This is the last two days of the online-upgrade for "qualifying machines". Those "purchased" between June 2, 2012 and Jan. 13, 2013.

Windows 8, whatever flavor, $15.

Gotta be running any version of Windows 7 (other than Starter)

Downloadable. Can make backup discs.

Putting aside aspects of fairness, nobility and honesty, if you just enter a date between the ones listed above, and enter eBay or something as the place of purchase, in all probability it'll be approved.

Microsoft really doesn't care all that much, otherwise this would actually have been fixed.

For all the grumpiness on Windows 8 the bottom line is that it is tons faster than Win 7. A lot of the arguing seems identical to when the first GUI's started kicking out; especially with Windows 95: "The command line? Where'd it go? So much better, icons get in the way of getting real work done"

If you aren't sure if you'll want 8 Professional... read this list of significant changes from 7

Client Hyper-V (So ability to run VMs built right in)

Much better battery life (by about 30%)

File History (similar to Apples time machine)

AppContainers sandboxed apps.

Slimline memory usage.

Windows Defender (True AV...basically now MSE)

Trusted boot (More secure)

Windows Store (Free apps)

SmartScreen (More secure than 7's version)

Storage Spaces (New Drive Extender replacement from WHS could make a good Home Server)

New ribbon for File management (can pause restart file transfers and has graph)

OS itself consumes less RAM and CPU cycles than Windows 7

Windows 8 is that it boots a lot faster than Windows 7

Many hackers have already gone on the record to say that Windows 8 is (and will be) very hard to break into.

Already optimized for SSD (http://forums.mydigi...o/...n?p=621681)

Yes, you've got an hour or two left.

You must enter a date between the ranges I listed above; if you enter May 2012 it will fail. No, they aren't going to check and see that you didn't buy it when you were supposed to.

Just enter something between September and December 2012 for the date. Whatever for make and model. Done. For an hour or two more at least...
