Flitterkill February 27, 2013 Share Flitterkill GC Board Member February 27, 2013 This is the last two days of the online-upgrade for "qualifying machines". Those "purchased" between June 2, 2012 and Jan. 13, 2013. Windows 8, whatever flavor, $15. Gotta be running any version of Windows 7 (other than Starter) Downloadable. Can make backup discs. Putting aside aspects of fairness, nobility and honesty, if you just enter a date between the ones listed above, and enter eBay or something as the place of purchase, in all probability it'll be approved. Microsoft really doesn't care all that much, otherwise this would actually have been fixed. For all the grumpiness on Windows 8 the bottom line is that it is tons faster than Win 7. A lot of the arguing seems identical to when the first GUI's started kicking out; especially with Windows 95: "The command line? Where'd it go? So much better, icons get in the way of getting real work done" If you aren't sure if you'll want 8 Professional... read this list of significant changes from 7 Client Hyper-V (So ability to run VMs built right in) Much better battery life (by about 30%) File History (similar to Apples time machine) AppContainers sandboxed apps. Slimline memory usage. ForceASLR and High Entropy ASLR (HEASLR) ..security (Takes advantage of Ivy Bridge' RNG) "Supervisor Mode Execution Prevention" (SMEP) support Eliminates access to win32k.sys (Eliminates many security flaws/exploits) Tickless kernel..lets processor sleep Reset and refresh your PC (instead of total re-install) ISO & VHD native mount (Supports Native boot VHD ... boot into OS from a VHD file works great creates a 40 GB harddrive by default for 8 rest is old system D:...dual-boot) Native PDF reader Enhanced Task Manager..see at a glance exactly which app is causing your hard drive to grind to a halt, Windows Defender (True AV...basically now MSE) Trusted boot (More secure) Windows Store (Free apps) SmartScreen (More secure than 7's version) Storage Spaces (New Drive Extender replacement from WHS could make a good Home Server) New ribbon for File management (can pause restart file transfers and has graph) OS itself consumes less RAM and CPU cycles than Windows 7 Windows 8 is that it boots a lot faster than Windows 7 Many hackers have already gone on the record to say that Windows 8 is (and will be) very hard to break into. Already optimized for SSD (http://forums.mydigi...o/...n?p=621681) Screenshots... Windows Key+Printscreen automatically save a PNG to Pictures Support for ReFS the new file system, newer better than NTFS System Wide Search. Better File Management. Better Device Management Better Dual Monitor support. Better Memory management Registry is more compact and faster Boot time: 9 sec cold > 5 seconds warm. Amazing Seamless Cloud Integration (SkyDrive is pretty awesome). USB 3.0 support. Full touch support (This OS is killer with touch displays) New picture login Built- in Enhanced version of Narrator...MUCH IMPROVED for those with disabilities... fun for rest of us ..and many more little improvements... its fast! https://windowsupgradeoffer.com/en-US PayPal or Credit Cards accepted. Yes, it's legit. Should still be up today, probably tomorrow, then gone. http://slickdeals.ne...Y-two-days-left

Flitterkill February 28, 2013 Author Share Flitterkill GC Board Member February 28, 2013 Last day. Haven't done the upgrades myself but our two primary notebooks and my main desktop have W8 purchased and downloaded. Just waiting for a block of time to do the upgrade work. walkingCat February 28, 2013 Share walkingCat Member February 28, 2013 I've purchased one for myself. Thank you, Mr. FlitterKill. Do you know a way to buy more copies? My friend needs it too and he wants to get it for his entire family, it's about 6 PC's.
Flitterkill February 28, 2013 Author Share Flitterkill GC Board Member February 28, 2013 If the PCs have Windows 7 they can do this (for a few more hours) - think the limit is 5 $15 per household/account/card whatever... Outside of that, sorry... I've got a media center PC on Vista and two other notebooks on Vista/XP. No go; at least for $15.

Flitterkill March 1, 2013 Author Share Flitterkill GC Board Member March 1, 2013 Yes, you've got an hour or two left. You must enter a date between the ranges I listed above; if you enter May 2012 it will fail. No, they aren't going to check and see that you didn't buy it when you were supposed to. Just enter something between September and December 2012 for the date. Whatever for make and model. Done. For an hour or two more at least...
