Lunk December 27, 2013 Share Lunk Member December 27, 2013 While I'm here asking questions today. What's a good AMD CPU & Motherboard these days? I haven't kept up with all the changes. What's a good Vid Card also?

LiMiT December 29, 2013 Share LiMiT Member December 29, 2013 I'm still looking at the MSI 990FXA-GD80 V2 with the FX 8350 processor for my next build. The FX 95** are good, but they run really hot so if you want to overclock then you'll need to liquid cool them. AMD are really pushing their APU processors and there is nothing on the road map on the next gen FX processors, but I think they just haven't announced anything yet. As for video cards I'm looking at the R9 280X, which are just rebranded 7970 Gigahertz editions. If you're not looking at running games at 4K then I would stick to a 270 or 280. S. Wolfsblood January 4, 2014 Share Wolfsblood Member January 4, 2014 I just bought this board http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131876 to go with this cpu http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819113285 for my new build. now, to be fair, I haven't built it, let alone run anything on it. I'm still buying parts for it. From my research, the AMD 6320 6 core proc was comparable to a mid range intel chip (i forget which one), but rated better necause of a lower price/higher overclock ability. I got the 8320 because it was on sale for $10 more than I was willing to pay for the 6320, so it was a no brainer.I also bought a liquid cooling kit to push it higher. Oh, it's an FX seriesm so the multi is unlocked giving you a better OC option. The motherboard is ASUS. I use ASUS in all my builds and have never been let down. Wolfsblood January 4, 2014 Share Wolfsblood Member January 4, 2014 FOr video cards, I'm going the nvidia route again. served me well for the last build. Nothing against radeon though. The 2 cards I'm trying to decide between are this one: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814125443 and this one: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814125466 price difference is about $70. It might come down to does either one of them go on sale when i'm ready to buy.
samurai nightling January 4, 2014 Share samurai nightling Member January 4, 2014 Yeah the price difference is comparable for the performance increase you'll have. Just see which one is on sale at some point if either of them are soon. If I go ahead with my new build I'll prolly be looking at the GTX 760 as well. LiMiT January 4, 2014 Share LiMiT Member January 4, 2014 True. I go AMD mainly for the price/performace. Nothing against Intel or Nvidia, but I'm.... frugal and the most bang I can get for the buck the better. By the time I get around to finishing my next build AMD will probably have the next socket out for probably not that much more than I'm going to be paying for this hardware. Asus is awesome, but I'm going to stick with MSI for this build due to the fantastic quality of my last MSI board. What else are you putting in your next build Wolf? S. ZeroDamage January 4, 2014 Share ZeroDamage Member January 4, 2014 Do you have a budget in mind Lunk? Are you looking for a complete rebuild or minimal upgrade? Either way, share what you currently have so we can better help you.
Wolfsblood January 8, 2014 Share Wolfsblood Member January 8, 2014 I'm going to try this, I saved it as a public wishlist, but this *should* be a direct link. http://secure.newegg.com/WishList/PublicWishDetail.aspx?WishListNumber=18160914 If that doesn't work, go to newegg.com and go to public wish lists and copy/paste this: amd computer build 2013/14Note, there are 2 incompatible viddy cards there because I'm not sure which one I'm going to be able to get. There is also a Corsair 120 GB ssd that isn't listed.
