(or if they wish to argue, more easily found than ATI.) These are the cards I'm looking at: Look at the price difference <or lack thereof> and recommend which is best... Gainward geforce 4 ti 4800se8x and 4200se8x Also, if you know of a comparable card around the same price, fire away! On another note, if I hook my vid card up to me 53" HD tv, does it have to be "Component" in, or will rca input still run HD? Lastly, I'm buying a couple strips of 333MhZ 512 DDR. I'm thinking of buying this one, not because it has a cool window, but because it has all the features I'm looking for with the exception of space for an additional fan in the back. It looks really good, the temp gauge works well, and is nice to have. The fan speed controller is high/low pushbutton (I think it is labeled Turbo). There isn't much room for expansion (The drive cages suck). If you plan on upgrading a lot in the future, this might not be the case for you because it is a pain to work inside. However, if you want a case that looks nice and you aren't going to be working inside it too much, this would probably be an excellent choice. Now, on the video card note, I would highly recommend the ATI (just wanted to get that out of the way). Whichever card you go with, I would shop the 4x00 purely on price, as they will all give you decent performance. However, I would also highly recommend waiting to buy a GeForce until the FX line comes out for retail sales. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Chief May 5, 2003 Share Chief Member May 5, 2003 RGB/composite/RCA jacks will only give you standard ntsc/pal resolution. Your card and TV should have S-video which adds 50% over the resolution. YPbPr/component/HDTV jacks will give you the HDTV three-color separation that you need to feed your tv the good stuff. Some HDTV's have a monitor input directly from your PC. That's your best bet, as no cards, to my knowledge, currently have HDTV out other than through the monitor plug. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Skywalker May 6, 2003 Author Share Skywalker Member May 6, 2003 (edited) well I'll put in my two cents....Kemo and I have had nothing but problems with this radeon 8500le....from having conflicts and it not running all kinds of games....too not having enough customizable stuff in the contol panel...and my newest fav. is that sometimes with my 8500 my computer just won't start up....it freezes on boot up and the only way to fix it, is to play with the cards seating...take it out put it back in...turn it off and connect and reconnect the monitor cable. I first thought it must be a prob with the agp slot....but nope... put in another card and I never have a problem....put the 8500 in a differnt computer with a diff monitor...and it has the same problem and freezes in the same place. On the other hand...kemo's new gf4 ti 200 runs awsome...it is some jackoff brand we've never heard of...it only has 54 megs of ram and it rips the 128meg 8500 to shreds. True the 9700 maybe very nice... but you have to sell your soul to buy one....not saying a ti 4600 is gonna be cheap either but i'd be happy with a 4800 or a 4200...espc. since I can find a cheep ti200 that runs at 8x (since i have an 8x apg slot hehe) DANG IT....I DIDN'T log sky out again....this is slaphappy Edited May 6, 2003 by Skywalker Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

I've was looking at some albatron Geforce4's There is a TI4600 128 ddr for 179 it's only 4x agp There is a TI4800 (according to newegg it's an OC 4400) with 128 and 8x agp for 175 so wich would be better? dwEEziL May 8, 2003 Share dwEEziL Member May 8, 2003 Hey, I am still an nVidia fan, I just ain't happy with the GF FX that they released and of the top-of-the-line (and just below) vid cards out there ATI is the clear winner. Now, you ain't going to go wrong with the nVidia GF4 TI 4600. That is just flat out a very nice card (if the "4800" is OC'ed to 4600 levels, I would probably go with that one) and you won't be disapointed for you money but also, you will not have the 1st, 2nd, or 3rd card on the market. Super Jo, not sure who you were talking to "where did you find it for that price?" I was mistaken about what I paid for mine. It was really $272 after sh&han and rooster and I got ours at www.ocsystem.com where it is still currently $275 dollars. P.S. NOFX May 8, 2003 Share NOFX Member May 8, 2003 oh yea, and i wouldnt suggest going with OCSystem. I ordered an Overclocked 9500 pro from there. They tried to rip me off big time. They took a regular 9500 and put a 9500 pro bios on it and moded it. There is a few websites that will show you how to do so. Well anyway I changed the drivers many times and the card was only gettin 35fps with Counter-Strike. I read later that moding a 9500 into a 9500 also has a 30% failure rate. dwEEziL May 8, 2003 Share dwEEziL Member May 8, 2003 1) nVidia released 2 4800s...one is the 4200 and the other is the 4400 and the thing that made them the 4800 is the 8x AGP (the 4400 with 8x AGP is the 4800 "Ultra" I believe). 2) The 9700 Pro I (and Rooster) got from OCSystems is exactly what I ordered.
