ADogX November 10, 2014 Share ADogX Member November 10, 2014 (edited) I am so low on a budget it isn't even funny. Being a college student is tough. I can't even find a job because they're all taken, AND I gotta focus on my schoolwork. However, at the very least, I want to start building one slowly. What do you guys recommend I get first, and move up from there? I think if i slowly work on it, i could get it. I'm set on a mouse, keyboard, and an adapter for a monitor or 2, but I want to know what i should start off by getting from there Edited November 10, 2014 by ADogX

Architect November 11, 2014 Share Architect Member November 11, 2014 Incorrect. I have a gaming PC that is over 5 years old. Granted I have upgraded the video card over time, but from a CPU and memory standpoint, it is the same. What you do is you slowly buy your machine piece by piece from newegg. Prioritize the first purchases to be the items that age the best. CPU, motherboard, memory, power supply, case and hard drive (SSD). Finally get the one thing that ages the fastest, the video card. It may take you over a year to put it together, but you can do it. When you are done, you should have a good machine that only needs a video card update once in a while. As soon as the machine is built, start saving right away for the next upgrade.
onyxdragoon November 11, 2014 Share onyxdragoon Member November 11, 2014 You still need a budget to buy anything. My computer is old itself minus the video card.
walkingCat November 11, 2014 Share walkingCat Member November 11, 2014 (edited) Something between $800-1000 will give you 2-3 years of good performance without an upgrade. The lower your budget the shorter life span of your future PC. Mother board must be upgradable since the beginning and CPU with an overclock option. the rest can be improved along the way. samurai nightling November 30, 2014 Share samurai nightling Member November 30, 2014 I spent about $1300 on my build, 7 years ago. I'm still using it, and I still get in the top end of frags in CS:GO most of the time. You can however get some decent stuff for arund $400-500 if you are willing to research a bit. Go the AMD route if thats the case, cheaper. Also don't look at your highest end graphics, look at maybe a couple models back. You dont "need" a SSD, thats just icing. I guess it depends on what you have currently whether or not you're really upgrading. I've been researching recently, and I could upgrade very nicely for around $600-700, giving i keep my monitor, mouse, keyboard, case, and PSU. Just do some heavy research for your budget.
