BIGSHaW March 13, 2004 Share BIGSHaW Member March 13, 2004 HI ALL! I have a problem with my CD-R, its SONY made 24x/10x/40x I was assured quality and I think I still have it under warranty...anyway.. The problem is that whenever I try to burn anything it gives me DISC SPEED ERROR It happend b4 with some CDs but I would just retry couple of times and it would work...I assumed it was cheap CDs that caused a problem....now it don't burn anything at all...I mean I tried high quality SONY CDs still nothing same ERROR One more thing, when I used cheap CD I could go up to 24x...with SONY's CDs Nero only allows me to go up to 12x ? PS: I use NERO6...also tried some other prog - nothing got burned I can post LOG from Nero if any1 can translate that mambo jumbo PS2: It reads and runs great otherwise...just having probs with burning. [Mmmm]Homer March 14, 2004 Share [Mmmm]Homer Member March 14, 2004 I'm RMA'g the Samsung CD-RW I got for my new setup, it was only able to make coasters. I should be getting my new Lite-On one Tuesday. Over 3 years I've ordered around 10 Lite-On CD-RWs for systems I've built and had zero coasters. auggybendoggy March 14, 2004 Share auggybendoggy Member March 14, 2004 hey shaw hows it going man? ok dude, from my experience NEVER buy sony or Pioneer. Some people swear by em and all Ive ever had is nothing but probs with sony. My Sony CDRW went dead a few years back. Now I tell people GET NEC and dont every worry. Lite one, benq, and the other companies arent so bad cause you don't pay out the nose. So buying a DVDRW benq for 79 and having it go dead is nothing like payint 300.00 for a dead sony. My advice get NEC if you get a big name. If you dont get NEC get a lite-on, benq or some small companies who are trying to make good products to compete with the big boys. Birdman March 14, 2004 Share Birdman Member March 14, 2004 (edited) Liteon and Plextor make the best CD-R/RW's. Samsung has has some good combo drives. As for DVD Burners Plextor, Pioneer, and Sony are the best. Edited March 14, 2004 by Birdman
[Mmmm]Homer March 14, 2004 Share [Mmmm]Homer Member March 14, 2004 I had read good things on the Samsung and went for it, but I'm going back to Lite-On because I consider them reliable and a good standard. I may have just gotten a bad Samsung unit.
Birdman March 14, 2004 Share Birdman Member March 14, 2004 Homer,Mar 14 2004, 12:47 AM] I had read good things on the Samsung... Me too. Couple of pals have the DVD Cd burner combo drives and they love um. So, yeah, you prolly just had a bad drive. Dont blame you for going to liteon though thats what my brother has and i love the speed of it. And it's burnt like 1 coaster in its life, which was prolly user error Out of about 50 cds or so. auggybendoggy March 17, 2004 Share auggybendoggy Member March 17, 2004 actually my take on samsung is REALLY high. I usually consider them or NEC. When it came to 19 lcd monitors only the samsung 191t beat the monitor I bought. I got a good deal on the 1920nx NEC but I do admit the 191T is a kickin monitor for 700.00 Aug
Mr.Mustard March 17, 2004 Share Mr.Mustard Member March 17, 2004 I've had a memorex for about 1.5 years now w/ no problem. I also had a TDK for about 3 years, but the burn capability went out after my son inserted pennies and I had to take the drive apart to get it to do anything.... I don't know how long it would have worked for, but I haven't had any trouble form my memorex thus far.
