  1. yeah, saw that a couple days ago, going to download it...once I get a friggin computer...
  2. As far as playing with ProTools, I'd use a desktop for that. It's not as mobile, but mixing multiple tracks really takes a toll on the processor. I wouldn't get less than an Athlon 64 or a higher end Pentium 4. The Pentium 4s seem to do better with the music compression, though the Macintosh G5 (best computer for that kind of stuff) uses a 64 bit processor, so a good Athlon 64 will work great as well. Also, you'll need a big hard drive, which laptops don't usually have. If you plan on keeping any of that music on the hard drive very long, I'd go with the desktop. Look into a Shuttle pc, they're small enough to carry around, especially if you've got a flat panel monitor, but they can be easily upgraded and they use desktop components, such as a Radeon 9800 Pro graphics card. If you're set on the laptop, you might try going for an Apple. A lot of the current games are available on Macs, and you'll still get that greater performance in the music mixing. Dammed expensive though. Apple Powerbook
  3. There are several versions of the Pentium 4, different cores, but the only processor Intel has other than the Celeron and Pentium 4 is the Xeon which is primarily for servers or workstations. As far as I know anyway.
  4. I have a Socket A "Athlon" 1 GHz processor. I'm assume it's 266 fsb or greater, it's not an Athlon XP, just a first gen Athlon, still works fine, last I checked. It ran everything up through UT2003 just fine with 512 mb of pc133 RAM and a GeForce 2. I'll send it tomorrow (Monday) if you want it. Glad to help.
  5. awsome job on the video! I posted a link to it over at www.teamamd.com (they're really active in the LAN scene), maybe we'll snag a few of them for next year, they're all great guys. Fatty, the inclusion of the FF'02 shirt was awsome. I still have that shirt, and I'll be wearing it at FF'05.
  6. oh, and try this one since you're still looking: http://www.gamrs.co/forums/in...showtopic=12197
  7. care to elaborate on the "horrid" part? what exactly is it that sucks so much? as I understand it, the team is doing a major overhaul, like completely redoing the story, setting, etc. and it sounds like it may actually be close to release. I think they decided there was too many fantasy mmorpgs so they're doing a different setting, space, I think...I'd have to read their forums again. in the mean time, tell us what sucked about Planeshift.
  8. we lost Nitemare to EQ. the first one, that is.
  9. 30-day free trial, $19.95 to activate after that. not bad, I think I'll give it a try.
  10. looks correct. usually your actual transfers are a bit slower than you're line's limit. 1500 kbps should have you download between 1 mb/s and 1.5 mb/s, though on particularly good connections you may get higher. http://www.2wire.com/?p=154&inc=bm500&5613 is a good place to check your speed.
  11. I tried doing it once, lost all my progress in a re-format. there's a program out there called WindowBlinds. You gotta pay for it, but it gives you a bunch of different Windows themes. Looked pretty cool, but again...gotta pay for it. There's a demo out though, with a few of the themes, search google for it.
  12. I've missed the last two , but I'll offer some ideas for next year, cuz dammit all, I'm going next year! Fatty, could you let us know what kind of venue you've "homed in on"? The big problems I see with a hotel conference room are what was mentioned before with power and accessibility but also with freedom to do things like volleyball, smoke and drink, sit outside at night and jam (I'm bringin a hand drum next year). organization of tournaments before is a good idea, we tried to do it this year, EXCEPT that it eliminates some of the freedom to just hang out that everyone loves. But, two organized games wouldn't really cut into anyone's chill time too much. I would certainly like to get a huge game of something like Battlefield going. as far as the smoking issue, lets create a non-smoking section next year so anyone who "CAN'T STAND" smoke will have the option of setting up away from the smokers and anyone who doesn't care. A simple large fan or two blowing the smoke away from the non-smoke section would probably suffice to keep their section smoke free without them being too cut off from the group. also, I think it would be fun to have sub-sections for each clan. Nothing separated, just clusters of seats for Mmmm, VI, DLM, etc, with banners for each guild hanging above their section. We could do a UT2004 team deathmatch with each guild having their own team and battling it out over a couple maps. lastly, this next year, how about we leave the age at 18+, and have NO talk beforehand about drinking. It's happened every year, each year the event goes smoothly, so lets not even waste forum space with it this year.
  13. might put those 1 month servers to use hosting a demo or two for upcoming games. the Painkiller multiplayer demo is out. or throw up a free game like Enemy Territory. just some ideas.
  14. nobody was surprised by Kurtz? he and bob lee surprised me the most that first year...oh, and mini too. mini's got that mobster look, specially in his pic from the mmmmcs.com members page, or when you drive up to a run down auction house and he's outside grilling brats. I swear, I'm going next year and damn anyone who tries to stop me!
  15. Exile had a great site there with "gamerevolution". Never been there before now, thanks for posting it Exile. The whole point of this thread was to discover some new sites.
  16. happy birthday Greybeard. I remember old_man, think he was in Th3 F4ll3n last I checked.

    PayPal

got it, read most of it...didn't really understand it. PayPal says they did nothing wrong, however they settled out of court, and there is now a fund with 9+ billion dollars that is to be paid out to anyone who was wronged by PayPal. There are a couple categories and depending on which category you fall into, you're entitled to some money if you feel you have been wronged. Stupid American's trying to get a handout.
  18. glad to hear that our business model of world domin- er, of offering great servers, is being well received. Mk5, welcome to the forums, and if you ever decide you do need some CS time, we've got a great CS server as well, so hop on anytime.
  19. Take a look at this. Outpost No screenshots up on the site yet, a few small images though to give a little bit of an idea of what it's like. Looks like it could be pretty sweet. I'll let you read what the site has to say: Download(131mb) This is the open beta client. F.A.Q. This one could be pretty fun.
  20. I got your free MMORPG right here. Planeshift It's an open beta...been that way for 4 years. They are completely re-vamping the game right now, and it sounds like they may actually be close to releasing a proper beta. doesn't look too bad, either... edit: oh, the term "beta" is kind of deceiving in this particular instance. the developers promise that the game will be free, so if it's ever "done" it will still be just like it is now, download and play. I tried it awhile back, didn't do much, basically loaded it and walked around for a few minutes...or tried too. way too much vid lag on my GeForce2, so I gave up.
  21. Just had an idea today. I wondered what web sites out there you all have on your "Favorites" list. What are the sites you visit at least once each week to get your particular brand of news (be it gaming, political, hardware, etc) or what forums do you haunt? Share with us the sites you deam worthy of your time, for whatever reason. I'll start. gamerscoalition.com teamamd.com newegg.com (still tryin to buy a computer ) planetunreal.com gamespy.com planethalflife.com betawatcher.com suprnova.org (gah! just visited suprnova.com...bad bad place, hafta pay for stuff...no ".org" is the place to be.) Haven't been to that last one in awhile, since I don't have a computer to download anything onto, but the rest of the list is current. How 'bout all of you?
  22. yes, you 9600XT can use both AA and AF just fine, though in newer games such as Farcry and BF:Vietnam, it won't be able to run as well as a better card. I would put on about 4x and 2x, maybe a little higher. experiment, it's in your ATI control panel.

    IRC

I'm a bit of an IRC noob. Only used it to download progra- er...I don't know how to use IRC...
  24. well yes, you would hope that the newer game would have better graphics. still think the mod is worth a look.
