  1. Hey Mookie Thank you so much for all the info!!! At the moment, the LAN party is on Saturday and I've setup a TF2 and HL2:DM server on the laptop. Im having issues though with TF2 and getting it to connect to the steam cloud. (Want unlocks if I can get internet access) I've set sv_lan = 0 but it seems to be unable to access the steam cloud. (Yes I have internet atm) There is prob.a 5% chance I'll have internet access. but if I can get my laptop to connect and just that. I would be happy. That means the server can at least connect to the Steam cloud. Any help would be awesome! Thanks again. Quick note: When I log into steam on my laptop. then start up the server. I have access. All is well. But that means I have to play on my laptop (which I wont) I get an error when I start up the server without Steam open. Saying the steamclient.dll is not setup to run on Windows . I can get u the exact if u need it. Another note: I might have messed up something with the directories when I installed HL2:DM. I think Im going to delete it all and redownload today. And put them in separate folders. (Was hoping that I could save HDD space, but idc atm)
  2. How did she propose?? :-D Details! Congrats!!!! (Getting married in June, engagement is friggin stressful)
  3. says u! it's so much more fun when you have friends playing. i hate the rage quitters, kids join a lobby, see they have to wait 15 seconds for 3 more ppl , then leave.
  4. I play it! It's weird. You can pick from local server (you run it), dedicated, and official servers. Dedicated and Official you don't get to pick exactly what server you all join. It picks it for u. But if you are apart of a Group, and that group has servers, you can join then specifically. Not exactly sure how it all works.
  5. http://tinyurl.com/yklq8pm Along the lines of the stuttering one. I like having a background theme. Changes the pictures every 30 minutes. Def. take a look at the gagdets. I have mostly monitoring type ones. CPUs, RAM, HDD, Network traffic, weather. Maybe setup a thread on the gadgets we use? Make sure you have indexing setup. I <3 the new search bar on the start menu. You just start typing w/e you are looking for and it will search the index for it. Emails, Applications, Files. Text within files, etc. You control where it searched by controlling what gets indexed.
  6. Thanks lousiest! Mookie, thanks for all the info! i'm gonna have to sit down with it all this weekend. I might build my old old box and just put an apache server on it. About the laptop, I will take everything into consideration!
  7. Wow thanks! Before I break down your post to further help me explain, i will check out that tool and make sure everything is good with the machine I'll be running it on. Could I run this on a Win7 Laptop? Dual-core 2.4ghz, 4gb ram, 200gb 7200rpm hdd? I will have to see about the CAL server.cfg because they might want a css tourney. def. not a tf2 one, although they are very exciting to watch. So having the maps on a web server somewhere is a whole lot faster than getting the maps from the server directly because it compresses them and of course that's cycles taken away from map loading, etc.?? (just to clarify) The LAN party isn't going to have internet connection (school policy, bleh) So I will have to think about a local web server. Or maybe online and that would be something they need to get prior to coming.. And have it on thumb drives if ppl don't.
  8. Is the server updated? It's JC and Shazzzzzz taken care of it? or Mookie? <3 TF2!
  9. Hello everyone! It's been awhile since I've trolled these parts! How is everyone doing? I'm alright, very busy with school and work. Although I still find time to game, I am apart of PSU Lehman campus IT club and we are settings up a LAN party. Since you guys are veterans at doing such things, do you have any checklists or anywhere I can go to find out information on setting up a dedicated servers for a LAN party? Specifically CSS and TF2, but we will be playing L4D2, but local games are easy to setup for that. I'm curious if I need another steam account to run the dedicated servers? Can I run both on the same box? There will prob. be no more than 25-30 ppl at the lan who will be gaming on PCs. I can setup the network, power cables, tables, etc. Hope you guys can help me out! Zesty
  10. I know. but is that an upgrade key or a full key? Meaning can I just download an ISO from elsewhere and use that key to install it with OR Do I have to already have vista installed on the pc, and then run thru the upgrading phases?
  11. Note: This isn't a simple download the ISO and here is your key. from m$. You get your key in the email, then you have to download a bunch of large files onto the computer your plan on "upgrading" to windows 7. You cannot upgrade from 32-bit to 64-bit. My friend tried this and the installer will not work for him. Frustrating, but hope to save some other ppl some time. I wonder if he could download the ISO from somewhere else and use the key?
  12. Dell has Left 4 Dead 2 for $30 if anyone is still interested in getting it! Dell Home - L4D2 $30 I got it and have been playing. I have to say, it's much better than l4d, and impossible to play on the harder difficulties when you have bots.
  13. We are totally unappreciated! Laz can go to his stupid EVGA forums from now one!
  14. How'd that program workout for you? Those files are virtual hard disks for restore points. Of course, most software installations will create one before it installs. So you can gather up a decent amount of restore points quickly. Option 1: (read both b4 trying) They are probably hidden directories/files. Know how to view hidden files under the Folder Options? If you can view the files, but cannot delete/modify them, You don't have access rights, as the currently logged on user. Option 2: Another way to possible delete the files (not manually) would be in the Disk Cleanup Utility. Not exactly sure in Win7 (not at home), but in Vista, there is a 2nd tab called More Options Towards the bottom is an area called System Restore and Shadow Copies. Click the Clean up button and that will delete all but your most current restore point. Complete your normal Disk Cleanup process and hope that cleans them up for you.
  15. I just picked up a G1. loving finding all the apps. I have two orig. xboxes that are modded with XBMC. wonder if I can set that up with these. Have any good apps that are musts?
  16. http://windirstat.info/ download/install/run this app. if you don't want to install it, and just use this portable version, does the same thing, but can run on usb drives. http://portableapps.com/apps/utilities/windirstat_portable It's a GUI for what files you have on your drives. Each file type is a different color. The larger the file, the larger the block is. Click it for info on the file and location. GL!
  17. I took advantage of this! Also, don't forget, if you need Office 2007 Pro. .edu can get it @ www.theultimatesteal.com
  18. Thanks guys! I thought about the i5, but i'm pleased with my old AMD, so I wanted to say my "thanks" to them! That's an awesome rig! and 8gb is cool. Got anything that is going to use that much? I barely hit 2.5gb. But I dont do photo editing or video encoding.
  19. I'm trying to delete one thing and add in another. Primarily links. When I attempt to just delete the link, I just get the first line of text error. Thanks!
  20. Hey guys, long time no talk! First off, how is everyone? Secondly, I recently researched and finally built a new PC. My old one is about 6 years old. Here are the Specs: CPU: AMD Phenom II X3 2.8ghz MOBO: MSI 770-C45 AM3 Socket PSU: OCZ 500W RAM: GSKILL 4GB DDR3 1600MHZ Video Card: VisionTek ATI 3870 (Was my brother's old one) HDD: 2x 750gb Player: Sony CD/DVD-RW Tower: Cooler Master Elite 300 mid tower CPU Cooler: Corsair C50 Water cooler OS: Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit (legit) I was on a price budget and found some good deals, and my bro helping me out kept the price around <500. I have yet to find stable OC'ing settings, but the mobo offers a lot of them! Which is confusing actually. So far, I've managed 2.8 --> 3.2, but I've read people have gotten it up to 3.9ghz. So I'm shooting for that. The water cooler's radiator mounts on the back via 120mm fan mounting holes, but the top of the radiator hit the bottom of the PSU, so I had to drill 4 new holes that were lower(pic). Here are some links to pics: http://dl.getdropbox.com/u/80132/IMG00550.jpg http://dl.getdropbox.com/u/80132/IMG00551.jpg http://dl.getdropbox.com/u/80132/IMG00552.jpg http://dl.getdropbox.com/u/80132/IMG00553.jpg http://dl.getdropbox.com/u/80132/IMG00554.jpg http://dl.getdropbox.com/u/80132/IMG00555.jpg http://dl.getdropbox.com/u/80132/IMG00556.jpg I finally can play Crysis (which I bought about a year ago). I'm still playing TF2, done with CSS. I'm waiting for Natural Selection 2 to come out. (Part of the alpha/beta testing!) I miss going to the LAN parties, but life doesn't allot for it right now. Mainly because I'm full time school and work atm. To get my fix, I have started my own in between semesters. Good talking with you guys/gals!
