  1. From Steam: Many Colleges, Universities, Schools and Large Corporations are now actively blocking ports to prevent virus, trojan and Internet worm problems as well as to prevent misuse of their networks. If you are having problems and you are on one of these complex networks that are intentionally blocking ports required for Steam to work then you may not be able to connect to Steam and play.
  2. That guy in that pic who is next in line looks absolutely terrified.
  3. That's another option. In fact, the majority use a Mac. But then again, I don't think ZD wants to throw his PC out and get a Mac.
  4. Windows XP is a musicians nightmare. Basically, what happens by default in XP is that it uses ACPI mode to operate its peripherals. ACPI is a power management protocol that allows windows to control the various pieces of your computer. For example, power down the hard drive when idle, your cd rom, you monitor..etc. The manner it does this is what causes many people to experience "lags" in their computing experience when their system is under load. Hardware devices require something called "interupts". To manage these "interupts", they are assigned IRQ slots. What ACPI does is assign a whole bunch of devices to the same IRQ slot. What happens then is that when two devices...such as video and audio are used extensively at once, one of them gives in to the other. This will result in either tearing in video or popping/cracking in sound. You can switch the mode from ACPI mode to "Standard PC" mode to solve this. Musicians who use a computer have been doing this for a couple of years since 2000 was released and it has been great. Now...is this whats causing your problems? Probably. Is it definite? I don't know. So...take my advice with a grain of salt.
  5. hitbox problem was acknowledged by steam/valve. Apparently a patch in a few weeks. It's basically the same as very bad interp.
  6. I always found it odd that when you descope, it shoots like yur...um...jimmy....after um.......a late night.
  7. Oh my! Those mandibles of doom and despair! I can't take it! Make them stop!!!
  8. Where are these cricket sounds in nuke? Is it outside? I honestly have never heard them or at least noticed they were there. But I do understand the aztec comment. It can get loud.
  9. But the x700 and 6600's will retail for anywhere between 150-200 bucks. From the benchmarks i've seen, they look great. Blows away 9800 pros. Here are the PCI-X prices now. http://www.newegg.com/app/searchProductRes...00&InnerCata=48 And lastly, we have plenty of tech heads in here. But I'm not a tech head. I've never ever needed to get the best cpu, ram, vid card, etc. I have a set price range I follow and it has worked for a decade. I upgrade once every 2-3 years and I've always played what I wanted to play. Here are my rules: - Never spend more than $200 for a vid card - Never spend less than $125 for a vid card - Never spend more than $200 on a cpu - Never get the highest performance ram. They are double the cost and ram type changes every 6-12 months - Always have double the minimum requirements for RAM. It's worked for me. Maybe it will work for you. I guess it depends on your priorities.
  10. Yeah, I can hear most things. I think its also more realistic to have some footsteps muffled when its RAINING. If we wanted plain shooters, we can play Doom 1.
  11. I had accidentally allowed the domain name to expire. It was commandeered by an ferocious group of hippy hoochies. I had to offer them that we'd continue to defend them against harm so they gave it back to me. Now that it is settled, DOH will be around until at least 09/2005.
  12. Is this a one time deal or something you want to keep doing? For one time deals, use cool edit. It can be downloaded and used to record and save for up to 40 minutes at a time. It uses disc management very well so it doesn't chew up your system in the process like software like SoundForge would. If this is a recurring thing, then let me know. You have options varying from paying $20 to $400 or skipping that and coming to the "dark" side. If its the latter, pm me.
  13. Buy Source, see if you think it runs acceptably, then decide if you want to upgrade. Going from a 9500 will cost you $300+ unless they come out with the 6600GT/x700XT sometime soon. In any event, I would wait until the final AGP pricing comes available for the 6600GT and the x700XT/Pros before upgrading.
  14. I actually agree with fatty. I used to use stopsound on occasion but not nearly as what you guys seem to think it was used for. I primarily used it when the door in cs_office got jammed or for the radio in cs_italy
  15. What version of the client are you using. Also, CS:S and nforce2 boards have some problems. Maybe that has something to do with it?
  16. It should run ok. Here's my system: AMD Athlon 2600XP+ 512MB RAM DDR333 Nvidia Geforce3 Ti-500 <---I think your card is better. Most of my settings are on "medium" and it runs ok.
  17. I was right!!! No offense intended of course. I shall always follow the rules of your server/forums.
  18. Yep, u can say donkey on our server. =) <---I have a feeling that word will come out as "donkey" here.
  19. I'm not sure if anyone can save those SWG addicts, except divine intervention.
  20. Most of us have a blast while on TeamSpeak and playing. I haven't had this much fun playing CS in a looong time. Get on TS and you'll see a bunch of us on during primetime.
  21. DOH decided to get a server and we're proud to announce to call it Delta. Visit us sometime. [DOH] Delta Reborn - CS:Source 24/7 66.150.107.71:27015 It is a 16 man server to keep the costs down but also to return to our small game roots. Hope to see some of you there.
  22. Well, given that I have 20/20 vision, I shouldn't really say anything on the subject but...here's something to consider: Right now, Lasik procedures thins your corneas. Some of my friends who wanted to get Lasik cannot because they were born with thin corneas. Apparently there is a large percentage of ppl with thin corneas. Then take the fact that it is a temporary solution since it only last so many years. So say 5 years from now, they come up with a procedure that is permanent but requires a moderately thick cornea. Those who got lasik may not be able to get this permanent procedure. I dunno. Maybe i'm just talkin out of my butt here. hehe.
  23. I would recommend against it. The person who said it lasts 5-7 years is right. And its not something you can keep doing. Basically they take small layers off of your cornea and after a while, it gets too thin and they can no longer do the procedure. There are some people from certain backgrounds that half thin corneas and they can't get the procedure at all. I'd wait for the next thing.
