For anyone that's interested, the ESWC LAN event (a huge euro LAN) is going on this week. Alot of the best clans in the world will be playing, and the demos are going to be up on GotFrag.com. Not sure if you all saw this yet, but it looks like a pretty cool map to add to the rotation. Razor hasn't made that mouse in quite a while now, but it was the best mouse out there. They ran into financing problems and have been trying to get back off the ground for ever and a day now. The 1k was the more reliable of the two mice. Amazingly precise.

What killer said. My biggest grief with the Func tho is it's size. I use a low sensi so I tend to move around alot on the mousepad, the Func is just too small for it. That link is dead. I don't know what happened to it, but it was a great guide... and I didn't save it SASDKJ:ASKJDA:LKSJD. I'll look around some more for a replacement, but I haven't seen anything else that really does it for me. The major problem with the MX500 is the mouse accel doesn't turn off in WinXP even when you select "off" in the driver settings. There's a reg hack to disable it, but I cannot find it for the life of me now. I'll keep looking--sry.

Logitech MX500 (OPTICAL) > * -- You just have to tweak the drivers for it to get it to work just right. Tweak guide here: http://www.clanwat.com/modules.php?op=modl...order=0&thold=0 Also because of the specific way that hte MX500 works, alot of mouse pads won't work well with them, especially hard surface pads. The Func (which is too small imo) works so-so, the Ratzpad is great, and the Steelpad is sporadic. Get yourself a large cloth pad and you'll be much better off with this mouse. The Intelli-mice opticals are great mice as well, but the MX series by Logitech are just plain better. The resolution is higher and it doesn't skip on the right mousepad--ever. If you got smaller hands, I recommend the MX300. Sidenote: The best ball mouse ever invented was the Razer Boomslang 1k and 2k. Those mice were absolutely amazing. Unfortunately, they were expensive as heck, and they had some huge quality control problems in their later generation mice.

Yeh, I know, but most firewall admins don't explicitly block UDP<1024. They should, but they don't. Largely because there's all kinds of wacky stuff that comes in on those ports... like say... DNS. If 80 doesn't work for you, try 53... but don't expect to resolve any DNS addy's while yer doing it... LOL.

It's probably explicitly blocked, but: 27015 is default server port. 27005 is default client port. Ergo, you need to be able to connect to 27015 (which may be blocked outbound from your firewall) and your firewall needs to allow inbound 27005 into your PC. It's also a stateful inspection/triggering issue, IE some firewalls/firewall rulesets, will not allow traffic back into the protected network from a port that the request didn't originate on. IE ICQ direct connects, IRC and some other stuff. You can change the default client port in HL by editing your counterstrike config.cfg with the following line: clientport 27005 Substitute something like 30000 for the 27005. Valid port ranges are from 1 - 65535. However, 1-1024 are typically reserved for "well-known" protocols, IE webpage requests usually happen on port 80, ftp on 20 & 21, dns on 53, smtp on 25, etc. Using these ports is a really bad idea since it's likely to fubar you. On the other hand, you could use 80 and see if you can get on it. Just about every firewall will allow port 80 inbound since it's web page traffic. Now that I've helped you ruin your education, don't forget to do your homework.

Wow. Thanks for the responses folks (Contra, I'd snuggle you back, but Leo would !ban me for life ;/ ). Definately was fun. I ditched the CS community a long time ago (well, ok, beta 1.3) because it was just a bunch of immature retards (the cleanest word I can think of Fatty =b ). It was nice to pop into the MCC pubs and: a) not get kicked within 30sec for "hacking"; play with people that were mature enough to try to win, WHILE having fun (ie real teamwork on a pub). Thanks again for making me welcome, and all the fun. I forgot to say Thank you! in particular to Sanders and the MwR crew for dragging me (kickn and screaming) back into League play. J/k fellahs. Mad fun. Tape/Cane/DOH etal--I was really looking forward to playing DOH last night, but work cropped up with an emergency at the last minute and I got stuck downtown in a data center. It was particularly agonizing because I had a DS3 all to myself, and no puter to play on ;/ (Ok, I'll step down off the stage now... man that felt like an Emmy speech ;0 )

I like Fatty's idea =b Sounds like something that would be mad fun to watch. Any chance you'll have HLTV open to everyone in the community to watch? One other suggestion, might go faster if you have all the players in the server and have them go spectator mode so they can watch it there. Makes rotating in when it's your turn a lil quicker. Kinda like dodgeball! Anyone else still have bruises from rockets thrown by the kid whose mom fed him raw beef and hormone treatments to make sure he was 6'4" by the time he was 12yo?

Simple question... Are you sure you keyboard isn't busted? I've burned out about 5 different keyboards playing CS (there's only so much mashing SPACEBAR to jump that any keyboard can take). Check your keyboard cable and make sure you haven't crimped it badly (ie rolled your chair over it a 1000 times like I have) :/ Only suggest it because I've done it.

I understand the anti-camper mentality, but the mod is, quite frankly, rediculous. If I stand still for 3 seconds to type something, I get slapped. If I'm crouching and moving, I get slapped. If I'm shooting at someone from a good awp spot (still moving around and I miss more than one awp shot) I get slapped. If it worked as advertised, I probably wouldn't mind it so much, but it doesn't. And even if it did, it makes camping a dropped bomb or other legitimate "camper" tactics moot. It also causes lag. I used to get zero choke and zero lag on Gossimer. I now average about 30choke. And that new plugin is the only thing that's changed (as far as I know).

NR Refresh doesn't work on _some_ win2k/xp machines. If you're still having that problem, even after you toggle all the refresh rates on the advanced tab for the Nvidia drivers, I strongly suggest you download Powerstrip: http://www.entechtaiwan.com/ps.htm It's a bit tricky to use, but it genuinely works. And if you get tired of it, a simple uninstall gets rid of all proggie traces (I hate software that leaves footprints).

What Cane said is right. How to do it, and whether or not hud_fastswitch 1/0 works. They took the "real" hud_fastswitch" out in 1.4/1.5. It _does_ take longer now. Smacking your weapon inv keys is faster than hitting lastinv. It's also more reliable. (Pulling your knife or grenade out in a desperate "I NEED MY PISTOLA NOW" scenario is never a good thing). If you use arrows (freaks, the lot of you), add binds for your weapon inv keys to keys closer at hand (ie: insert, home, delete, end, pgup, pgdwn). The idea is you don't want to have to look down at your keyboard for anything non-crucial.

Trillian is a great proggie. It allows exactly the same functionality as mIRC with the notable exception of PMs. If you're in PMs with someone and they (or you) change their name, Trillian loses the thread of the conversation and opens a new PM on the next message. Kind of annoying, but no biggie. It's also somewhat intensive in terms of cpu cycles and graphics display, so it's generally a good idea to close it before you play CS.
