I've been looking into building a media center pc too. And I found this if you were planning on running Linux on it. XBMC Media Center It looks pretty nice and its free too. It will work with windows and mac too..

Thanks fx ill try that when I get home later. The case was through some hell, back and forth in the car, and on its side then the other side.. lol The video card is on board. She wants to do photo editting on it... Its 1.4 P4 Single Core, 256 megs of RAM and 32MB on board video.. I don't think she will be doing anything to crazy. probably just getting rid of red eye on paint.net lol

Hey Guys I'm working on a computer for my mothers friend, she bought it cheap at a local university, they were getting rid of some older PC's. She wanted me to check it over and see if I could upgrade it. So I plugged it in booted it up. It booted fine. I looked to see what kind of stuff was on it. Then right clicked on My Computer to look at the properties. After that I walked out of the room, and a minute later all i could hear is a beeping noise. I looked in the room and the monitor was blank. And the computer was just beeping... So I hit the reset button. All the lights came on then it just went back to beeping. The beep is one long beep about 10 seconds. And it just keeps doing it??? Any idea what the hell could of happened from the time I turned it on to maybe 5 minutes later? I'm thinking it might be the RAM or Video. But I don't even get an image on the screen to figure out what kind of bios it has to figured out the beep codes for that BIOS. UGHHH Any Suggestions?? That would be awesome. She is picking up the enclosure this week. I'm hoping it will work out! Also hopefully without having to reformat the drive...

Hey Guys, Im working on a Western Digital external HDD for a friend. Its one of those GO drives I think? Well what happened was her daughters kept wiggling the USB plug in the back of the HDD and broke all the leads off on the USB jack. I tried to solder them, but they broke off right up to the connector. Then I had the idea of robbing an old USB jack off an old printer. But why do that when I can just buy an enclosure for like 15-20 bucks??? My question is does Western Digital put crap on their hard drive that wont let me use any other enclosure?

I'm no guru either, but is there anyway you can get it into safemode by pressing F8? and trying to run a virus scan while your in safemode. I've never heard of that file before... I just did a search for it on google, and it just showed a bunch of crap... I'd give safemode a try!

I'm not sure if this is right or not, but I dont think the P35 chipsets support the new 2.0 PCI Express x16 slots? I don't know if you have a new video card or not. But I thought I heard that from somewhere?

It could also be a program that Asus has bundled with their motherboard. Its called aacenter.exe I read about it today when i was doing some research. I had a P5Q motherboard and just dumped it for a foxconn. I still had some of the asus stuff on my computer. I read that the aacenter.exe will chew up resources. To disable it goto your task scheduler and you can disable it.

Hey Guys I have another problem with my new build..Last night my girlfriend was checking her e-mail and such and I wasn't in the room. So she decided she was going to shut down the comp. On vista it has that icon on the start menu that lets you think your shutting it down, but really only putting it into standby. She has never used vista before so she thought she was shutting it down. Then she comes to me and says the lights on the computer are blinking and the screen went blank and it wont do anything. I tried to get it to come back up by hitting keys on the keyboard and moving the mouse...But no luck because I never set up the hibernation or standby on the computer..So I had to hold the power button to shut it down then restart it. When I turned the comp back on, it had cleared out everything in my BIOS...( Now I'm starting to get mad) lol. Lost all my OC settings and everything else.. So i put the basics in just to get it going. Then I decided ill shut it down for the night and goto bed and deal with it tomorrow. When I shut down the computer, it shut off i turned away from it. Then 5 seconds later it turned right back on??? Anyone ever incounter this probem? I'm not sure if its with the BIOS or PSU. The power supply voltages seem ok except the 12v seems a little high its 12.265 is that normal? Help Please =/ My Specs are: E8400 3.0 Stock as of now =( Asus P5Q Motherboard Visiontek ATI 4870 4 Gig OCZ Ram WD 250GIG HDD OCZ 600W PSU Vista 32bit Home Premium

Hey Cujo thanks for the help. I'm running orthos right now and it jumped up to 3005mhz. Is it possible to shut all those "auto" things off in the bios?

I don't have anything on the computer yet that grabs enough cpu usage Ha.. Ill download orthos or Prime95 and throw it on there quick. just to see if it jumps up.

Ya I updated the the bios and still no luck. Ill give that a shot with opening a program. Is it worth it to turn the speedstepper off? Or should I just leave it go. It must be Something to conserve power thats config'd in the bios?

Hey guys I just got finished putting everything together on my build. However things don't look quite right to me. It could just be me though not sure. I ran CPU-Z and things look a little funny. Here are the specs on my comp. Intel E8400 3.0 GHZ Not Overclocked ASUS P5Q MB 4 Gig OCZ Ram DDR2 1066mhz ATI HD4870 The only thing that I did change was the Ram. The voltages were too low and the timing wasnt quite right because the MB set it to default. Its was set to 800 I changed it to 1066 Timing was 5-5-5-15 I made it 5-5-5-18 Voltage was 1.80 I changed it to 2.1v By the looks of CPU-Z its making it look like my processor is underclocked and on the one tab its showing my RAM as DDR3. I know for a fact its not DDR3, my board doesnt even support it. Heres some shots of it. I hope someone can help =/

thanks mookie I was thinkin about gettin the antec 900...But I know almost everyone gets this case. I'd like to try to get something a little different at least. But I kind of wanted a bottom mounted PSU because the 24 pin plug is in a weird spot its towards the bottom of my board. Anyone have any suggestions? Thanks

Hey Guys, I finally started buying things for my new build. So far I bought ATI 4870, Intel e8400, Asus P5Q Mobo. and GSkill DDR 4gig of ram. Im getting ready to buy the rest next friday including the case. Only concern I have is if this video card is going to fit in the case? Have any of you guys picked up the 4870 yet? I would like to go with a mid tower. But I have to a full tower is fine. I'm lookin to spend between 100-120 for a case...Any suggestions? Thanks!

Is he looking to game on the laptop? Because that integrated video might give him some trouble. It did on mine. When I try to load up CSS of TF2 it just crashes... If he's not looking to game on it. That looks like a fairly good deal to me. I got my girlfriends laptop 2 years ago now I think from bestbuy for 400 bucks. But all she uses it for is school, e-mail and to watch movies. It's a Compaq. It's an older model came with XP. But they have a newer model out now that sometimes goes on sale for like 450 or 500 i think?

That game looks pretty sweet. Seems like overkill with tons and tons of zombies . But hey whatever floats their boat
