If I understand your problem correctly, I have a simple fix I found on the Steam forums. Go to your Steam icon and right click and choose games. (The icon when steam is up and running.) Right click on counter-strike->properties. Choose launch options. Under launch options, type one of these: -gl -d3d or -soft. -gl changes the video to Open_GL, d3d changes it to Direct 3D, and -soft changes it to software. (You should just need to do the above; thats all I needed to fix mine. Now you owe me a 6-pack of beer; perferrably an import cause it took me like 20 minutes to find the stupid page. LOL ppl ask the same questions over and over on that forum and dont bother looking for answers.) I did the same thing you did, with the same results, trying to get my fps up. Since steam has so many bugs though, these may or may not fix your error. Error - 1: Timing out on Validating Resources. Details: When loading a game up such as Valves Counter-Strike, it stops when it hits Validating resources. You wait for a while, and then you suddenly hit THIS ERROR: Error: Connection Timed-out to server. Dazed, and confused, you try time after time again, but get the same error, and no connection. Fix: Change cl_timeout to something higher, like 99999. Do this in your config.cfg file or in the console. If this does not work, disable or unplug your firewall. If none of the above works, flood STEAM with thousands of messages portaining to this error. Eventually you'll crash their 56k connection, or they'll be forced to reply. Error - 2: All of your buttons and text appear as a variable called #steam_root (However you may only see the #steam_roo because of the size and length of your buttons and what not). Details: There is an error in steams programming somewhere, its not clientside I believe. It instead displays the variable instead of what the variable portains to. Fix: 1.Update to the latest version of steam. 2. Delete the clientregistry.blob . 3. Flood steam with hatemail and this error. Error - 3: Steam taking a long time or not loading at all. Details: You attempt to start steam, but it only shows the background of it, takes a long time, or doesn't try to load at all. It appears in the ctrl+alt+del window though. Another fix for this though is to delete the clientregistry.blob. And for the last and latest fix, spam STEAM with hatemail and this error. Error - 4: You finally connect to Steam and go into one of the games or use the built in servers feature. You attempt to update, and it takes a bit. You notice nothings popped up, where as thousands of server should have. You get the message "Nothing passes your filter settings". So, you get rid of your filters, and you try again, but you get the SAME error. Details: I have experienced this error myself. I have found that this error originates from your masterservers.vdf file. Fix: Delete the masterservers.vdf file from your STEAM/config folder. This will do no harm. Go back into Steam, cross your fingers and hope you wont hit some other error steam doesnt want to fix. Then go to servers. Hit refresh games and your list SHOULD appear! If it does not, spam Steam with hatemail and this error. Error - 5: After setting your video settings, it blue screens. Every time after that, it blue screens when connecting to a server. Details: This probably does portain to an error in your video settings. Fix: Right click on the game you want to play in steams game window. Then, under launch options, type one of these: -gl -d3d or -soft. -gl changes the video to Open_GL, d3d changes it to Direct 3D, and -soft changes it to software. If it does not work, maybe its your resolution you set. if it is, type -w (pixels) and/or -h (pixels) . -w sets width while -h sets height. -win sets it to windowed mode, while -full sets it to full mode.

Don't know if this has anything to do with it, but make sure you have the latest driver for your sound card.

LOL why don't you just include the burst fire select script or the Firerate Cycling Script along with the fast weapon, that switches to secondary after u shoot too....Might as well load up that .cfg file! I don't mean this meanly, but common sense should dictate that something like that isn't acceptable. You should remember the big dicsussion over the fast switch that Fatty brought up and the 150 or whatever responses that that discussion generated. And that's something that is LEGAL in CAL. Anything u have to add to a config to make u play better or that gives you an advantage over someone else because its a script, isn't legal.

Great ideas?! I don't count copying what Puppy said and regurgitating it back with a few little added comments a great idea; you call that plagiarism. (Puppy get with me later, we're talking lawsuit.) I do agree with your comment about the map choices though. I laugh everytime I see choices like: 1. Aztec 2. Leet_skeet_awp (or whatever its called) 3. Aztec 4. Extend current I saw that choice today and I have seen others that are similiar. I don't know how the server or you guys set-up the maps/rotation choices, but it would be nice to see a little variety. Please ban Zaphr | Rage SteamID 0:0:3607 and Uber Nub | Rage SteamID 0:0:827750 They were repeatedly swearing (droppping the F bomb) on voice and being immature in general. Asked them politely to stop and Uber told me to "Suck his ...." over voice chat and then proceeded to swear more! They were also repeatedly tk'ing for 2 consecutive maps. The server was full and it emptied both times they joined and started tk'ing. (They left and came back 2 maps later and started tk'ing again repeatedly on purpose.) I could be wrong here, but I thought Ballistic Shields stopped small arm fire (i.e. handgun, shotgun) and some rifles. I mean a 7.62 NATO round will go thru a car door and come out the other side. Granted, it's not solid metal like the shield, but the shiled is only what 3 inches thick and since we're 'professional' t's and ct's we would be using the full metal jackets, which should tear up the shield after X number of rounds. Also, it should be a heck of a lot heavier then the awp, (the heaviest thing you can carry, because it's well, a large sheet of steel which weighs about 22+ lbs because its a full size shield. So slung across your back or in your little mitts, it should be more cumbersome then it is currently.

No Steam is free and it will remain free. In the future, they will be charging for other games like CS:CZ (Condition Zero) through the Steam client. (If you look in the Steam folder you will see a credit_card....I forget if it's a .jpg or what; but, it's a picture of a credit card.) So they will charge for other games down the road.

I use it for the same reasons that San stated. If I miss my first awp shot, and I want to move or look to see if there are more bad guys coming, I still like to protect myself cause I have engaged an enemy already - he knows I'm there and vice versa. So my choices at this point are to: 1) switch to my knife, so I can move; 2) cycle thru my scoping (e.g. double scope, then click again to scope off) and then pull out my handgun - which leaves me vulnerable/at a disadvantage, because presumably I'm already engaged in a fire fight. I agree with the statements that if your hitting one key to do all this, it is configing, and is a lame cheat. If I want to fire a couple deagle shots off after awping, and I fast switch to my deagle by pressing one key, my crosshairs are natually going to be where I left them on the screen. If I decide to go back to my awp, I need to push a key for my primary gun and re-target/re-aim thru my scope (also by pressing another button.) I will agree with your statement Fatty about the fact that it's bs that it reloads in your pocket or when it's put away. But there have been times when I switch from my deagle and then go back to my awp that I've had to reload my awp; I see the animation of my guy ejecting the spent round and reloading/using the bolt for a new round/cocking it, whatever you want to say. Now, I dont know if thats a timed thing - that I switched back and forth too fast or what the circumstances surrounding it are; but, it does happen to me, albeit, not all of the time.

The only problem I'm having is with fps. I have a gforce3 with 256 meg ram, and all the recent updates and drivers. Ive tried a few things to get the fps up, but I still only seem to get around 60-70 fps, cept when I'm dead, I get 99-100. I dont get any choke, so I'm not sure what else to do. I've tried the tips and tricks that have been posted here (on this forum), so my next step is to hit up steam and a couple of other sites/forums to see if I missed something. Like I said I don't lag, and I get 0 choke 99.9 % of the time, so I don't know what the deal is. (And yes, I have anti-flitering off, vsync off, etc.) If anyone has any other suggestions please let me know. THx

Homer I emphathize with you. It would work for me, then not, then it would, finally got connected, and then I lagged so bad I couldn't move; (had to adjust my video card settings to stop the lag.) All I can say is, like General J posted earlier on a related steam isssue - keep the install handy. I've re-installed, ummm something like 20 times I think...Yeah bout that, cause I've had every error message you see on the forums (here and steam) atleast 4 times. Doesnt matter if I played 15 minutes ago - could not conect blah blah blah...so I just reinstall everytime to the same place after I can't connect. Seems to work after that.

You can also use spec_menu 0 to fix the problem of not being able to do anything when your dead. Slap, you install steam in C:\program flies\steam. It will make a bunch of folders and files, this is now where cs, half-life, etc, lives. Follow C:\Program Files\Steam\SteamApps\YOUR EMAIL ADDRESS@.com\counter-strike\cstrike. This is where you find the config.cfg. Create a file called userconfig.cfg (I think I had to make it, it wasnt there.) Copy all of your stuff from your autoexe.cfg into your userconfig.cfg. Then open config.cfg and make sure the last line of that file says 'exec userconfig.cfg' (without the quotes) and BOOM! your done. Now you hit the cstrike.exe in your cstrike folder and your on your way.....

It's been touch and go...works, doesn't, works doesn't, etc. The only thing that seems to work for me is that I noticed it made a Steam__66604__2003_9_15T20_26_42C382940.mdmp or similar file when I failed to connect. Each time I deleted the file, rebooted my pc and it works. Three different times it's worked now. Sometimes it asks me to re-dl (install) the files even though I have them. Sometimes I have to say yes like 3 times then it will go. Takes a while to load...hope this helps... In the Steam folder C:\Steam
