  1. I believe (and hope) the Mmmm commmmunity will be around for a long time. http://www.lagcs.com
  2. I am offended by profanity because I was conditioned to be. But I must say I don’t really understand why it is offensive. I don’t understand why one word describing an object or an act should be more offensive than any other word. I can sit around and talk about fecal matter all day. It may be unpleasant, but when I start using one-syllable words it suddenly becomes offensive. I do find “curse words to be overused, trite, and unimaginative and they reflect somewhat on the user. Beyond that they’re just words. I think the offending part is something else. To use FatB’s example of someone cursing at your mother, you don’t object to it because you don’t think your mother can’t handle it. You’re not angry because you think this is the first time she’s hearing these words. She’s not going to burst into tears and her head will not explode. But you do have a problem with the lack of respect and the hostility being shown. That’s what you react to. If we had no spoken language we would read body language to detect these things (you can do this anyway but its more of a learned skill than an instinct in humans). Curse words are a red flag for these this (this is learned too). This is where ignorance comes in. If you are ignorant of this fact you may curse left and right and not meaning anything by it. But people are going to be offended because they automatically infer a lack of respect whether its there or not. New words are already becoming offensive. Ever hear of “Political Correctness. I cannot call the race of men Christopher Columbus found when he came here what he called them. I cannot use the British term for cigarette unless I am from there. I cannot use the expressions different races have adopted for themselves unless I am one of them. And there is at least one word that I cannot use to describe happiness. Languages evolve. You cannot deny it anymore than you can stop it. New words and new meanings for current words are added to the dictionary each year. Curse words are in unabridged dictionaries.
  3. I like the stripped down Statsme. I just like to know the guy who killed me has 8 HP and 0 AP left.
  4. Does that mean I got lower standards?
  5. Best thing to do is start out in London. It’s a little smother transition. I flew in to Gatwick both times. Also fly Virgin, business class if at all possible. The first time I went I flew coach. It was not a pleasant experience. Business class was pretty comfy. My favorite place, by far was Spain. It had the best food and weather and its absolutely beautiful. Its definitely not a 1st world country so if you’re looking for 5-start hotels and fine dining it may not be for you. But if you like the outdoors its something else. If you can get there, my favorite place was Mallorca, Spain. It’s one of the Balearic Islands in the Mediterranean. It’s the most beautiful place I’ve ever been. I liked even more than Hawaii. http://www.sitesatlas.com/Places/spaBalearicIs.htm
  6. Had French food in France, Spanish food in Spain, German food in Germany, and English food in England. That authentic enough for ya? The closest I’ve had to authentic Mexican was in Victoria, Texas. I want to go to Japan some day and taste real wasabi. Ooh! I’ve has a cheese-steak on South St. in Philly. That count?
  7. All my friends look exactly like me. Whats that mean?

  10. I believe they’re accepting volunteers.
  11. #3. I believe you are referring to “print-through. Basically, it’s the transfer of magnetically recorded material from one layer of tape to another as a result of it being wound together on a reel. Magnetic tape is iron-oxide particles (kinda like rust, not FeO but Fe2O3) on a backing. Recordings are made by running a signal through an electromagnet, which polarizes the particles as the tape passes. The particles then have their own charge (much smaller), which can be transferred (at low levels) to another part of the tape as it goes back onto the reel. When a tape is stored “heads out (rewound) the tape lays together in a way that causes the first second or so of the recorded material to be transferred at a low level to what should be the silent leader. This causes a soft “pre-echo before the start of the real recording. Storing a tape tails-out (not rewound) eliminates the pre-echo but leaves a post-echo. A post-echo is usually less of a problem. And the act of rewinding a stored tape before it is played actually reduces the level of print-through significantly. I imagine for data, it would cause what ever is reading it to think the data has started before it actually has. I’m thinking error. Seems like storing data tapes tails-out is a good idea. As for the rest of this computer stuff, I don’t think I can help you. It gives me a headache. Is this for school? I believe this falls in YerMoth3r’s field of expertise. Ooh! I know the answer to 4,C. Streaming audio should never be allowed because it increases the lag and ping of CS and UT players. I know from experience. I used to play on a corporate network. Boy was it sweeet! Except when that @*% (Alias knows who I’m talking about) would stream audio from the net. Hope that helps!
