  1. finally something is cheaper in canada. i just bought the samsung today for a client and only paid $239. woot!
  2. i don't recall moving a raid 0 but i've definitely moved a raid 0+1 with no rebuild necessary. any ports on the same controller should be fine. if you switch to the si controller you'd be out of luck but as long as you stay on the nv controller you'll be fine. contrary to what zd says i don't believe that the raid controller cares what specific ports you're plugged in to.
  3. i woulda gone antec 900. my buddy just got one and he says it's awesome. i've always liked them at fragfest.
  4. you'll be happy with anything asus. probably the most bang for your buck laptops. dell and hp don't even come close when you compare features set of similarly priced laptops.
  5. sadly, that's the area ati isn't so great at. the best you'll get is a two year warranty i believe and no step up. either way these cards are worth less than 100 bucks after two years so really you'd just get a new one anyway. i'd go with sapphire or asus though honestly they're mostly just re-badged ati referrence cards anyway. maybe find one with a nice after market cooler pre-installed. come to think of it, asus mobos have 3 year warranties so maybe they do the gfx cards the same way. i've got a p5q deluxe. 0 issues thus far. not sure what the difference in the pro is.
  6. just grap the oem disc off a torrent. it's all over the place. i'd go with an sp3 slipstreamed version.
  7. ya but why would you want to? unless you're gonna oc, leave it turned on and help the environment some. don't worry, your cpu will be there when you need it.
  8. his bios is detecting the cpu just fine. it's running at 2ghz cause you have speedstep turned on. leave that program open and start up something which requires cpu. you'll see it go up to it's proper speed. as for the ram showing ddr3. my p45 board does the same thing. same with how yours says pc2 6400 on that other tab. mine is the same there too.
  9. just get vista. no raid drivers needed. even if you do you can put them on a usb key.
  10. lol, when you said pentium you had me goin too. the important thing is the "core" architecture which provides the performance increase.
  11. i bet you vista 64 would install and run with no bsod's on your system. better yet if i installed it without you knowing and then fired up a game you'd never notice the difference.
  12. lol. hardly begging. i just want to know what all the fuss is about.
  13. that's just ms breaking xp so people will think vista is better, which it is. with that system there is really no need to avoid vista unless you have some outdated game or hardware you're worried about. make sure you go 64bit right off the bat so you can take advantage of that ram. edit - just to take the above a step further. i'm finally at the point where i can change drivers, add hardware, etc. with confidence in vista not to crash or bluescreen on next boot. performance wise there are still some quirks and the windows explorer view changing randomly is annoying but the advantages really outweigh these issues.
  14. unclean, that happens on crts as well though. my eyes have always been really sensitive to things like that. when i used a crt anything below 100hz would hurt my eyes. i can not use 85hz for a prolonged period of time. don't get my started on 60 or 75hz. with the ghosting i definitely noticed at first but my eyes quickly adjusted i can't point it out anymore. actually, i don't think my eyes adjusted at all. my brain adjusted. i knew it was normal so i learned to ignore it i suppose. for the record, i no longer recommend viewsonic. dell and samsung are the two i have had good experiences with. mostly dell. i really wish preacher would come to ff so i could see his hanns g cause i want to know why this thing is so good. i also wish he'd come to ff so he could see why my dell is so good. one thing i noticed walking around ff is how crappy some people's viewing angles were. i would walk around and look over shoulders and not be able to see properly just at walking height. i'm not even that tall at 5'10". where as with my dell there really isn't an angle you can view it with where the colours go weird. except those angles where you'd never actually view it from anyway.
  15. my monitor is rated at 12ms and i definitely noticed it at first when switching from the crt. i gave it a chance though and within a few days i no longer notice it.
  16. i'm assuming you've tried a known working monitor at this point to ensure it's not some other component that is failing ie. the vid card.
  17. with a 22" monitor you should be just fine running up the details and aa.
  18. also, you can partition the 500gb so that only say 100gb is boot and the other 400gb is storage. that makes starting fresh on windows much easier if you get a virus or something.
  19. someone had to tell me that you had to drag programs to the trash to uninstall them. i spent 20 minutes trying to figure out how to uninstall before i finally gave up and called a friend. that trash can has got to be the worst method of doing things on any computer i've ever seen. only on planet apple would "trash" ever mean "eject my cd from the drive".
  20. still don't believe me? http://www.hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1329792 one comment points out that all those laptops have either the g84 or g86 in them.
  21. check for popped caps on the mobo/any kind of burnt hardware smell in the case. if there are no visible issues then try resetting the cmos by either using the jumper or popping the battery for a minute. if that still doesn't work then try a different power supply. i think you guys are jumping the gun with the whole power surge thing.
  22. it sucks but for under $200 it's a steal. otherwise i'd take a 4870 over the 260 any day.
