  1. Well, finally got it. I installed the new VIA drivers & the control panel and it did the same thing on OpenGL. I then switched from 800x600 to 640x480 and went in the game...got a pretty solid 70fps (not bad from my previous 30). Exited, switched all my settings to Max Quality and behold...800x600 started working just fine...70fps. I think something must have been funky and the 640x480 kicked it cause I'd tried the Max Quality before...I think.

    Do they love you?

I didn't find that terribly funny... This is funny...skit by Chris Rock on how not to get your butt beat by the police. clicky==>Chris Rock
  3. I did uninstall the old drivers & all the ATI software. I was back to the old basic VGA drivers before powering down to slap this card in. Hopefully it's more the VIA, Control Panel and I'll check the DirectX drivers as well.
  4. Ok, I see the control panel software you speak of. I'll get that tonight also and see if it helps. Thanks
  5. It runs...just not correctly. Sometimes it only uses 3/4 of the screen and when it goes full screen it's like 3/4 of the screen is right and the rest is there but all the text is cut off to the 3/4 of the screen...bizarre. I'll get the via drivers tonight and see what happens. I guess I should also try 640x480 resolution but ick...LOL
  6. Ok...got the 9500 but now CS won't run right in OpenGL...dang...DirectX stinks:) It appears to chop the screen and then fill in the right and bottom so all the text is messed. Got the latest drivers for the card but need to get the newest 4in1 drivers to see if that helps. I'm going to get the new mobo and chip next year so this has to last for now.
  7. Good points...right now I'm using an ATI All-In-Wonder 128...not a bad card but...
  8. Ok, I think I've decided that buying a new video card is my first step to building my new puter...since I can use that in my current one. So, what is the best video card to get considering it will be used in a P3 600 right now and eventually a p4 3.9. I'd like to keep this under $400. It's probably between the GeForce 4 Ti4600 and the ATI 9700 Pro...opinions...suggestions? Thanks
  9. They did but a huge one was 19" and get this...you had to get up to change the channel & volume!!! Course there wasn't much sence in changing channels cause there were only 4 of them.
  10. I'd drop the support down to 1 year. Unless your a total computer newb you will never use the support anyway. Then I'd also go with a 128mb video card unless the price goes way out on ya. Of course while I was on the Dell site I priced out the system I want with the new 3.06 P4 chip and hit $2500...guess I'll be waiting a bit on that puter.
  11. You can't get 2x the machine for the same cost...I've not seen many places where you can build your own for less than you can get a Dell etc. Example(using www.5oclock.com). 15" Flat Panel Monitor - $299 Intel P4 1.8Ghz - $159 256MB DDR-RAM - $87 48x CDROM - $28.50 (52x) 40x/10x/40x CD Rewriteable - $59 (48x24x48) 10/100 Network Interface Card - (On MB) 56k Modem - Why bother:) 40GB Hard Disk - $89.50 (wd, 7200rpm) Sound Card (on MB) Motherboard - $94.50 (audio & NIC) Case - $75 ATI 9700 pro 128 - $358 Office XP - $99 ======= $1,348.50 Dell price = $1,129 and that includes other software, a bigger HD, 1 year support, speakers, keyboard, mouse and some software. So, it depends on the individual which is better. I have no idea what MB is in the Dell. The RAM runs at 333 instead of 400. The HD might be a 5200rpm seagate (I only use WD). Overall, it's not a bad machine for the money. Just too many unknowns for me. If I was buying a machine for my parents...dude, they are getting a Dell.
  12. Yes, build your own PC...you will probably spend the same but get better components. Example. Priced out a Dell with the same specs for a pc I built. About the same price but instead of PC800 RAM and a 40 gig hd I got an 80gig with 1066 ram. So, no money savings but much better system. The place you make out in the pre-built is software. Building your own you can't touch the price breaks they get. Some local shops now sell OS' cheap when you buy parts. When I built mine I got XP Home for $99 and Office XP for $199. Not terrible but it was cheaper at Dell.
  13. Can't play but if you need a team to scrim against I'm sure CsLs would love to be beaten up.
  14. You should practice your school work as much as you want to practice CS. When I was 7 I wasn't allowed to play CS.
  15. Gosh, it would be nice if you would move to Canada but I hate to think of those poor guys having to deal with you. Iraq has proven they are a hostile country. Giving them these type of weapons is only asking for trouble. Maybe I'm getting old but I'm so freaking tired of people saying we are so bad. So, we don't want these little countries killing themselves...gosh, we are so EVIL for that. We don't want agressive countries having nuclear weapons...shame on us. I'm far from a war mongler but I'm behind what the US is doing right now.
  16. I also read once that adding " -nojoy -noipx" will free up some memory cause you don't need IPX & Joystick drivers...assuming you don't play with a joystick.
  17. That would depend on how paranoid you are about your government:)
  18. Well, to get back to the original question: Isn't it true that god considers children to be innocent of all sin because they are not (this might sound wrong) capable of being responsible for their actions? If this is so, than a person who was severely mentaly handicapped would be considered a child in mind and spirit and thus be an innocent for their whole life. On the rest of the topic: Religion is great. Has lots of wonderful values that the world needs. I think the existence of god is a personal belief. I think anyone who would argue the values of religion as being wrong will end up in jail or friendless one day...maybe both. As far as people asking these questions in an attempt to discredit religion and your beliefs...think of it as a way for you to further solidify your belief. Once you answer the questions/challenges, you can be that much stronger. Besides, it gives you something to talk about that you appear to love.
  19. Can you further define midwest area?
  20. You would think they could at least spell it right
  21. I can give you pointers at tinkleing people off if you really want to become a pro.
  22. So I get an IM from my wife: "Mmmm...beer cheese and pretzles. The lunch of champions" Now, by simply adding a comma to the sentence the meaning is much better... "Mmmm...beer, cheese and pretzles. The lunch of champions" See what I mean? note: I am in no way saying that beer cheese is not yummy
  23. I vote yes to young children but mostly due to the lack of parenting by quite a few parents. Of course there is also a difference between a game of tunes smacking each other with hammers and a game of people making bloody messes out of each others heads with guns. I think society makes people violent...movies, TV shows, video games, music.
