  1. I've found that WINE leaves a lot to be desired with regards to playing games, but it's coming along. There's also emulation for most (maybe all now, but I don't think so) of .Net 2.0 code...That's huge! I haven't tried it myself, so I don't know how it works, but I'm sure ZD can fill in the blanks. As far as screenshots go, I prefer SnagIt so I can grab what I need and annotate it, but that's because I often don't want a whole screen and I usually have to explain to other people what I'm capturing. Is there a program for Linux that allows you to grab certain portions of the screen? IF so, does it let you annotate it?
  2. Oh, sheesh, macros? Man, you've come to the right place. How many programmable keys are on the left? Type faster? No. Headshot better? Gosh, I hope not (though I did know a guy who was pretty good at moving and aiming solely with the keyboard...when Quake was starting to get popular). Keep tabs on vital stats better? No...wait, yes. Very much so. Keybinds? Yes. And that can be more useful out of game than in game, depending on what else you do with your computer. Though if you're cheap, sure, I still use a PS/2 clicky keyboard. But I don't pretend it's as neat as a G15. Drink the Kool-Aid, you know you want to...
  3. Yes, it is. Read the EULA and take note that the code is being altered for the MAC OS to run on the PC. Not Legal. In fact, if I recall from an article I read (possibly in the WSJ, but I can't recall where at this point) it involves circumventing an encrypted file, which not only makes it illegal but quite clearly violates the DMCA. You terrorist. But even if it weren't illegal, it's not a supported configuration and it's against the spirit of the sale. Who do I go to for support? If I'm going to spend $130 on an OS, I want someone to hold accountable. Otherwise, there are plenty of free options out there which may not be as pretty/slick, but are free. I don't mean to come down hard on ya, Playaa, I'd personally like to try out a Mac myself for awhile, but this is definitely out of the scope of things I want to get in to. As to the other things being illegal? I'm no lawyer, and it seems copyright law is one of the most strongly contended areas of law currently. Even if I were a lawyer, I don't think I'd be out commenting on what is and isn't legal. It seems that what is illegal is what a court of law decides is illegal.
  4. Then you've lost me. If I wanted things to be hard, I'd run Solaris. I don't call myself an expert in anything, and I do know how to use Google. The key phrase I used involved whether or not it was in the license agreement. I think it's clear from the fact that you linked to a site with "warez" in the URL that it's NOT condoned. Sorry, not an acceptable option. GLHF. I have no problem with Mac OS X. I think it looks pretty. But if we're talking about cost and whatnot, I'm surprised nobody's mentioned the Mac Mini (or perhaps I skim too quickly). That seems to me to be an excellent value proposition: Get yourself into a new computer, which is a pretty decent machine, and you don't have the whole "monitor + machine = all trash next upgrade" thing that some people get stuck on (my monitor is ten years old and still going, and I still use an old PS/2 clicky keyboard). Very affordable. Looks like a mutant block of albino tofu, but that's alright, my cases usually make me look like Dr. Frankenstein. lol! Post pics!
  5. If not a PS/2 clicky keyboard, then a G15. They're shweet. Pricey, though, but shweet.
  6. At the same time? Does that happen often?
  7. Sure could, but you'd get more energy out of a radioactive source from a properly-built Nuclear power plant. Of course, these batteries sound like they use a radioisotope that our current plants aren't tuned for, and certain things just can't remain plugged in: Houses in remote areas and electric cars come to mind. Plus, you could just stick your light fixtures to walls instead of having to run wires. If you really wanted to. Amazing, indeed.
  8. This is a well done series, but it's Ken Burns, so of course it is. I particularly like his choice of Tom Hanks for reading the articles from the Rock County Star Herald. It's too pricey for my blood to purchase outright, but I've been watching them on the DVR, and the footage is, at times, simply amazing.
  9. You've obviously never heard the term "It's eating out the back of my eyes!!!!" Well, I will say this...I've never uttered the phrase...
  10. "Tall people are more aesthetically pleasing. Admit it. We all think that way. Short people are inferior and as such we should pursue a genocide program." "But wait! If you were to start cloning, short people would cost less to clone -- less material cost. It may not be much, but over a few million people that adds up. Let's start a genocide program, but kill the TALL people." "Hey, what about reaching things on tall shelves..."
  11. Oh really? Where can I go pick up a copy of OS X for my Intel-based desktop? How much does that license cost? Last time I checked, Apple won't sell you OS X and it's against the licensing agreement to use it on a non-Apple machine. This is misleading at best to say this is a non-issue. I'd really like a legit copy of OS X to run on the machine I already have, so if that's changed let me know.
  12. It's just that kids tend to do really stupid things when they think they are protected. At the end of the day they aren't the only ones on the slopes. In my experience, they tend to do stupid things anyway, but yeah, you're right. Amen to that. I'll just go invest in a good helmet and wear it everywhere...
  13. Dude, Halo is soooo last-gen. Let's play some Halo 3.
  14. lol Chris Angle...Mathemagician! Like Donald Duck?
  15. Maybe I'm old-fashioned, but I'd rather break an appendage than break my head. Of course, I don't snowboard, so just take that as the ramblings of an old fart.
  16. Sorry I haven't gotten back to you, been really busy at work. I talked it over with the Woman, and she reminded me that I don't play games on the computer I have now, and before I go spending money on a new machine I should get online more with the machine I do have. Sorry, Unclean, the timing's just bad for me right now. Great deal, though, I hope you find it a good home.
  17. What's your motivation for gaining mass and getting stronger? You're going to have to keep working to maintain, and though you won't have to work as hard, you may lose your gains if you don't keep it up long enough to get your body to shift, and there's only so much you can change your natural body situation. Do you just want to be bigger, or is there another brass ring you're chasing? The only reason I ask is because motivation will be your biggest foe, as you will need a reason to keep going for years if you want to maintain. Good work so far, and just like others have said, compare yourself to your past self. Different people have different body structures, metabolisms, etc., so it's not fair to yourself in many cases to compare against others.
  18. I'll let you know my status by Monday morning, hopefully earlier. Didn't have a chance to talk with the better 15/16ths yet. Crazy work schedules and such. I hope to know something today and if I'm lucky get to my computer again, but that's not likely until Sunday.
  19. I don't swim it lakes, but if I did...I'd take my chances. I get in an automobile every day, and according to the NHTSA, a person died (on average) every 13 minutes in 1996 in an automobile-related crash (There were 41,907 deaths that year): http://www.nhtsa.dot.gov/people/outreach/s.../optraffic.html The rate's probably a little higher for brain-eating amoeba, because I'll bet a smaller population swim in at-risk ponds, but still, I can't imagine it's a whole lot higher.
  20. If this is honestly that important that it is in consideration for the most important thing you will ever do...Seriously...Blow the wad. People spend more than this on things like weddings, houses, children...you get the drift. Irresponsible? Sure. Crazy? Probably. But if it's seriously that important to you, you may end up kicking yourself in the rear for a long time if you don't take the opportunity.
  21. Oooh, sexy. I'll be mulling this one over at work today, unless someone jumps in and grabs this excellent deal.
  22. When you tag a choice with "best <anything>in the world", you kind of force our hands here...I mean, it's really a choice between The Best Of This Category or something that's okay, I guess.
  23. If your friend isn't marketing to a subset of Internet users, he (or she) may want to clean up the images. They look unprofessional (the word bubbles, for instance) and it is already apparent from his caption that people think he's misspelled his dialog. These are potential customers who think he doesn't proofread his work. Will they be confident he can do other parts of his job, such as security, more rigorously? Clearly, it was not a mistake (it's a meme reference) and even though language ability should not be directly tied to technical expertise, many people don't see it that way. That's alienating potential customers. Of course, if his target market is only people who get the meme, then he's spot on.
