You could probably sell your x800 pro for around 400 and spend a bit for for that GIGABYTE x800 pro Vivo. Comes with 16 pipes and the HSF covers the GDD3 modules as well where the reference design doesn't. It is the best buy for the x800 pro out there.

not worth the effort, im more then happy with the performance level im at right now. There isn't a game out that i don't play in 1600x1200.

 

my cards memory doesn't get hot, only warm while gaming. It has a 120mm fan blowing directly over the card, 2 80mm fans exhausting that air.

 

everything vital in my case is active cooled. ie; cpu,ram,mobo,agp,sound,psu,hdd's. only thing not getting alot of fresh air is the cd-rom.

GDDR3 doesn't really need active or even passive cooling but having it on there means there is potential for higher clocks if desired.

Yeah, that's at current clocks though.

 

As Nvidia and ATi push the frequency (MHz) up in future card releases they will prolly have to go back to solutions like they had on the 5950 and 9800XT.

 

Hopefully they crank it up for their fall refresh of video cards.

 

Although it seems the spring release for video cards has turned into waiting till the end of summer for availability.

Oh no, not lucky. I read about it and ordered one because of it. I never buy a new vid card right away. I waited until I had money and for some good news about moddable cards. I do not mess with hard mods, like those fools that are scraping the pcb and putting on paint to connect the laser cut. Just plain stupid. Or the people that are actually using a pencil mod to up the voltage. Too dangerous for me. Too costly of a possible mistake.

I am playing at 2xaa with temporal right now. Looks much better. Still around 60 fps most of the time with occasional dips with lots of monsters.
