mongoloido April 6, 2005 Share mongoloido Member April 6, 2005 This last update has really messed things up for me. I was playing HL2 and CSS without a hitch yesterday. Today is a different story. Now, when I try to play HL2, I get this The instruction at "XXXXXXXXXXXX" referenced memory at "XXXXXXXXXXXX". The memory could not be "read". So I tried CSS to see how that ran. I played a map and a half just fine, then got disconnected when the third map started to load. I couldn't condump or screenshot the error for some reason, but was able to copy/paste. Here's what I got: Counter-Strike: Source Map: de_aztec Players: 24 / 31 Build 2340 Server Number 19 Begin loading faces (loads materials) End loading faces (loads materials) Couldn't load vertex shader Water_vs20 Couldn't load pixel shader Water_ps20 Couldn't load pixel shader Water_ps20 Couldn't load vertex shader WaterCheap_vs20 Couldn't load pixel shader WaterCheap_ps20 Couldn't load pixel shader lightmappedgeneric_ps20 Couldn't load vertex shader lightmappedgeneric_flashlight_vs20 Couldn't load pixel shader flashlight_ps20 Couldn't load pixel shader lightmappedgeneric_ps20 Couldn't load vertex shader lightmappedgeneric_flashlight_vs20 Couldn't load pixel shader flashlight_ps20 Bad CRC for materials\sprites\white.vmt Bad CRC for materials\vgui\white.vmt Bad CRC for materials\effects\flashbang.vmt Bad CRC for materials\effects\flashbang_white.vmt Bad CRC for materials\particle\particle_smokegrenade1.vmt Bad CRC for materials\sprites\scope_arc.vmt Bad CRC for scripts\dsp_presets.txt Server is enforcing consistency for this file: scripts\dsp_presets.txt Host_Error: Server is enforcing file consistency for scripts\dsp_presets.txt ] condump Unable to condump to condump000.txt Any ideas what this is about? mongoloido April 6, 2005 Author Share mongoloido Member April 6, 2005 Good gravy, I hope not. I'd at least like to be avoiding those 5 deaths in a row streaks of mine if I have a case of teh h4x... Apparently that first problem was an outdated driver. I fixed that baby up okay for now. That CSS thing though is weird. I'm gonna try removing that file from the game folder and seeing what happens. Wolfsblood April 9, 2005 Share Wolfsblood Member April 9, 2005 Mongo, I had the same issue, but only when playing HL2. I was actually able to fix it with help from Steamsupport. *looks through email for details* To correct this please click the link below: steam://validate/220 Then rename the following folder: c:/program files/valve/steam/steamapps/USERNAME/Half-Life 2 to c:/program files/valve/steam/steamapps/USERNAME/~Half-Life 2 Then restart the game, this should correct the issue. ***note, this will eliminate saved games, you will need to move them from the ~Half-Life 2/bin/SAVE directory into the new Half-Life 2 folder when completed*** you will end up with 2 \Half-Life 2 folders (one with the tilde in from ot it.) Copy your save games folder from the \~half-life 2 folder to the other one (you might have to move some cs:s stuff too maps, skins, etc, I dunno) and you should (hopefully) be back in business. NOFX April 9, 2005 Share NOFX Member April 9, 2005 I would have uninstalled and reinstalled before I posted anything
*BiGBonES** April 10, 2005 Share *BiGBonES** Member April 10, 2005 Uninstall and reinstall is an easy solution but with so many updates out now the updating process takes longer and longer to complete, so sometimes posting on the forums is a quicker way to fix the problem.
