ZesteR April 27, 2005 Share ZesteR Member April 27, 2005 Hey guys, I am looking for some specs that I must need to know when purchasing a laptop. As of now, my needs are just function not performance. I have my PC for gaming etc. I want my Laptop for schooling and recreation and of that sort. I would like usb ports, dvd player. maybe an output to hook it up to my tv to watch the DVDs. Also, ethernet is needed and 56K modem maybe for traveling purposes. I will be using it at work, school, and just home away from my PC. I need to know wat to look for and if there are any GREAT buys out there... I do not wish to spend a lot of $ and older versions will suffice.... Nothing fancy or amazing.... but if it comes with a good price. then I'll take it Thanks, Zest
Vijorn April 27, 2005 Share Vijorn Member April 27, 2005 I dunno I am not sure they are all that spendy if you get the gen models, but if you go with gateway (their service rules I spilt gin and tonic on my laptop and with a warenty that I bought, no questions asked they replaced it) with centrino architecture you cant go wrong... I recommend checking out what gateway has to offer for mobile soloutions, and I recomend splurging for the gig of ram for it, I did and it made one hell of a diffrence. mine is 1.7 ghz centrino based 1 gig ddr radeon mobile 9600 dvd burner (why I needed that I dont know) 17in screen mine flys through games could prob tear up CSS if I wanted http://gateway.com/products/gconfig/prodhm...twym360&clv=Img This isn't too bad at all but I dont know what kind of budget you are on... Hope my 2 cents helped...
Acid-Flux April 28, 2005 Share Acid-Flux Member April 28, 2005 I bought this one for my father a few months ago. http://www2.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp...N82E16834149013 it's pretty pimp I must say. Not a gaming laptop, but it's definatly decent. they also offer a 12.1" screen which is like $200 less
ZesteR April 28, 2005 Author Share ZesteR Member April 28, 2005 Oo Thanks guys... I dunno if im willing to spend that much on a laptop. It just needs to do dvd, and office tools, and have usb ports to maybe burn a cd from a external.. or for a better mouse.. But I would like a nice size screen, decent ram 512MB. but wats a good speed for cpu without being really good but not too slow??

TeK May 7, 2005 Share TeK Member May 7, 2005 (edited) I just bought a laptop recently from Dell. I wanted a smaller machine so I can bring it to school and not be carrying around my older huge laptop. Didn't need one for gaming so I went with the small and light model. Its surprisingly very easy on the typing and the screen is crystal clear. Weighs about 4 pounds with a 13 inch screen. I love it. Dell was running a $750 off coupon 3 weeks ago and I was able to hop on it. After I sold my old laptop on ebay, My net cost was around $200. Specs- 1.7 Mobile P4 Centrino 1 gig ram Onboard Video(This isn't a gaming machine though can run 1.6 fine) Internal wireless+ modem/ethernet ports DVD-RW With dual layer Bought extra 8-cell battery Came to $1,800 with everything I wanted -$750 for coupon -$900 for old laptop sale =Approx $200 Net cost.
