Had a power out

We had a strong thunderstorm roll in about an hour ago that momentarily

cut off the power. When my computer did not reset, I tried to manually

turn it on again. Nothing at all. I know there is power going to my tower

because the power bar light is on & everything else connected to it is fine.

I tried turning the powerbar off & on again. I tried the reset button on the

tower. Nothing at all. I believe this happened to me before & I had a technician

come in, (back when I had a dell plan & CPU) the guy said it was the power

switch on the tower was blown. I'm thinking this is what happened again, but

I don't know what I'm looking for in terms of "power switch" This looks like my tower.

Same brand & everything, just not completely sure if that is the exact one.

Any help would be appreciated. Thank-You!

This may sound stupid, but have a go at physically unplugging the computer from the power strip. I've seen computers and monitors not turn on without being unplugged and plugged back in.

I have a UPS for that exact reason. When I first got my PC I was at my parent's house, and their wiring is terrible. Power goes out all the time. The only weird thing with the UPS is, when everything is out and my computer is still running.

Ya, that's spooky isn't it. No lights, no TV, no nothing but I can still game away. First time it happened, I thought a blown lightbulb had turned off the TV somehow. :bang::bang:

Yep, that was it! Thank-You guys. And yes, I think I'm long over due to pick up

a UPS unit. Almost everytime we have a thunderstorm up here we get multiple

brownouts, which makes things that much easier to blow.

a blown power switch... god lord man, and this guy is supposed to be a computer technician?? Has this guy ever seen the interworkings of a power switch... let me explain..

you have something like this on your motherboard

| | (two little pins sticking up), if you were to do this

|-| (touch them together) It completes the circuit and your motherboard power ups

Your power switch is nothing more than a plastic button conected to those pins by two wires, when you press the button down, the two wires touch each other and it powers on.

blown power switch.... *Brings out the pimp hand* *SMACK*
