tWc|WhiteyFord October 16, 2006 Share tWc|WhiteyFord Member October 16, 2006 ok so i am wondering what my cpu temp should be at? I am running speedfan and my cpu temp right now is at 50c. dragonfly October 16, 2006 Share dragonfly Member October 16, 2006 My 4200+ @ 2.32 idles at 29 w/ the Tt Big Typhoon... I cant get it to break 34 anymore.
discom October 16, 2006 Share discom Member October 16, 2006 hehe, i was kinda joking when i implied that 60c isn't hot. I know it's hot, but there is nothing i can do. I'm using a 6000 rpm fam with a heatsink like this http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16835109125 (except for socket A). I've reseated the cpu multiple times, each time using a better kind of thermal compound.
tWc|WhiteyFord October 16, 2006 Author Share tWc|WhiteyFord Member October 16, 2006 it is a better than stock heatsink, i have 3 fans in there. even with the side off it runs around the same temp idle is 50c right now
mohawk October 16, 2006 Share mohawk Member October 16, 2006 it is a better than stock heatsink, i have 3 fans in there. even with the side off it runs around the same temp idle is 50c right now whitey -- we have pretty much the same system, except i have 2 7900gts. How is SLI for you? I seem to get better performance in source running just 1 card rather then running them in SLI. I was told it was because the 4400+ isn't a strong enough processor.. and the hl2 engine is very cpu dependent...
dragonfly October 16, 2006 Share dragonfly Member October 16, 2006 You guys running at stock and sitting that high still!?
Cujo October 16, 2006 Share Cujo Member October 16, 2006 whitey, i'd say that's a bit warm for idle. make sure your cpu fan speed isn't limited in the bios. discom, what cpu do you have again? socket a runs hotter then 754 or 939.
tWc|WhiteyFord October 16, 2006 Author Share tWc|WhiteyFord Member October 16, 2006 how many rpms should my fan be running at? cujo, what speed rpm for fan or what voltage for fan? i am not sure how high i should take it.
Metallurgic October 16, 2006 Share Metallurgic Member October 16, 2006 Your case has the biggest influence on temperature. That and the heatsink. Anything above 50 needs some attention. Right now my A64 @2.2 is running at 37c at idle. Huge case, and several fans.
discom October 16, 2006 Share discom Member October 16, 2006 discom, what cpu do you have again? socket a runs hotter then 754 or 939. socket a AMD 3000 xp no overclocking anyways, i'm not really seeking help on how to make it run cooler.. cause as long as the side panel is off my comp never crashes due to heat
dragonfly October 16, 2006 Share dragonfly Member October 16, 2006 Funny story: My brother has a friends computer, and I noticed it was blowing HOT air out of the back. I turned the pc off, took the side panel off: 1 - the guy had removed all of the case fans. ALL of them! 2 - the only out-vent was air coming through the PSU 3 - The PSU was CAKED with dirt, so air could barely get through 4 - the heatsink was so caked with dirt I wasnt sure if it was aluminum or copper 5 - there was so much heat the case was hot on top I got fans, told my little 14 year old bro how to install them, and cleaned the rest myself. OUCH it must have been running at LEAST 55C. SO HOT!!! Just letting you know things could be a LOT worse

Might need to turn the Vcore voltage down a bit.
Cujo October 17, 2006 Share Cujo Member October 17, 2006 whitey, no idea man. somewhere in your bios should be a setting. stock heatsink should be at least at about 2400rpm. discom, it should be cooler. anyone who needs the side panel off to prevent the comp from crashing has heat issues. tWc|WhiteyFord October 17, 2006 Author Share tWc|WhiteyFord Member October 17, 2006 well i moved some fans around and changed their direction, i got the cpu down to 48c at idle, i am gonna get me another 120 and add it closer to the front. will update when complete. funny what turning a couple fans a bit can change the temp. Cujo October 17, 2006 Share Cujo Member October 17, 2006 fans at the front and side should be intake. top and rear should be exhaust. cpu fan if not pointing straight down should be pointed to rear fan.
