san` February 6, 2009 Share san` GC Alumni February 6, 2009 I'm having a problem. When playing CS:S I get random ping spikes. My net graph ping read anywhere from 400-500, even occasionally up to 800. This lasts upwards of 25 seconds and happens about 2 times per 30 round scrim. I've done the following: Reinstalled CS:S Updated all drivers Reinstalled Steam + CS:S + started with a default config Tweaked rates, settings, etc. Restarted modem + router Tried on wireless and wired connection (usually play wireless) Here's my specs: 1.83 GHz 64 Bit Intel Centrino Processor Technology featuring Intel Core 2 Duo Processor T5550 4GB DDR2 RAM NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GS 512MB I typically get anywhere from 60-200 FPS depending on the map, but when I get the ping spikes my FPS drops to 5-10. Any ideas?

Laz.e.rus February 7, 2009 Share Laz.e.rus Member February 7, 2009 run a traceroute. Youre prolly hitting a bad router/switch somewhere.

Laz.e.rus February 10, 2009 Share Laz.e.rus Member February 10, 2009 Try setting a trace to run repeatedly. Wont' show you anything if you dont get a lag while its running. Sidenote: Anything wierd that runs on a timer? Is it doing a virus scan or anything, or software DLing updates at those times?
dwEEziL February 10, 2009 Share dwEEziL Member February 10, 2009 A good app for running multiple trace routes is UOTrace. See this link, it has a download link and instructions for doing a trace route poll. http://support.ea.com/cgi-bin/ea.cfg/php/e...ated=1027446190
san` February 11, 2009 Author Share san` GC Alumni February 11, 2009 Wow, I am not sure why I didn't think of this before. It appears to have been a heat issue. Today I propped the back of my laptop up a little bit while playing and had no issues at all.
