Occasional ping spike issues-FIXED

san`

Recommended Posts

I'm having a problem. When playing CS:S I get random ping spikes. My net graph ping read anywhere from 400-500, even occasionally up to 800. This lasts upwards of 25 seconds and happens about 2 times per 30 round scrim.

I've done the following:

Reinstalled CS:S

Updated all drivers

Reinstalled Steam + CS:S + started with a default config

Tweaked rates, settings, etc.

Restarted modem + router

Tried on wireless and wired connection (usually play wireless)

Here's my specs:

1.83 GHz 64 Bit Intel Centrino Processor Technology featuring Intel Core 2 Duo Processor T5550

4GB DDR2 RAM

NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GS 512MB

I typically get anywhere from 60-200 FPS depending on the map, but when I get the ping spikes my FPS drops to 5-10.

Any ideas?

I should also note that I plugged directly into my modem last night and still got the lag issue.

Wow, I am not sure why I didn't think of this before. It appears to have been a heat issue. Today I propped the back of my laptop up a little bit while playing and had no issues at all.

He means that instead of the laptop being laid flat on the table (or whatever, he propped it up on something so there was space between the bottom of the laptop and the table.
