ZeroDamage July 2, 2009 Share ZeroDamage Member July 2, 2009 Really bad. This is my posting for my Dell Mini 9 from the other day. On a side note, if you are interested in it, I can ship to you if you are a known member of these forums. Anyway, here is the posting: http://blacksburg.craigslist.org/ele/1247180090.html Notice at the bottom my last comment about who I will not deal with. I had someone try to convince me that he is real and that his friend will make the transaction via money order even though I stated cash only in my posting. SO anyway, the emails I got today alone. Do you want some help finding a job online? Let me know ------------------------------------------------------------------ this message was remailed to you via: sale-f5dak-1247180090@craigslist.org ------------------------------------------------------------------ So what is wrong with getting this SPAM? Well, for one, it is SPAM. But the thing that really gets me is that it is getting past Gmail's SPAM filters. Every single one of them get past and all of the email addresses that they are coming from are Gmail email addresses. I got all of these today except for that last one from the other day. It seems that there are SPAM bots scouring Craigslist scouring for those long email addresses that Craigslist generates for you. So, do you want to help? Find similarities in the spam messages. What do they have in common besides coming from gmail email addresses? What would be a good way to make these Craigslist postings that would work to prevent these things? Sometimes, they ask you questions about the item and after you reply, they send the spam regarding job searching or if you are in need of money. I found a bike on craigslist and had to get my friend was going to pick it up because it was in richmond.. good thing I wasn't trying to buy a Dell Mini 9 from you I guess something like that but this guy was saying he was out of the country and needed an associate to pick it up and he would mail me a money order despite my saying no money orders. But yeah SJ, I was thinking the same thing with regards to the subject line.
Bewildered July 2, 2009 Share Bewildered Member July 2, 2009 Yeah, whenever we sell something on there, if its over about $300 then we get the spam, otherwise we don't. The 4+8 thing is a good idea, never thought of that.

anonymo July 3, 2009 Share anonymo Member July 3, 2009 Maybe this is related somehow to the fact that in the last week I've suddenly started to see spam get past Gmail's filters as they are supposedly from people on my contact list. Actually they seem to be using people from the US as I've gotten "mail" from people like Kilzugud and Nicksoapdish (their real names anyways) which really weirded me out. Unclean July 6, 2009 Share Unclean Member July 6, 2009 Yeah, that's just straight-up spam. Definitely the worst I've seen - usually I just get the nigerian scams. What's your response rate so far of spam vs non-spam?
ZeroDamage July 7, 2009 Author Share ZeroDamage Member July 7, 2009 4 out of every 5 responses is spam when dealing with Craigslist. But Craigslist is worth it if you have an active local community. It means you will sell your stuff fairly quickly.
