Scramble System

Hey, so I've been here for a while, and I realize that if I wanted to bring up a point or two about something that seems unfair, or even tentatively unbalanced, doing it on the forums is the way to go. That being said, I have come to the conclusion that the scramble system is unfair, as well as the conclusion that certain rules and guidelines regarding the scramble system only make it more so.

Now, this isn't going to all be about the inequity proposed by the scramble system and it's flaws. With all of this, I'm coming to accept the fact that team scrambles are better than nothing, and it's as good as it's going to get possibly for a long time coming. This is more so in regards to the rules and restrictions on scrambles (Being when they can happen, how they happen etc).

If you've been around a while, you know that scrambles happen, and that they, more or less, manage to at least do nothing or something positive for the long-run of the match. The flaws are obvious too, however, the largest one being that scrambles aren't allowed to happen for the finale of the game, nor are they allowed to happen in the middle of the game as well. Both of these restrictions put heavy consequences on the ability for the player to have fun.

The rule regarding scrambles not being allowed on the finale of a map is very confusing. I understand that the point it is that the game is almost over, and that by the time a finale comes around, no scramble really seems like it would give the other team a chance at winning. But this is irrelevant. In a match that is heavily-one sided, the finale is just a barrier to getting onto the next map, and hopefully, a more fair gaming experience. Why waste the players' time then? Why have a group of players just sit around and wait for the finale to end so they can get on with more entertaining means of playing the game? I understand very well that if they don't like it, there is always the other server to go to, but that just puts the people who are staying at even more of a disadvantage. If there is a chance that in a match, we could promote entertainment and fun, shouldn't we be doing that? Should we realize that it would be more advantageous for the happiness of the players to give them a finale that won't bore them to death, but actually make it so they won't want to just leave?

Regarding mid-match scrambles, it's just unreasonable that these aren't allowed to happen. If a game is very obviously stacked, and the scores are very close together still, wouldn't it be logical to scramble right then in order to make the future of the game a more equal one? I'm just a little dumbfounded by the fact that this isn't a used practice, and instead, admins simply wait for the round to end, letting the scores drift farther and farther apart from each other. Despite reasoning given to me for this, none of it makes any sense at all to me. Why let the game get more unfair than it needs to be? I'm still looking for answers to these questions, and as of yet, all that people have been able to get to me has been a load of crap that simply explains it off as "That's just how the server works."

Thank you for reading this if you did. And I'd like to hear about what you think, or about any over-sight or under-sight that you think I have in regards to the issue.

about third paragraph, there's skipvote for finales, whish it was automtic when theres 1000 or so score diference (i can only pry to the coding gods)

by the by, the max score in any given game is 1050, 800 plus 250 bonus. (but that would be one hell of a imposible comeback.)

duno how to feel bout mid match scramble, it would make stuff work out faster but it feels kinda untidy to me.

charmander is way better.

Hi Graze

Our protocol for admins regarding scrambles:

- Generally, we don't want to scramble mid-round, because of the confusion it creates.

- If possible the admin should announce a scramble prior to doing it

- At the beginning of a round, an admin can pause the countdown and determine if a scramble is needed (or a swap of players)

There is no rule about not scrambling for the final map.  It just might not seem needed, since if the teams are uneven, most players want a fast finale or to skip the finale (if the score is that far off).  But an admin can scramble at the beginning of a finale.   There is also no rule about not scrambling on the first round.  It just would rarely make sense.  But I have done it once or twice, when teams were obviously stacked and all agreed.  Again very rare situation.

Personally, I think swapping 1 or 2 players is better than a scramble.  I try to swap a member for a new/non-member.  Or many times the losing team will lose players at the beginning of a round, so it is a good time to move a member over.  When possible the admin should try to ask a specific person(people) if they mind swapping.

However, remember, 1 team is always going to lose.  The other thing is, even after a scramble or swap, a couple players can leave the server, a couple more enter, and it can stack the other direction in seconds.  It will never be perfect.

Hey, thanks for reading my post PB, I suppose that it all makes sense. I've played here for the past year or so, and it was immediately a rule (Apparently an unspoken one) that scrambles were not allowed to happen on the finale round. That is just how I've always had it happen, so thank you very much for clearing that up for me. Thanks for the information as well, since I couldn't seem to find that information anywhere on the forums. Thanks for taking the time to respond!

I only lose when my team makes me lose, for I am obviously the most talented Left 4 Dead 2 player of all time. See as I miss my 25 damage pounce! See as swatfishy shoots my boomer out of mid air!

Deliver your worship unto me as though I were a God.

I'm a little rusty too, I didn't play GC seriously for about a year and a half, but I'm back full time now, and while I'm still a bit rusty as said, I'm more than good enough to slaughter Pump with ease ;)

He used his admin powers to slaughter me. What are you waiting for? Slaughter him!
