  1. Nice ram, that's the same stuff I bought to put in my new machine back in January. Runs like a champ.
  2. Over the weekend one of the students in my wifes 4th grade class tried to commit suicide. Fortunately, the student didn't succeed, and therefore there's still a chance for the student to get help for whatever is going on. Not sure I really want to know the why, don't know that I could handle the knowing. I can't imagine what could drive a 4th grader to lose all hope in life. I'm asking for prayers for the families involved, including the classmates, and teachers touched by this. As a kicker to this day, my mother-in-law had some blood tests come back from over the past few weeks which showed her blood platelet count falling dramatically, which is a potential sign of cancer. She survived a bout with breast cancer several years ago, after she was given 6 months to live. (fortunately prayers, and intensive treatment forced the cancer into remission) My wife found out about the student this morning just prior to beginning to teach for the day, and then came home from work to a phone call saying that her mom might have cancer again. It's a bit rough right now, so I may not be around as much as I have been in the past few weeks. (in other parts of the forum, as well as on the servers.) please pray for these families. Thanks, William aka Wolfsblood.
  3. Hadn't heard that, that would rock. Where'd you hear that? I'd like to check that out, and see if I can catch it it does happen. From what I understand, that's how it started in the first place. Zerodamage, do you have the x800? I have a Leadtek 6600gt extreme, which comes factory oc'd to 550/560. I got that based on the bench's I'd read, and becauseI wanted to use the SLI mobo's and nVidia chipsets were the (and I think are still) only cards that can be linked. Just curious to know what your results are with that card; fps, what eye candy you have turned on in cs:s.
  4. Hmmmm, Sennheiser 150 for $55, or Brillow's Tritons (which he loves) for $76 Yeowch. Gotta think about the headset idea. Gotta get one, don't know about dropping that kind of cash on 'em though. Actually, re-reading Brillow's post, it would seem that I missed the really BIG BOLD letters USB. Not sure I want to go the USB route... More thinking needed. Call firedept, if the smoke from the thinking gets too dense.
  5. Yup, yup, yup. Between The ScreenSavers, and Yoshi's forum, that's where I got the knowlege, and the destire to build my own pc. I spec'd that last one out using what I'd learned from them, as well as talking to friends, so when it came to this comp I knew I was going to build it myself. Spent a bunch, but not nearly as much as if I'd bought it someplace else, or had an online computer shop build it for me.
  6. Yikes! That's too frightening to comtemplate. My wife's a teacher, as is fatty.
  7. www.yoshi.us/forums Youshi, formerly of The Screensavers (R.I.P.) of the murdered (by comcast) TechTV, runs that forum. Lots of knowlegeable folks there, and it should look familiar. (similar board proggy, might be same) *Disclamer: Overclocking WILL viod your cpu warranty, so if this is an issue, you might not want to do it. Also it IS possible, although unlikely with todays hi-tech boards aimed at overclockers, to burn up your cpu.* Now, that you've decided to overclock, read on. With that case, you should have enough ambiant cooling, the next question, is what heatsink/fan combo do you have? If you're running the stock cooler on your cpu, you'll want to upgrade that before oc'ing. You don't necesarily need to go to the extreme that Zero and I went with the Thermalright xp120 (like $80 for the heatsink only if memory serves me right), but there are plenty of nice neatsinks/fan combos. Thermaltake makes an excellent cooler, the Silent Boost for both Socket A, and all 3 A64 sockets. http://www2.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp...N82E16835106036 Fan IS silent. You will not hear it, especially with 4 case fans, plus psu fan. I have the Socket A version on my wifes OC'd xp2800+, but I switched the can out for one of my case fans to improve airflow to the cpu. SB's aren't meant for OC'ing, but that heatsink will dissapate a lot of heat, with the right fan on top. The HSF that Lunk installed: http://www.gamrs.co/forums/in...showtopic=17645 is also very nice. Many people have had good luck with Zalman's, although they can be a bit heavy, if you're carefull when moving your system you should be ok. Anyway, the actual overslocking will normally be done in BIOS. Start in small increments, raising the cpu frequency, a couple Mhz at a time, re-boot, see how it runs. If it fails to boot, hit reset, re-enter the BIOS, and dial the OC back down a few notches. Be careful, have fun, and let us know how it's going. Let me know if you need any other info, and I'll do my best to help. Wolfsblood
  8. Well I'm bringing the 'puter I built this winter to FF, so you can see it there, hopefully in full SLI mode. (depends on cash flow between now and then)
  9. Zero, I have that same heatsink. Spent a few hours lapping it (had to get the nickle plate off the bottom to expose the copper, then went for the mirror shine) My temps run 31c idle, and the highest I've seen it go under full load is 36c. Running an Athlon64 3200+ stock. Sweeto. Plenty of room for an overclock.
  10. Absolutely classic! Served the "hacker" right. Reminds me of the good old days of Diablo, when some punk asked me how to dupe items, and I told him to go into a game, drop all his stuff, and hit alt-f4 twice real fast, and magic would happen. Of course, alt-f4 twice not only exited the game he was playing, but quite Diablo at the same time. Poof, everything gone. Heh, be careful who you ask about how to cheat, they just might give the wrong answer. Cheaters never win.
  11. 1742 "°s§hadow§s°²™" STEAM_0:1:5315257 05:12 119 0 active pron spray also TK'ing. thx.
  12. Look forward to seeing you guys there.
  13. My wife will be playing SWG all weekend. Just not at Fragfest.
  14. If you can afford to drop another 512 ram in your system, I'd do it. You'll notice an immediate increase in speed (game loading, lvl loading, etc). Also, it'll help keep the fps up when there's a lot of action on screen. I dropped an additional 512 in my wife's Athlon 2800+ whitout her knowing it was going in, and she asked me the next day if I had installed her new ram, because SWG ran so much smoother.
  15. Actually, that's an urban legend. There is no actual proof that a case was brought against a car or motorhome dealer/manufacturer for this, at least none that my brother, or father (both attorneys) could find in court records. However, it isn't out of the realm of possibility that someone could be that stupid, but since cruise control has been around for so long in cars, it would seem that by the time you bought a motorhome, you would've already used cruise, at least once...
  16. I second that, I know I'm reading this a bit late, but if you still can, send it registered Overnight, that way they get it ASAP. Plus, you will know that they got it. Hopefully it will get to them before they sell the info, and doubly hopefully, they'll keep their word and NOT sell it once they have your letter. Unfortunately, if they've sold it to even one 3rd party, it will soon be sold to everyone. Here's hoping you get a letter to them in time to stop the madness, and that they honour their promise not to sell the info. Wolfsblood.
  17. So what time should we all be there for dinner?
  18. Yes, mapnight was a success, even if I did get booted at the start. Serves me right for being a cheapskate at the moment. Much fun was had, and much fragging of me was had by others. hehehe Airdrop. Hmmmm, bizarre. Nice for a change of pace, but not something I'd like to play often. No strategy, other than stab everyone, and sort 'em out later. The other ones I played were cool. Ghosttown was really cool. Nice to try other maps for a change. Great job guys.
  19. At least they tried to keep the serves clean. Good job guys. Sometimes people might listen, other times...
  20. Mongo, I had the same issue, but only when playing HL2. I was actually able to fix it with help from Steamsupport. *looks through email for details* To correct this please click the link below: steam://validate/220 Then rename the following folder: c:/program files/valve/steam/steamapps/USERNAME/Half-Life 2 to c:/program files/valve/steam/steamapps/USERNAME/~Half-Life 2 Then restart the game, this should correct the issue. ***note, this will eliminate saved games, you will need to move them from the ~Half-Life 2/bin/SAVE directory into the new Half-Life 2 folder when completed*** you will end up with 2 \Half-Life 2 folders (one with the tilde in from ot it.) Copy your save games folder from the \~half-life 2 folder to the other one (you might have to move some cs:s stuff too maps, skins, etc, I dunno) and you should (hopefully) be back in business.
  21. Good Luck with your comp upgrades, Laz. These guys are right on about the AMD Athlon64 chips. I also wasn't specifically suggesting buying the system piecemeal, just thought that's the way you were heading. If you need the vid card now for your current system, then AGP would be the way to go. The proc Cujo suggested is almost the same one I have. I got the 939 though. Don't know anything about the DFI Lanparty mobo's though, as the last couple I've bought have been Asus, and I've loved them. Like I said before though, do as much research as you can. Read the manufacturer's websites, check out www.tomshardware.com and other review sites to see what other techheads think about the components you're looking at, ask friends, then change your mind 300 times, (that's what i did) Oh, and you do plan on overclocking that cpu, get the OEM version, and then buy a better HSF, because the stock cooler on those won't take the extra heat, and why pay extra for a heatsink you won't use...
