  1. I'll tell ya what... I bet mine and maggie's felt the longest. Ever been in a car for 3.5 hours (6.5 total) after eating 6 sliders and chasing it with a blizzard knowing full well you're lactose intolerant.... I must have sprayed half a bottle febreeze into that thing today.
  2. aye aye captain, we made it back after moaning and groaning about how sore we were from VB. Funny after scarfing White castle and Blizzards from DQ on the way home we both decided we'd start exercising more.... that gonna happen... prolly not, but we can hope. Good time all around. Good to see everyone, and I'll see ya guys next year!
  3. Tailgating here in chicago is pretty much the standard. If you don't get up close enough to the car in front of you... someone else will. Is kinda crappy, but its the way it works... everyone is in a hurry and they'll cut you off in a heartbeat if it means they can get where they are going a fraction of a second before you. One other important note. In Chicago, there is no 'Speed Limit' per se on the expressways. You go as fast as traffic will let you go. That being said. In Chicago its not uncommon to see a string of cars moving at about 75 a few feet apart. After a while you actually become comfortable with the distance. When I'm driving on an Interstate outside of Chicago I back off a bit and use my flashers when I'm really hauling butt. Secondary Question: What is your average/comfortable cruise speed on an Interstate? /me 78-80 mph
  4. Knock... are you stopping short with me?
  5. I chose #1... and instead of reiterateing above, suffice to say i agree 100% with Homer. If you ain't passing then what the heck you doing in the passing lane. And No, passing a car @ 75 when the car you're passing is going 72 is not considered passing in my book. Xterminator: If you happen to see a Black 95 Toyota camry in your rear window about 10 feet off your tail with a a filipino with long hair driving and a white guy with a beard on you r way to fragfest.... speed up or move over <-- me when I'm stuck behind slow drivers in the left lane ***EDIT*** I think in IL they passed a law that took effect this year that states you can actually be pulled over and ticketed if you're 'obstructing traffic' in the passing lane.
  6. are spouses counted? regardless.. I'm saying 51. PS: I'm still trying to talk Chief into being a walk-on. PPS: Warm Beer... only if she's Five Three... PPPS: That last Post-Post-Script makes no sense and should be striken from the record PPPPS: On second thought it makes sense b/c I'm reading about warm beer and listening to Baby Got Back...
  7. well I am a current member of CFA (Coffee Freaks Anonynmous) I don't drink the good stuff often, but revel in the opportunity to stop by Intelligensia or a (dare I say it out loud) ...yes Starbucks... *sob* Iknow.. I'm not a man... It just tastes so much better than the slop they give us at work... but ya can't shake a stick at free coffee. Preacher, I'll bring a few small bags of beans if you bring the grinder. "I made coffee during Desert Storm... It's all in the grinds...." -BlackHawk Down
  8. yeah I just upgraded to the 1 gig of RAM. RUnning with that Mushkin Black "High Performance" RAM. Nice stuff. As for video cards... I'm crawling along with my tried and true GeForce4 Ti4200 128mb I equate it to my car(a 95' Camry w/181K miles) Its old and may not look like much but i'll be darned if its ever failed me.
  9. Wowza, I finally found the page with the story (were there 24 chapters?) The pictures were VERY eerie Pretty scary stuff... (And I work with and around large amounts of radioactive material every day) The numbers she quoted as far as instantaneous death due to acute radiation exposure were perhaps a little exagerated. 500 REM(or RADs) in 5 hours will not drop a person instanteously dead.... they may go down, but with proper medical treatment it is possible to survive a Radiation dose this high althoguh with serious health effects. ie: I remember a few years back (maybe early 90's?) hearing of a criticality accident in Japan. Three inexperienced and untrained workers made the mistake of transporting too many nuclear power fuel rods in one container and what is known as a "prompt Criticality" occured. They were hit with a very very very large dose of radiation by today's industrial standards (5 REM/year in the U.S. under NRC regulations) One man died two weeks later from massive organ failures. I don't remmber the details, but for some reason their dosimetry was not functioning or they wreren't wearing any... but they estimate his dose to be around 850 REM instantaneously. The other two got doses a bit lower (550 and 650 I think is what was estimated) I think the 650 guy passed away like 5 years ago from unrelated causes( I wanna asay a car crash) and the third is still alive today, granted I believe he is now fighting Leukemia(probably caused by the dose) I could go on for quite sometime on this. But I'll sum up with a few facts. microREM's are nuthin... The background outside the facility I work at is around 5-10 microREM The background exposure rate in my office is about 20 microREM. The average person in the Midwest takes in roughly about 250-550 milli REM per yaer due to background radiation (cosmic rays, Radon Gas seeping from the soil, various naturally occuring radioactive materials in food ie: Potassium-40 is a high energy gamma emitter, medical x-rays, and we are all globally exposed to roughly about 5 mrem a year due to above ground nuclear weapons testing from the later half of the 20th century.) Radiation is scary to the public b/c it is not well understood by many.... including the media largely in part b/c of the reporting of 3-Mile Island. No reporter at the time coudl say "Radiation". It was always "Deadly Radiation" or "Dangerous Radiation". Oh, and before I sign off: Radiation does not "glow" per-se. The blue "glow" coming off of Fuel rods in a cooling pool is called a Cerenkov Glow. Its caused by the electrons being emitted from the rods moving faster than the speed of light. (In air or in a vacuum electrons cannot surpass the speed of light, but under water its possible) So NO I will not "glow" after working around radiation... that is unless I somehow get a massive electon/Beta Particle emitter attached to me and submerge myself underwater... but then the immediate danger isn't the radiation... its the possibilty of me drowning. Whoa... who put this soap box under my feet. LongHair aka: Noy Health Physicist (Radiation Safety Specialist)
  10. I don't know much abotumaking drinks but I do know i think g about drinkin 'em... a suggestion for teh official FF drink: Put something Red in it (Grenadine, Crandberry, etc.) somethig akin to Vodka, if not vodka itself, some thing kinda chunky that might resmeble brain/skull fragments(ideas?) and call it a Headshot.
  11. now that I think about it... i wouldnn't mind seeing an oldschool game of WCII (thats 2, as in two, as in deux, as in dos) coudl be fun
  12. all they said was Lunks wife had a baby... never said it was Lunks... BURN!!!! Gratz L to the mudda -unk
  13. I'm just hoping that we won't have to drive to the next county for ice...
  14. hehe I got X last week, but i haven't gotten very far... don't ruin it for me, but I'm on the Ronso Mountain with over 60 hours logged.... but i'd say half of that is from coming home from a night of drinkin or what not and deciding to play... then falling asleep on the couch with the game still on.

    How Stuff Works?

One of my best friends from high school lives over there now. Just got his dual citizenship last fall. Right now I believe he's giving walking tours of Rome. If you happen to get an american tour guide named Tyson. Tell him Noy (aka LongHair) says hi. Should be a fun time... he went over to study architecture for a semester and never really came back.... that was 3 years ago. Welcome home dude
  16. When I was in 7th grade we had 1 apple 2e to share with an entire school... we also had like 8 radioshack computers. Bess... that was just the name of a cow to me.
  17. Sup folks- Taking off to Norfolk, VA this afternoon and will be passing back throguh Ohio sometime on Tuesday or Wed. on my way back (in a bit of hurry to get out there) Unfortunately I'm not sure which day yet, it all depends on.... well alot of things. Anyway, anyone near Colomubus or Dayton wanna get together to have a cup o Joe or quick bite around lunch time on one of those days? I'm planning on meeting up with Gond near Dayton at some point. Not sure if thats gonna work out, but I hope it does. Coolio and the gang -LH

  21. Plenty of room there eh? BURN!!!!
  22. I'm sure someone coudl just bring a 12 gauge over and put a few holes in the case for you.... or we could use a pick axe, heck that might be pretty fun I believe Homer refered to them as "Speed Holes" Or instead of sacrificing Longhair to the fire again this year, we can throw the PC in for a few minutes.. I bet that would produce a pretty cool effect.. ah heck... everyone knows that a fire just ain't a fire until I get burned.
