  1. Have you seen the ASUS tablets yet that run Windows 7? They are freaking killer... I love the form factor. That particular Android tablet looks pretty slick...I have basically been following news on these tablets: ASUS, MSI,and Samsung
  2. You're just jealous because Apple can't do it on the fly like ASUS...and I *SAID* it wasn't necessary OK, OK, I'll stop poking the forum fruit-master. Seriously, the UL series by ASUS is the way to go in my opinion. Inexpensive, light, and loooong battery life. They sell 'em at Best Buy too, so you can go check on out in person before buying.
  3. This is actually one of the laptops I was going to suggest....I prefer this one, personally. However, it is a bit more expensive. The cool thing about that is that (aside from beating the pants off the refurbished Mac SJ posted, spec wise) it has dual video card switching. So if she wants to do anything more graphically intensive, she can--if she wants super long battery life, she has it. I'm not sure it NECESSARY for her...but hey, it works... OH, don't buy anything with less than 4 GB of RAM if you're planning on keeping it for a while. That's my 2-cents..even a Mac, I wouldn't buy without 4 GB of ram. PS: sorry SJ, couldn't resist the dig . . .
  4. I was going to say that but I figured Primus was just looking for an excuse to upgrade. I like Ultimate Boot CD. Try out Memtest86+ on it. I also use Ultimate Boot CD
  5. I'm using Mushkin in my desktop, G.Skill in my wife's laptop, G.Skill was in my old laptop, OCZ in my brother's computer, Crucial in the other brother's computer, Kingston in my Mom's machine, and I think Dad is running Patriot... I've had good luck with all of those brands . . . though I did have a bad OCZ stick when I first used them. (they were a fairly new company at the time). My Mushkin RAM has been a killer contender.
  6. http://www.toplessrobot.com/2010/05/the_mushroom_kingdom_is_a_walk_in_the_park_for_ryu.php NEW CHARACTER!
  7. How much are you looking to spend? That'd help us make suggestions. I like ASUS for bang for the buck. For $1,000 you can have a pretty serious gaming notebook from them (it's what I'm typing on right now). They have some with 12 hours of battery for around $650 - $750 as well. (they get this with on the fly video card switching, which is pretty killer)
  8. My wife was May 7th...does that count?

  10. http://www.toplessrobot.com/2010/05/portal_portals_into_team_fortress.php I didn't want to just embed it because I wanted to give TR the credit...but man, that looks like a good time!
  11. Right, because you're competent :-) Like I was trying to insinuate--the problem in the video was a clueless user with an old system PS, game play has never been interrupted for me for windows updates....weirdo
  12. I have a Droid (Motorola) and personally, I notice no discernible lag when typing. That being said, I make sure to keep excess apps closed with task killer. I suppose if you had 15 or 20 apps open you'd have some problems. I know there is some serious lag on 2.0, but I'm running 2.1 on the Droid, and I'm very impressed. The HTC Incredible also uses 2.1. I've also learned that, through custom roms, a lot of people run their Moto Droids at 800 mhz or even 1 ghz (but that's a battery hog). That means you can overclock your Android phone...it's not even that hard to do. I'm a huge fan thus far. (for the record, I'm coming from BlackBerry, and am a pretty fast on-screen typist)
  13. " * NVIDIA GeForce GT 120 with 512MB of GDDR3 memory, PCI Express 2.0, one Mini DisplayPort, and one dual-link DVI port * ATI Radeon HD 4870 with 512MB of GDDR5 memory, PCI Express 2.0, one Mini DisplayPort, and one dual-link DVI port" Those aren't what I'd call gaming "powerhouse" video cards...lol...my laptop has a better vid card in it than that. No, I was simply implying that Macs have great performance within their OS and optimized programs, even if they're a few years old. However, a few year old mac is somewhat weak in the video card department, which is probably why that guy got that message. So what I was really saying is that he's simply not aware of video card improvements over the years.
  14. OK, so my BlackBerry died...it made me sad, but the screen started registering every tap rather incorrectly, which is a problem on a full-touch-screen phone. My initial thought was to go to the Storm 2 (I had a Storm), as it is a pretty slick phone, and I know people that have it. Then I started reading up on the Motorola Droid and the HTC Incredible...and well, now I have a Droid. I went with the Droid because I needed a phone NOW (as mine was somewhat unusable) and it is running vanilla Android 2.1. HTC uses the Sense interface, which is basically a ROM they wrote themselves. So the Incredible has a better processor, but the Sense UI uses up more resources and gets updates slowly. All-in-all, I'm happy with the Droid. Also, it's more than fast enough to play Chrono Trigger through an SNES emulator without any slow-down...and that's a definite bonus! Anyway, just thought I'd post up and say that, since Android 2.1, these phones are really awesome. The OS just wasn't there yet in previous iterations, but it is now. 2.2 is suppose to be a HUGE improvement and will be launching this month. I can't wait! Also, if the providers can't figure out how to block it, I get free tethering built in! (otherwise I'd have to get free tethering via a work-around).
  15. Don't go to Best Buy and look--they split the signal repeatedly, send it through filters, and use analog on some TVs and digital on others. Hell, I've read articles claiming that Best Buy even purposely boots a cleaner/boosted signal to the TVs they want to push so that they look better. Go to a HiFi store to compare...but I'd personally go with this: http://www.amazon.com/LG-47LH90-47-Inch-Backlit-Infused/dp/B0026NSWSQ/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1274118471&sr=8-4 It's not as skinny as an edge-lit screen, but this back-lit LED TV is the one that is THX certified, it's better than edge-lit. It's also a little bit more money...hehehe...but I'd definitely pay the extra $$ for an LED TV. Here it is just a little cheaper...with free shipping no less!
  16. Hahaha...perhaps this will wake up a lot of Mac users (Steam being available) and show them that their machines aren't exactly gaming power-houses . . .
  17. Windex, can you just make this a program I can run on my computer then?
  18. I was just coming over here to post this...say goodbye to your productivity.

    1.6

    I miss the 1.3 mp5 the most...
  20. [LaW]Maverick

    1.6

Started with good ol' 1.0 (or was 1.1 the first retail version?)
  21. [LaW]Maverick

    HDTV

Hahahahaha I often found myself wondering about that...my computer monitor back in 1997 was 1600x1200 . . . then it was a huge deal when TVs hit 1024x768 years later??
  22. I have a ASUS G72 and love it--runs Dragon Age and Fallout 3 with the settings cranked. I tried Crysis on it too, runs nicely. The new G73 sells for $1,199 at Best Buy and is pretty killer...
  23. I'm 67 or 68 hours into the PC Dragon Age and have something like 33% of the game completed...it's a MASSIVE game. Ummm...I just downloaded Tribal Wars (a Quake Wars mod that looks awesome), and I'm thinking about playing some good ol' Mechwarrior 4: Mercenaries....
  24. That's awesome! Let us know if we can help! Good luck!
