  1. BiGBonES you're right, I completely forgot that since he installed it on his own computer, he won't even have my favorite servers! Since the ping from me isn't that great to any GC servers (not bad, just not exceptional), the chances of him even ending up in here are astronomical. I guess we may as well call the whole thing off. As for trying to get him into the GC community, I'll wait till after he gets hooked on CS:S .
  2. I'm just going to be letting him use it for a week or so, he wants to figure out if Source will run OK on his computer. Maybe I'm being too paranoid, but I think it's a safe bet that if he ended up in GC servers he'd start swearing eventually. If it takes admins much effort to do a ban/unban then don't bother and I'll just deal with it on the off chance he gets in there (slim I guess), but if it's trivial (as I assume it is) then a short break will give me a little time to get some programming done for classes anyway .
  3. Another strange ban request. I'm going to be letting a friend use my Steam account for a little while, so I'd like to request a temporary ban for my own Steam ID (STEAM_0:1:7130199). Basically I just want to be banned for a while, to make sure that he doesn't get himself banned for me (if that makes any sense). Thanks in advance.
  4. Just go into the launch options for the game in Steam and add a switch for width and height. For example my launch options look like this: "-dxlevel 81 -w 1280 -h 1024" I think you can also put "-windowed" to run in a window. I used to have this same problem and this seems to solve it most of the time.
  5. Just got settled back into the dorms at UMass (Amherst). For some reason I couldn't ping the server through my home router, even with my comp on the DMZ . from Amherst, MA (about 15 mi. N of Springfield)
  6. I'd been doing SETI@home earlier in the summer, although I stopped a little while back when i formatted my HDD. I'd be down to start again, once I get back into the dorm I'll probably be leaving the PC on at least 16 hours a day, so that way it won't be wasted while I'm in class.
  7. From what I've seen, HP is the best brand out there for ink printers. My parents have had an HP PSC for about half a year and they're happy with it; my roommate's had one for at least two years and it hasn't failed him yet (not sure how often he has to buy ink). I've had two low-end Lexmarks (the ones where a new printer costs less than black + color ink) and they're pretty crappy. I think I'm about to give up on them right now, since I have what the printer claims is a full black cartridge in there but almost no black prints. I don't have much knowledge of different brands of laser printers (all the ones at work are enormous Canon PSCs), but if you think about one be sure to research how much the cartridges will cost; the toner cartridges for the ones at work are I think well over $100, if not a few hundred, but I don't know fi they're more expensive just because they're bigger.
  8. Regenerating Duck with 500HP and a knife? This might be scarier than real life zombies.
  9. This may seem extreme but have you considered checking your hardware? The performance you say you're getting is way low considering you've got a modern system in all respects, but I'd imagine if one of your RAM sticks was bad or some other component that would cause serious performance problems. If you've got spare parts or can borrow some, I'd swap out each of the video card and the RAM sticks individually just to rule that out, and if you've got two RAM channels try putting your sticks into the other channel to make sure that's not the problem. I've seen hardware problems cause some wierd and sometimes subtle problems without ever reporting an error. Otherwise you may want to see if you can copy the config from someone who has a similar set of hardware and software, or even better if possible (although unlikely) get someone with a near-identical hardware config to put their HDD in your machine and see if they have the same problem and vice-versa.
  10. I agree all the way, except Charmander would be way better. But about the Chit-chat thing definitely.
  11. I don't know a lot about CS configs, but I'd suggest putting Source back to all the default settings and see what happens there. I'd expect that when you switch from intel to AMD some of the settings would need to change, you might want to double-check that all your instruction sets are right (MMX, SSE, 3DNOW!, etc.). I'd imagine that with a high-end video card like you've got you can probably run DirectX at 9.0 instead of 8.1. OK, now for the joking part: Obviously you need a new HDD. HL2 is gonna take way more than 120MB, I think it installs well over 3GB .
  12. That's a great way to get on their good sides. I'm not a Mac guy myself, and I've never used ITunes, but I have seen people do this on Windows versions. So keep trying, I know it's possible.
  13. Stats all cleared? Woot! now I'll finally be able to get an award.
  14. Never had one. Just thought I'd let you know that unless this is some kind of in joke with other Grand Prix owners the last part of the post makes no sense (or maybe I'm just being stupid).

    Lol

It's there so we can all say "ROFLZ have ridges."
  16. Not to nit-pick (and much thanks for all the effort Bub), but I saw the links for stats on #4 and #5 on the front page, so I checked out #5 since I'd been playing on it some. I was a little surpsised to find stats for myself going back to July 2. Just out of curiousity, anyone know where these came from? I'm thinking maybe that the stats for #5 are showing stats from #3, based on the players I see on there.
  17. Americans. American or Cheddar?
  18. This looks like it could be a real good time. Maybe we could give #6 a break from scoutzknives?
  19. Look at it this way, now's the chance to try and grab one of the carnage awards before you rack up a lot of games.
