  1. Have had the KLR about a week now and I'm having a blast on it. I have more fun on this thing that I ever did with my street bike. Which I already sold for $3000. I'm not sure but maybe because it's my ability level... I just feel like I can push this bike closer to what it's capable of. I picked up a matte black Shoei RF-1000 helmet today for $270. Taking into consideration the titling, registration, new helmet and sale of my other bike. This bike cost me about $1000.
  2. Paying 20k for school or certs is just a way to force yourself to learn. If you have enough motivation, you can teach yourself anything without school. Such as MIT opencourseware If you really want to learn how to setup a small office network, take some of those spare machines you have sitting around your house and try to set up the network you want. Find yourself a copy of Microsoft's ISS or use Ubuntu. You can find how to's for everything you want to do on the net, no point in school when you have all the information you could ever need at your finger tips...
  3. The time spent to funniness ratio was way off on this one.
  4. I like FFX the best.. Fragfest X I wonder if I'll ever make it to one of these...
  5. I spent the past week trying to get the user interface of some motif widgets to display correctly. My job is getting boring... I guess I'm just milking it for whats left though.. My lease ends in a month down here in Va Beach. I've been with this company for about 5 years straight outta college. I've got myself in a good position to just pack up all my stuff and move to another city.
  6. How about I come up with what the PC and MAC user look like and then ask you which you would hire? The truth, it hurts doesn't it?
  7. doesn't most of the world not drink milk? They look at it as stuff babies drink.
  8. While reading about riding, I came across this thread http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=136505 I'm not going to give any spoilers away... If your into motorcycles or not, it's a good read and is something that will stick with me forever. It's a 64 page thread. Read at least straight through 13.
  9. gixxers are for women
  10. Went to the dealership today.. I sat on a 2009 with stock suspension and it felt perfect. I'm 6 tall and can flat foot it no problem. The person selling it private had his changed for a heavier rider and it wasn't as soft and didn't sink as much. The dealer also had a used 2008, the exact same bikes as the private seller with only 400 miles on it. They wanted $4300 for it. I told them I found the same exact bike for $3500 and they couldn't do any better.. So as soon as I got home, I called up the guy and he's delivering it to me on Tuesday. Now I just have to sell my marauder. Hoping I can get 2k out of it. Im just going to sell it AS-IS. She runs fine, has vance and hines pipes and only 6k miles, but she really needs to warm up for a while before she starts riding good. Probably just in need of a good tune-up.
  11. exactly what I was thinking with the tires... I went and looked at it yesterday. Sat on it a while, but didn't take it for a test ride. I told the guy today that I was still thinking about it and that I had already started the money transfer just in case.. It's raining this weekend or I would go out and ask to ride it tomorrow. It's Kawasaki's 4th best selling bike.. And no, I don't want to race and go 100MPH. Everyone says you can basically cruise at 65-70 no problem.
  12. So first I had a Kawasaki Ninja ZX6-R.. Fast bike.. to fast and not comfortable for long distance Last summer, I picked up a Suzuki Marauder Street Bike.. Comfortable.. but overall, I'm finding it very boring and it's not really my style at all So now, I'm thinking about trading for a different bike. I've been reading alot about adventure bikes.. and found a 2008 KLR 650 with 800 miles on it for $3500. The cool thing about these bikes are.. 50-55mpg and a 6.1 gallon tank. I think you get around a 275 fuel range before you gotta kick in the reserve. Very comfortable for long distances. Plenty of accessories to carry stuff with you... and I can go places on this that street bikes would have a little trouble with. Thoughts? I'm really thinking about taking 2 weeks off this summer and just taking a road trip, trying to find the best bike for this...
  13. I got it it when it first came out and it was a little buggy and didn't render everything correctly. I briefly switched back to firefox and shortly after I went back to chrome and it was alot better. I've probably been using it over a year now and I would never go back to firefox. Firefox has become a dog and takes forever to load. Chrome is snappy and much faster. And the first release was called firebird, which I can slightly remember using.
  14. I picked up a q8400 for $150. It doubled my framerate in BC2. Overclocked it on my older stock Intel heatsink that came with my e6550(It's much beefier than the new ones). Without changing the voltage, I'm running at 3.3Ghz and I haven't even tried to go higher. The temps are the same as stock clock. Did burn in tests and everything. CPU score on http://www.cpubenchmark.net/high_end_cpus.html was at 5,204, which is awesome considering stock scores 3,666. Puts me just a couple hundred points behind an I7 860. This worked out pretty good, because I now removed the dual core celeron from my media machine/server and dropped in the core2

    debt

I'm not thinking someone is better based on their debt/income ratio. I'm just trying get ahead in this system. One thing is for sure, as long as I owed money on credit cards, cars, student loans, etc.. and didn't have the captial to pay it off at anytime, I was never going to get ahead. And here is an update one year later... I sold my townhouse and got rid of my mortgage. Luckily I was about to sell it for $173k and I owed $172k. This meant that it only cost me 1k at closing to get rid of it. So minus the work I did to it, I walked away owing nothing. Now Im renting a one bedroom apartment, which is quite a bit smaller, but three major factors here are 1. It's $300 cheaper a month 2. I have the flexibility to move. I plan on looking for a job elsewhere soon, as well as a pay increase. 3. No upkeep. I dropped about 3-4k into the house last summer, just so I could sell it. As far as my debts go... I have stuck to my plan very well.. I'm still above water.. in fact, I'm way above water. I have zero amount of debt and let's just say I have more liquid assets now than the total debt I had accrued. I have been putting 33% of every paycheck into a savings account that gets a measly 2% APR. I'm at the point now where I'm actually looking for substantial investments. You know how people tell you to "snowball" your debt.. Well, snowballing can also work for you the other way.
  16. Bad Company 2, 2 cores vs 4 cores http://www.overclock.net/pc-games/659536-contagion-review-dual-core-vs-quad.html oh, I also had to drop down to DirectX 9.
  17. The game rocks, so much that I want to upgrade my comp to play. I've only played MW2 for xbox, but I think bc2 is much better. Makes you feel like your own a battlefield. Buildings blow up with RPG hits, they collapse and kill you. Tanks and RPG's take out trees. jet skis, 4 wheelers.. And you have squads of 4. I have to set everything on medium, shadows on low and run at 1400x900 to get a frame rate that is playable for me. It can push 1900x1200, but I've always taken smooth gameplay over graphics.. It looks damn good though and I would like to at least be able to run at 1680x1050. I've read alot about quad's really helping the game out.. and a bottleneck being only dual cores. I know the i7 is an overall better setup, but I'm really just wanting to get more FPS in this game. I think price/performance ratio, I will be better off picking up a q8400 for $150 rather than dropping $450 on an i7 setup. But I might hold off a little while for prices to drop.
  18. So for the past 2+ years I've had a e6550 dual core. I recently picked up bad company 2 and my frame rate is to low for my liking. I have a 4850 video card which I know isn't top of the line, but from what I have read bc2 gets a nice performance boost with quad cores. So do I hold off and eventually build a new i7 machine. Or I can pick up a q8400 quad for only $150. Do you think the price performance ratio is worth it? or will the q8400 be comparable for much cheaper? Right now im leaning toward dropping in the cheap quad. I've been checking out WWW.cpubenchmarrks.net and the q8400 looks pretty good for only a $150 upgrade
  19. I usually take my time reading books, read a chapter every couple days or so... I've only read two chapters, but I have to ask the question.. Is the game DragonAge based on this book? Blights... creators... Waders fighting trollocs.. The game should have been called wheel of time, but I guess that doesn't sound as cool.
  20. I just bought it last night without ever seeing this thread before..
  21. hey man, I'm still alive as well
  22. I still have my .edu address if anyone needs it
  23. I've taken laptops apart. I've also done quite a bit of soldering. But I have never re-soldered something on a motherboard. If you know how to solder, it shouldn't be hard.
