  1. Okay, so I hooked up my old rig to transfer all of my music onto CDs from there (i lost my CD book, good thing i backed my songs up ) But the thing is that this computer just crawls along even when doing such a simple task as opening a folder. I'm running XP with Service Pack 2. 1.29 ghz, 256 MB ram Geforce Ultra 2 or something, not that grphx card matters here. I uninstalled a whole load of crap, defragged my harddrive, ran anti-spyware software (which rid a TON of spyware and crap i had on here, and improved performance a bit), did a virus scan, the works. So whats wrong with my computer? Is opening a folder in XP so demanding on my rig? Why is opening internet explorer taking me about a minute? thanks in advance, since i know ill recieve a helping hand from one of the in-house GC computer experts.

  7. Ever notice if you get married before a certain age, people think your weird, but if your not married by a certain age people think your weird? But anyway, congratulations bro! And what a nice story to go along with it too. I'm sure many can relate to your situation but never actually got to marry the girl

  9. Sudden Opera by Frank Stafford In Arkansas the liquor costs The wind lifts a finger And that is all You look over your shoulder When you have a chance Your bottle is empty If I could go somewhere I would go where the music doesn't have knuckles And the dancers don't wear boots I'll never leave here The creeks are so cold and solo My tie-rack is a convent The pool hall is closed
  10. maybe i should send in the check.... i feel like a moocher.
  11. Brave New World is fantastic. I just started another book by him today. Never read that Postman book, but I read "Teaching As A Subversive Activity" by him and it was really good. I dont have anything to add to this really, oober said it all i think. consumerism has even invaded my religion and now on chanukah you give gifts every night. i think it's ridiculous. just an observation of mine: many people do not seem to think of religion and how it relates to them personally. they think of it as this ambgious term, something that describes your person. like, its just another trait you inherited from your parents. just like the color of your eyes, or your nationality. i may be off on this but i think it's true of some people. agreed, this is just how things are now.
  12. you should come play with the Village Idiots on Whisperwind. Though we're on the alliance side...
  13. i miss those kinda games. age of empires was great. do they still make good RTS? seems like the genre has almost died out like adventure games.
  14. I'm not from there but I still miss it none the less. Senior in high school, and unemployed at the moment. I did work at a farmer's market for a while running a produce stand but it is now closed down for the winter. Lately my income has been coming from playing Texas Hold Em. I just picked the game up a couple months ago and I seem have a natural knack for it. In my spare time I write and record songs and music. That is my passion and what I hope to do with my life. If that fails, I might have to fall back on the family business. My sister and brother both went into the business but I would like to travel my own road. I plan on attending college in one of the following states: Virginia, Oregon or Tennessee.
  15. lvl 22 warrior right now, almost 23.

  20. This week a friend and fellow classmate of mine passed away. She was only 17. I was going to post on this part of the board for your prayers for her when she was in a coma, but alas, it was too late. They're not sure what exactly killed her. Supposedly she had an enlarged heart, and that somehow caused damage to her brain. They do know this was an extremely rare disease. At the funeral, the rabbi told us of how a week before she went into a coma, she was in the car with her mom. There was a commercial on the air, talking about donating organs. She exclaimed, "People are so selfish! Why do you need your organs when your dead?" This was the first time she ever expressed this sentiment to her mother on this subject. The rabbi went on to tell of how she had an extremely rare blood type, and now, because of her, there is a man in San Francisco who has a new liver. There is an old woman in upstate New York who will use her kidney. And I believe there are two others, I dont remember the specifics of each case, but I do know there are a total of 4 people who can now live because of my friends death. A coincidence, or an act of god? We all prayed for a miracle and it didnt come. Though at a closer look it seems it actually may have. Not for me and my grade nor her parents, but for the families of these 4 other people who now have new hope in their lives and the fact that we all know even in her death she is helping others.
