  1. Couldn't find a 64-bit build. Sorry... But try Opera. It's pretty nice, too. Dunno if they have a 64-bit build, but it's worth a look.
  2. I think you should have told him that HE has to run new lines for Comcast and not make his client/customer mess around with some other jackalope who's just going to tell you that you need to get Comcast to run new lines. Both companies will point the finger at eachother, you need to grab the first finger you see and break it. I'd have to go with 'mo on this...Especially if he's got one cable for Internet and DirectTV has who knows how many cables for televisions. OF course, neither company is likely to do that for free for you, unless you pay for the in-house wire warranty (I know that's how Charter cable does it here, and I understand DirectTV is the same way). That's not stopping you from running your OWN cable, though...Not too expensive, and you can eliminate that as an issue. A simpler thing to do, however, would be to check the splitter. Make sure it's rated for at least 1 GHz. If not, bug the cable guy to give you one (they hand them out like candy around here) or go to your local Radio Shock and see if they have any 1 GHz splitters around. This won't solve the issue of you simply sharing cable with too many bandwidth hogs (that's a cable Internet infrastructure issue) but it's possible that there are technical issues preventing you from getting everything you can out of your line, and if you can do that it might alleviate some of your bottleneck. 3. An ideal point is 0-dimensional...It occupies no space: no length, no width, no height, no time, etc. Of course, that raises some great questions about ideal points...I mean, if it's not here does it exist?
  4. A guess, that's it: It's a 32-bit app running on a 64-bit OS?
  5. You also want to look in to how you are assigned. I can't remember exactly how that works, but if you're a forest guy, you don't want to get thrown in as a ranger in, say, The Everglades. But again, a current ranger would be a great resource for that. I'd also ask what they recommend for an education curriculum to make you the most competitive candidate possible. Fun factoid, as related to me by a park ranger in the ENP: The U.S. Park Ranger is the most assaulted officer (per capita) in U.S. law enforcement.
  6. Pshaw. *dismissive hand gesture* http://www.tomshardware.com/2006/01/09/strip_out_the_fans/ Video on page 2.
  7. Huh. I pulled one of those chess computers apart recently because it was given to me by a friend in a box o' crap. It's amazing how much they could do with what they had to work with.
  8. I'll follow Geek's off-roading course and try to take the topic in yet another direction: I haven't seen The Good Shepherd yet, but I was excited to see it (you know, eventually) and I heard high praise about it as well. I am disappointed to hear it downplayed by you, Playaa, because I find I agree with your opinions on movies a lot...that means I'll be disappointed. But anyway, to take us off-topic, I really liked Spy Game with Robert Redford and Brad Pitt. Have you seen that one, and if so, what did you think of it?
  9. Little America? That's like saying California shares a border with the U.S...
  10. Maybe technically it is, but I agree with you...That shouldn't count.
  11. i too am buff, but have neither a home nor theater. would this be useful? InFocus IN72 Home Entertainment DLP Projector (New) $599.99 -$200.00 mail in rebate ------------ $399.99 (+$5 shipping) http://www.woot.com price is only good today... [disclaimer: i haven't read any of this thread, minus ty's first post] Nope, not high-def. But assuming you actually get the rebate, that appears to be a good price and $5 shipping for something like that is amazing...I'd be afraid it would wind up at my place in pieces.
  12. *bows* I literally stumbled on that. I asked my friend, he said he'd look but said very similar things -- You want to be in the $1500-$2000 range to get good, reliable hardware, and that's the bottom of that area. He did say there was likely stuff in the $1000 range, but he didn't know of any and you're probably trading things like lamp life, brightness, sharpness/focus (optics can get expensive), accurate projection geometry, noise (they can be loud) and inputs/signal flexibility, but if you have good source components that tie in with your inputs, a real dark room and commensurate expectations you can probably do alright. Keep in mind, that's what I remember from what he said. I'm going over to give the electrical a test-run on Saturday and do some drywall, I'll let him know of the projector that's the current topic and I'm sure he'd be glad to weigh in on it by then.
  13. I checked that out at Newegg, followed the Manufacturer's Page link, and booya! http://www.mitsubishi-presentations.com/pr...rs/HD1000u.html Yours now for "employee pricing", $995.
  14. I'll ask my friend what he can recommend in that range. Surely it won't be top-of-the-line, as so subtly hinted here, but from each according to his ability, to each according to his budget. You will of course be considering proper screen/projection surface and an undoubted myriad of other incidental expenditures as well.
  15. I'm actually helping a friend build out a dedicated home theatre right now, and I'm going over to his place after work to rough-in some wiring. I'll be glad to ask him for ya. He follows this stuff pretty closely and has been using projectors for years, so I know he'll have ideas.
  16. W00t! Time to dust off my Steam account and join the fracas!
  17. Okay, that's kind of what I remembered: Sylar killed her, then Hiro went back in time to prevent her from dying but she had a fatal condition which killed her anyway. So, in the end if I recall, Sylar did not kill her and it isn't much speculation to say he never did get her power.
  18. As far as cost goes, I don't know about your area but I can't get anything resembling a decent price, plus I pay for installation and a modem, if I don't sign on for a year with DSL. I do get a month to say I don't like it and cancel no-questions-asked if the modem is returned (though I think you eat the installation, I'm not sure). However, with cable here I'm not locked in and can cancel any time.
  19. I can't remember what happened to the waitress Hiro was trying to save...Does Sylar have her power?
  20. Man, if only my cable were that reliable. I had DSL for two years, and it was only down once for a few hours in all the times I tried it. It had amazing reliability, low ping to pretty much any domestic location and great bandwidth all the time. That of course might be due to the fact that I'm in a relatively new house and it's close to the CO the way the pipe runs. But the phone company is one of those "rural carriers" and they charged an arm and a leg. I switched to cable, and that was a huge mistake: Frequent service outages, service "blinks", occasional horrible latency issues and varying bandwidth. Now their customer service has always been very responsive to any issues I have, and I've always gotten prorated credits whenever I have called, but that's no excuse for being on the phone several times to the tune of an hour or two every other month. I guess YMMV. I'm also with Charter Communications, FWIW.
  21. Those are some stiff requirements. When you say "if it includes Vista", do you require an operating system? Does it have to be Microsoft? Because getting a blank/Linux machine should be doable with those requirements.
  22. I know someone at KSU, though they're not contributing to that number...at least, I'm pretty sure. I'm no supporter of illegal downloading myself, and copyright law exists regardless of opinion on the practice, but that puts forth the question, what constitutes a successful punishment for a given crime? Do all crimes get the same punishment? Are some crimes worse than others, warranting more severe punishment? Must the severity of crime and punishment line up? The RIAA wants to defend its copyright, which it is entitled to by law. Fine. Good, in fact. The damages they seek seem way out of line, though. Of course, I guess that's a different issue altogether. Cool, students (who are traditionally poor and at the shallow end of the pay scale) are not paying for music. Sounds like the audio tape all over again... Honey, I made you a mix iPod shuffle.
