spiralstairs September 22, 2004 Share spiralstairs Member September 22, 2004 (edited) I guess it is a lil outta the ordinary but I love jambalaya. There is something just sorta magical about cooking up a big pot of the stuff, slow cooking it all day (if anyone knows what I mean by this). I dont know the recipe off hand but I know it involves lots of shrimp and sausage. Also, jerk chicken. I am also known to spontaneously combine many divergent ingredients and come up with something good. gOOters September 22, 2004 Share gOOters Member September 22, 2004 lush <{POST_SNAPBACK}> spiral, I like Jumbalaya too. I tried to make it a couple of weeks ago and it turned out awful. The rice didnt cook. It was the recipe's fault, I followed it to a "T". Anyhow, I cranked up the oven and let it get hotter and cooked it until the rice was soft, but by then all the broth was dried up. Oh well, I might try it agian. Meanwhile, there went about $30 worth of sausage, shrimp and chicken

Here's my recipe, The Colonial Flip: Back in Colonial days tavern keepers would concoct all sorts of mixes, some were ghastly. One of the more revered ones was the Flip, a favourite of New Englanders back in the 1700's. Ingredients: An Imperial Pint (20 oz) of strong beer (a barleywine would be nice, but anything 8% alcohol by volume or higher will do) 2 tablespoons of sugar, unrefined 1 tablespoon of molasses 2 tablespoons of dried pumpkin, finely ground 1 measure of New England rum Direction & Notes: Get yourself a metal or earthen mug (32oz or larger to allow for overflow from heating) and pour the strong beer into it. Mix in the sugar, molasses and dried pumpkin, blend well. You'll need a fireplace or wood burning stove for this next part ... heat up a loggerhead (an iron poker will do) and stick the red hot end into the liquid for a brief moment. Add the rum and enjoy! gOOters September 22, 2004 Share gOOters Member September 22, 2004 I've heard of the flip SN. I have never brought myself to go to the trouble of doing it though. If ever we hang out, you need to make me one of those!
Magruter September 22, 2004 Share Magruter Member September 22, 2004 Speaking of tomatoes: Half some baby tomatoes (not cherry) Place cut side up on cookie sheet or broiling sheet(you can use your toaster oven if you like.) pour a little paul newman's balsamic over (that's my favorite) top with parm cheese cook at 350 for ~15 minutes, when they start to shrink alittle, blast the top with the broiler!! Now that's good eats.

Scoop out of shell and enjoy.

Magruter September 22, 2004 Share Magruter Member September 22, 2004 they do have to be halved for the juice factor. Roma's might work if you cut then lengthwise. And goot you will thank me tomorrow if you make those today. it's like candy!

gOOters September 22, 2004 Share gOOters Member September 22, 2004 Here's a quick and somewhat healthy recipe. Heat a cup of olive oil on low on your stovetop. Mince several cloves of garlic into the oil and sautee it for a couple mins (be careful not to burn the garlic). Dump the oil in a bowl In another bowl, mix "Italian Style" bread crumbs (you can buy them like that) and some parmegian. Dredge boneless skinless chicken breasts in the garlicky oil and then coat heavily with the bread crumbs. Place on a pan and bake for about 30 minutes at 375 degrees. SheepNutz September 22, 2004 Share SheepNutz Member September 22, 2004 You all are leaving out one key step to eating Ramen Noodles. After cooking, you must drain off all water before adding the flavoring packet and just a dab of butter to the strained noodes. Mix and enjoy.
