[DLM]->HighPlainsDrifter July 26, 2005 Share [DLM]->HighPlainsDrifter Member July 26, 2005 (edited) Swearing leads to team wounding Team wounding leads to team killing Team killing leads to banning This cycle leads to hurt feelings and loss of players on your servers This cycle is also not good for the growth of a community, which needs a constant influx of new, postive people to stay alive. This cycle is what will be happening if the admins had to explain to people over and over and over why they couldnt swear. Plus it wastes everyone's time on the servers because: 1. the admin is busy a. admin wont catch other problems brewing, (like hackers) b. admin wont have any fun because they are constantly typing and not playing 2. the explanation radio traffic will disrupt any teamwork oriented traffic 3. other people that might otherwise be playing will be typing trying to help 4. All the positive energy that is constantly generated on the servers will be sucked into one person's rant like a black hole because the normal positive congrats for a nice shot and other things will be lost in all the typing and radio traffic Sooooo......isnt it so much easier to just nip this whole, big mess in the bud and just do two things, 1. Tell everyone not to swear, and 2. Kick the people who do swear. Trust me, I've been in DLM for what seems like forever, (translation, since before CS came out), and Mmmm was around back then. I've also seen lots of clans come and go, but you know what? Mmmm has found a way to survive and also found a way so that all involved clans can grow through the Gamer's Coaltiion. Its very difficult and time consuming to run a good server that you can get people to come to day after day, and have a good group of admins to keep the peace. GC deserves a heap of credit for pulling it off. You have to also look at the GC servers as not just a server to go and shoot some people on, because that is only 10% of what their servers do. GC servers serve to bring together people who might never meet and make friends of them. GC servers create a tight network of people who will help each other out in real life if needed. GC servers allow an 80 person LAN party at a hotel over 3 days to be a great time and reunion for old and new friends. GC servers allow for parents to feel good about their kids playing games online, knowing that there is parental supervision, team building skills, and posiitive motivation there, not just mindless violence. In short, GC servers are HOME to many of its players. If they allow you into their home, is it too much to ask of you to not swear? I dont think so. Now I know, thanx to my degree in physics, that some of the things that happen in this great game are bull. Take for instance the m4. All of us that were in the military know that if you stand 10 feet from someone with this weapon. aim and unload at full auto they die. In cs you can miss completely. P90 or c90 in real life, is designed to penetrate level 3 body armor at 100 yards but not sheetrock in walls. Why doesnt the 50 cal Deagle do the damage its supposed to? And why cant valve add new weapons to an already great game like a 44 mag revolver and a few new rifles? We have the SAW(m249) already how about an M60? maybe we need to petition valve to do some updates? I think what makes a lot of gamers angry is the fact that some other gamers are just good at the game and dont expect real world physics to be correct like when you unload at full auto with your ak at 5 feet and nothing, then they pop you once with a glock and dead. But thats just me, every game cant be perfect as we all know. But if issues like this are adressed many wont be so tinkled. And oh by the way, the AK 47 .308 round doesnt penetrate level 3 govt issue body armor at more than 50 feet. I know this because in Desert Storm we tested this one day when we were bored. Preacher August 5, 2005 Share Preacher Member August 5, 2005 As a recent gc member I can tell you that the whole reason I play here and allow my kids to play here is because of the no swearing/porn spray policy. Ever since I started playing games on my Atari 2600 back in the early 80's I have been shooting people,aliens, cowboys, evil monkeys or some other thing. When I kill a CT or Terrorist I have no malice in my heart towards them. Most are my friends here. The blood adds to a more movielike enjoyment. I let my kids play becasue the association between cartoon violence and real violence only exists when the parents of those violent kids fail to do thier job. I am pastor of a church and father to my kids. I understand the simple question why violence and not profanity, but what the real question is, is why can't you do what you want where you want. To call this an intelligent argument is stretching the term intelligent way too far. The better question is "Why don't you allow swearing here?" and we can simply reply because it may offend some of our regulars. We cater to those who pay the bills and when you send in your $50 to be part of the .gc we'll accept your arguments to why we should change our policies.
