CPU/MoBo Suggestions?

Well, I am going to reformat today, and see if that will let me limp along for a few more months.

However, my current system (AMD 2600+, 1GB RAM, 9800Pro) doesnt seem to be cutting it any more? Ive been told it is my CPU.

When I get in a firefight or on a texture heavy map with alot of other people, my FPS goes single digit and everything acts all laggy, reguardless of my latency.

Does a new CPU sound in order?

Any suggestions on which? MoBo? I am not building for a bigger tomorrow, I just want to be able to handily play CS:S. I will not be upgrading my vid card for a little while yet...

thanks for the suggestions the other day Nor...

TIA!

I'm assuming your 9800 is AGP. If thats the case your only going

to have to upgrade again later anyway. Although its 754 socket,

this is one I've been looking at & would give you a tremendous boost

compared to what you have. Asus K8V SE Deluxe & AMD Athlonâ„¢ 64 3700+ Processor I have that mobo with a 3400+ cpu & I can cut

through any fire fight.

Newegg still has that free mobo with the A64 3700 clawhammer.. Here is the link to that.. NewEgg Oh you have to pick the mobo at the bottom to get it free, so its like $205 for both.. Not bad..

Oh and you have to buy the HS/Fan too, dont forget..

I got that deal at Newegg with a large Zalman copper HS + Fan, came out to about 235 all in.

Upgraded from a 3.06GHz P4 to the 3700+ and have seen a 50% increase in my FPS across CS:S, COD2, BF2 etc.

Yeah, so it's getting fazed out, but that's what you get for the price, and I didn't fancy having to bin (donate to my wife) my 6 month old AGP 6800GT.

Very pleased with the results (if it did take me a while to work out why the onboard Ethernet wasn't working, installing drivers would have helped obviously).

Dude if you are going to go ahead and purchase a new MB and CPU, my suggestion would be to go ahead and dump a few extra bucks more on the PCI express. You can pick up a cheap video card for around $50 link below.

This will be a performance hit on your graphics, but will provide the option for major upgrades.

Eventually upgrade to a duel core CPU and duel SLI Video cards.

Try selling the 9800 and your old MB/CPU and buying one of these: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16814130258
