[Magruter]

Well my laptop is running like junk... Super slow restarts lags when i type. I think i have something. My computer tried attacking it's self today. (bla trojan) was the name of it. But i ran avg and norton and found nothing. Then ran hijackthis and have no clue what anything is. Anyone understand this stuff?

Basically you're just looking to be able to identify what everything on there is. A quick look through it seems to me like you've got Norton/Symantec, AVG, a ton of HP stuff, maybe a Logitech webcam or something, LightScribe (never heard of it), some Synaptics thing (touchpad I guess), MSN messenger, Trillian, and Firefox.

 

I'm skeptical of this guy:

It might just be time for a reformat. Looks like you're currently running somewhere in the area of 40 processes, which might be slowing the machine down right there.

The one at work has the same issues, but it also has issues with iexplore randomly crashing .... when internet explorer isn't running. I had to purge the comp of a fair bit of spyware when i got started too. I've run norton(some corporate edition), spybot, and adaware. It's clean, but something still ins't right.

I'm out of ideas.

There are some free online analysis sites for HJT. Just paste the contents of your logfile into the text box, hit a button, and get the results.

Did you do a spyware scan? My lappy had the same problem, so i did a spyware/adware scan with AdAware, spy doctor, and microsoft afound a total of over 400 infections. It could be that.

AHHHH norton! run!!

Norton always slows me down. It eats up all sorts of memory. Trust me all you need is AVG and spyware doctor.

 

Type msconfig into your "run" and start taking things off that are not a necessity. If you need it then it will start back up when you want to open a program.

usually, when I want to find out what a process is, I just go to Google and type in the whole name like someprogram.exe and I have never failed to find a site (usually the top site is liutilities.com) that fully explains what it is.
