Looking to buy some audio stuff.

I'm looking to buy a NEW sound card and some worthwhile headphones.

Right now I have my brothers old OLD Sound Blaster PCI 512 which Creative released some drivers to make it work in XP but there's still plenty of problems with it in games, before that I had my Sound Blaster PCI 128, that was even worse.

I need to find a sound card that has fancy stuff like EAX (2.0? I don't even know what they are upto now adays) but I don't some Audigy Double Platinum with Remote and face panel sound card. I just need something that is fairly new. I'll use an analogy here, if the Audigy high level platnium Creative Labs card is the X1800, I want the X1300. Still has nice features, is much cheaper but doesn't sound as nice.

For headphones right now I'm using a 21 dollar Altec Lansing headset. I had some 30 dollar Sony headphones with fancy padding but those kind of broke.

I need some that will sound nice but once again, I don't need 100 dollar Sennheiser super space age plastic headphones, just something that will be reasonable with the sound card. I would really like headphones that have something like 5.1 or 7.1, simply because I've never owned anything with them, I'm willing to spend a little extra for it. It doesn't matter if these are with a mic or not.

I would pefer them to be equal quality. I think it's pointless to have really good headphones and a crummy sound card or a super sound card and crummy headphones.

I'm looking to spend around 100 dollars for both, combined.

I also cannot stress enough that I DON'T WANT SPEAKERS. I need headphones and NOTHING WIRELESS.

Thanks!

those headphones are not 5.1 or 7.1 but the sound quality is incredible and they are very comfortable. Open air deal is very nice and keeps your ears from getting all sweaty.

note: 5.1/7.1 headphones that are of any quality at all push your price over $100.

I spent around $30 on my Creative SB Live! 5.1 and I've been pleased with it. Sounds fine to me, has EAX (no idea what version) and has jacks for mic, line in, 2x line out, and digital out. Never had any software problems with it on Win98 or Win2K, XP should be no different.

Well I have the HD-212 pros and they are pretty much the same casing as the HD-202s and after a while of wearing them my ears start to hurt. The HD-201s cover your whole ear I believe.

I also read somewhere that the 202s can hurt your ears after wearing them for a while, if you have big ears. Its up to you though...

Something came up today and I am out 40 bucks. So I'm down to only being able to spend 60. :boo:

I think I'm leaning towards:

Now that the money I can spend was slashed I don't know which sound card to get.

I do really like those headphones though. It has a single wire from the headset and has a control for volume on the wire.

I use, Sony MDR-EX71 and Shure e2c.

I like comfortable sound isolation buds with a little more oomph in the bass. These let you hear alot more at low volumes so you don't go deaf.

The Shure e3c, Etymotic ER-6i, Super Fi. 5 don't have the heavy bass I like, but dominate mid and high range.

Earmuff style bothers me after 5 minutes. Canal type, you don't even know your wearing them.

Open air is Great! I have Logitech Precision PC Gaming and offer great sound for the price. Since they are behind-the-head, I had to retire them after I got a high back office chair. Switched to Plantronics .Audio 110 (~$35) which are also open-air design. 5 months of heavy use and no problems. Hard to find .Audio 110 now tho, maybe ebay.
