it's fair to assume most of us call .gc servers home. never leaving the calm waters of gc, it's easy to forget that we're not the norm. people are used to unadminned, let it fly kind of servers. when they come here, whether we like it or not, people breeze by the motd, don't bother to read the rules, and can't believe that 0MG is filtered.

 

from our perspective, it's pretty easy to get annoyed by these guys. they're in here every day, and we've got to babysit em. well, how'd you find .gc? was it because some jerk was laying into you about our rules? or was it because our servers are full of fun people with good character?

 

big thumbs up to solitude (and the other unnamed guys like him). it's attitudes like this that make gc fun for us, and fun for future gc'ers.

Nice job, Solitude! It's great to see people playing out the vision.

 

SJ brings up a great point. So many times we kinda coast along instead of fostering exactly what brought us here to begin with.

 

Good machines and networks are one thing, but the people are what make our servers stand out. Let's catch some more people being great hosts!

Please and Thanks do not always work, but sometimes they do. I asked a guy last night to 'please' change his name, so he added "Censored" where the 'bad word was.' That time it worked.

I used to say stuff like that before I joined GC. I remember the admin just yelling at me . But I always try to look out and see what the non GC people do in our servers, if I find something and no admin are on the server I go into TS and see if someone's on and if no I PM.

Threatening someone that they will be banned when you aren't an admin will often make the situation worse. If they continue and aren't immediately banned you've just told them they can do whatever they want right now and nothing will happen. They won't care about later, they probably won't even try to connect to the server after doing everything they can to drive you nuts.

 

It's much better to do what John said.

After 3 days in LA, I checked the forum and this. Well I'm just trying to uphold the "GC" way. It's good to know that even though I'm way over here, I'm contributing in making our servers a fun server.

Thanks again for letting me join "GC"... now back to unpacking hehe
