Asphyxiator March 21, 2003 Share Asphyxiator Member March 21, 2003 There is a difference between a hub and a switch. A hub is literally dumb and works at layer 1 of the OSI model (aka the physical layer). The switch operates at layer 2 and has logic chips that determine where packets go depending on the Media access control address of your nics. Hubs *increase your collision domain, while switches *decrease your collision domain. Moral of the story...Stay away from hubs!
