akaM2 April 15, 2008 Author Share akaM2 Member April 15, 2008 In reality its not that much cheaper, someone posted a good point on digg The base price on the OpenMac is $400 + Leapord installed $155 = 555 (already in mac mini territory) Then add: Firewire - $16 USB Remote - $30 Wireless Card - $15 Bluetooth Adapter - $10 iLife '08 - $74.00 Your then at 700, which is more than a mini, yes a bit better specs but the open mac can possibly be shutdown with an update blocking out whatever they are exploiting
Allanon April 15, 2008 Share Allanon Member April 15, 2008 Yah I posted before I actually went ot the site... I figured it was just people modding computers and installing macs... not selling macs with slightly different hardware.
boiler April 15, 2008 Share boiler Member April 15, 2008 oooo, the "pro" versions come in the Antec P180 series cases. Nice! I agree though, I can't see this lasting too terribly long unless they've found some loophole in the Leopard licensing agreement or something. Playaa April 15, 2008 Share Playaa Member April 15, 2008 The loophole is that they probably aren't doing the installing of Leopard themselves. Technically building and advertising a pc capable of running Leopard is not illegal.
boiler April 15, 2008 Share boiler Member April 15, 2008 (edited) The loophole is that they probably aren't doing the installing of Leopard themselves. Technically building and advertising a pc capable of running Leopard is not illegal. they are offering to install it for you though, with a full retail boxed media of Leopard. You CAN buy the hardware alone, but they still are advertising to pre-install the software for you. Edited April 15, 2008 by boilersax

Hell it still beats the 20inch iMac!
anonymo April 17, 2008 Share anonymo Member April 17, 2008 It's fake. Psystar is a fake company and doesn't even have the rights to use EFI emulator for OSx86.
