In reality its not that much cheaper, someone posted a good point on digg

The base price on the OpenMac is $400 + Leapord installed $155 = 555 (already in mac mini territory)

Then add:

Firewire - $16

USB Remote - $30

Wireless Card - $15

Bluetooth Adapter - $10

iLife '08 - $74.00

Your then at 700, which is more than a mini, yes a bit better specs but the open mac can possibly be shutdown with an update blocking out whatever they are exploiting

oooo, the "pro" versions come in the Antec P180 series cases. Nice!

I agree though, I can't see this lasting too terribly long unless they've found some loophole in the Leopard licensing agreement or something.

The loophole is that they probably aren't doing the installing of Leopard themselves. Technically building and advertising a pc capable of running Leopard is not illegal.

they are offering to install it for you though, with a full retail boxed media of Leopard. You CAN buy the hardware alone, but they still are advertising to pre-install the software for you.

The fully upgraded OpenMac is still $5 cheaper than a macmini and has

C2D 2.6 > 2.0

400gb > 160gb

8600GT > GMA 950

3 x firewire > 1 x firewire

Wireless NIC, BT and the USB remote top it out, but barely and considering you can't upgrade the macmini...well...you know what I think about people who buy Apple hardware. Hell it still beats the 20inch iMac!
