anonymo September 10, 2008 Share anonymo Member September 10, 2008 So here's a thread all about Fallout 3 which I assume will be talked about more than enough that it will eventually need its own forum. Anyways, I already have a huge gripe with Bethesda and the Australian government. http://kotaku.com/5047637/fallout-3-kicks-...an-intervention Thanks Australia, way to censor stuff and ruin it for everyone. I was so looking forward to shooting up and killing people, now I just have to settle for killing people. What is the world coming to?
boiler September 10, 2008 Share boiler Member September 10, 2008 (edited) Don't worry, you will still be able to shoot up and kill people, they just won't be "real world" drugs like coke, meth, etc. The ORIGIN of this news is old'd'd, but they hadn't specified at the time that ALL versions would see the edit. I am of the understanding that drugs will still be involved, just make believe ones that no one has ever heard of. On a different note: I'm starting to take more than a passing interest in this game. For which platform are you going to get it? Do I REALLY have to play Oblivion before I consider playing this? I haven't seen or played a minute of either of the previous two Fallouts, but after the massive WIN that was Mass Effect, I'm suddenly much more interested in RPGs (western that is) than I ever was. *it will probably need it's own forum. Kinda like AoC did, right? Edited September 10, 2008 by boilersax
anonymo September 10, 2008 Author Share anonymo Member September 10, 2008 I know they're leaving the drugs in, I just think it's incredibly unintelligent to rename them, it makes no difference plus this whole practice of censoring mature games on the assumption that parents aren't able to control their children just DRIVES ME INSANE!!!1 Yes, you will love this game. Oblivion is very action oriented so I highly recommend picking up a used copy for the 360 if you can. Yes I will be getting it for the 360, must have couch access for this one. Probably end up getting it on PC later if good mods surface for it.

It's asinine that the Australian government feels the need to regulate everyone's lives and do the parenting for them. If I get Fallout, it will definitely be on my 360. In the mean time I'll poke around for a copy of Oblivion. I'm gonna have to sell a few of my old games though to appease the wife - I got a major eye roll when I bought Too Human and Tiger Woods 09 (for Wii) within two weeks of each other. That's a pretty risky procedure imho.
boiler September 15, 2008 Share boiler Member September 15, 2008 I downloaded the 5 gameplay videos off Live this weekend and watched all of them. My conclusion: Want. Right Nao. If you've been following it for a while it won't be anything quite earth-shattering, but it does highlight some specifics on how to use the in-game interfaces and how quickly the VATS system can be used. Recommended viewing for anyone remotely interested in this game.
Leveller September 15, 2008 Share Leveller Member September 15, 2008 (edited) I pre-ordered it about 5 minutes after I watched the gameplay videos last weekend. This is a game I'm really looking forward to, oh and Too Human has far exceeded my expectations... Edited September 15, 2008 by Leveller
boiler September 15, 2008 Share boiler Member September 15, 2008 oh and Too Human has far exceeded my expectations... I wish more people with low expectations would give Too Human an honest try. I finished a second playthrough with my Beserker (lvl 46-ish) and another with a Commando. I think I need to put out an ad to get some co-op going: Single Level 30 Commando with epic plasma cannon of 1337 destructiveness seeking single mature Beserker for goblin and polarity-troll-busting goodness. I could also co-op with my Beserker, but I think of the few here who picked up TH, most if not all chose Beserker already
Leveller September 15, 2008 Share Leveller Member September 15, 2008 I've got a level 48 Berserker, I've also got a Defender, Commando and Bio-Engineer in the works all at different levels, but haven't finished a play through with any of them. I'd actually agree with you about more people playing it, I did get Too Human on release date and have persuaded a buddy to get it, he was really not convinced after reading a load of the reviews but is now hooked. boiler September 23, 2008 Share boiler Member September 23, 2008 IGN is having a week-long Fallout 3 preview fest! The first installment is a look at some of the weapons. Enjoy! (October 28th can't get here soon enough...)

VooDooPC September 25, 2008 Share VooDooPC Member September 25, 2008 (edited) They certainly have been quiet about melee weapons. I wonder if they aren't showing videos of them because they think it looks just like Oblivion. Edited September 25, 2008 by VooDooPC
boiler September 25, 2008 Share boiler Member September 25, 2008 The gameplay videos available on xbox live highlight the "power fist" quite spectacularly, in my opinion. From the sound of it, you can pick up most anything in the environment and turn it into a melee weapon. Build a "Rock-It Launcher" and you can kill people by firing teddy bears at their heads. Won't see THAT in Oblivion!
VooDooPC September 25, 2008 Share VooDooPC Member September 25, 2008 Are the Xbox live videos on the internet somewhere? I haven't seen them.
boiler September 25, 2008 Share boiler Member September 25, 2008 (edited) Most of them are available on IGN. The specific ones I was referring to are the ones posted on Aug 29. The correct order in which to view them is: 1. Escape 2. Megaton 3. The Wasteland 4. Super Duper Mart There is a fifth one that finishes the Megaton quest that is picked up during the demo, but IGN doesn't seem to have it. The Super Duper Mart video is the one with the power fist. None of them really "highlight" melee weapons though. It seems like the overwhelming majority of combat will be gun/projectile based (unless you're a masochist or something). ** The weapons featurette video might have more on melee options, but I haven't watched it yet ** nevermind, the weapons video doesn't show melee stuff... VooDooPC September 26, 2008 Share VooDooPC Member September 26, 2008 Yeah, I've watched those and they do concentrate much more on guns. I guess I will just have to buy the game and make my own melee character.

boiler September 29, 2008 Share boiler Member September 29, 2008 That just reminded me that I haven't pre-ordered my copy yet On a side note, I was considering picking up the first two Fallouts since I haven't played either of them, but I'm not sure if I'd like them or not. That and it seems I'll have to ebay it or find someone selling used copies to actually get my hands on it.
Tracid September 29, 2008 Share Tracid Member September 29, 2008 (edited) Fallout 1 & 2 never had real world drug names either. There is one thing I want in Fallout 3 I hope they'll keep. boiler September 30, 2008 Share boiler Member September 30, 2008 ugh, Fallout 1 is free, but it's asking for me to install a client program first, at which I have balked for now. I hate client programs (steam being only a very luke-warm exception) like that. Does that mean I will be running the game through their site every time, or will it all be installed locally on my computer? If it's going to be too much hassle, I may not bother. Fallout 2 is only available to "gold-level" members. Seeing as how I haven't played Oblivion at all (which I was told needed to be done in order to receive my keys to Fallout 3) and I have pre-ordered Fallout 3 anyway, I may just take my chances and dive right into Fallout

You might get bored and frustrated before you start having a good time. I often install one of them, play for a few hours then wonder why I'm doing it all over again. boiler October 1, 2008 Share boiler Member October 1, 2008 I might just forget about it then. I may pick up CS again this month or something until the 28th. On another note, here's another hands-on preview with some more exploration and slightly more details on melee weapons.
