A little more then you want, but for what you get.....

I have one, and love it to death. Watched Super Bowl, NCAA, Movies, PS3 Bluray/Games, everything is in great color (I have calibrated it a little, so its not stock) and looks crisp as anything that cost thousands more.

Noticed this is open box.. if that matters to you or not. There is a new version:

That has "better contrast" then the one I have, which I don't think you will notice.

I have no idea how well the picture looks but I've have a Panasonic Viera 50" plasma for almost 3 years and I love it. It's only 720p but movies and the newer HD cable shows just look fabulous.

Get plasma, 600Hz! http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16889187115

OK, I don't know what 600 Hz Sub-field Drive means.

While I would also recommend plasmas, you're not getting one worth the money for under $1000 (you're not getting one under $2500 for that matter)

I would recommend any LCD from Sony/Samsung (same panels as they share manufacturing) or Sharp with Sharp probably being the cheapest usually. Cheapest in this sense though does mean less features, like PiP but that's about all you're missing.

If you can grab Norgman's recommendation, great TV.

Side Note: ignore plasmas with high refresh rates as they don't suffer from motion blur at lower refresh rates the same way LCDs do (most plasmas are considered 240hz and above when it's actually listed)

Sharp is the brand I purchased back at tax time. 120hz 52-inches and it was only 1400 bucks when I got it. You should be able to find a 40-42 inch for less than that. My local cable company has 1080i HD and the image quality is simply amazing on shows like Lost. You can see the actors' pores.

when it comes to LCDs, does Hz even matter? i thought it was always ms that matters; can somebody explain?

It doesn't matter with plasmas as their display method differs from LCDs in a way that doesn't cause the motion blur associated with LCDs.

Motion Blur (thanks to Ruff_Ryder for the good link)

Good motion blur read. That's exactly why I ditched my last lcd (22" Asus) and went back to CRT for computer gaming. I can't handle the blur. And while I've never noticed any blurring watching a movie on my plasma, if I concentrate on the pointer and move it real fast I can see some playing my Wii.

how come when i buy LCD computer monitors, they do not advertise the refresh rate, but just the response time?

You will have to keep tabs on Twitter basically. You will not receive any email but if you keep up with your Twitter feed while following the Dell Outlet, you will receive notices of new deals.
