NOFX February 12, 2004 Share NOFX Member February 12, 2004 a few things 1. www.newegg.com 2. I believe that motherboard comes with onboard LAN and onbaord sound, and yes onboard sound has an affect on something. Dont know exactly how much it affects it but check out. This thread 3. And you definetly need thermal paste and a Heatsink.

bullet-401 February 12, 2004 Share bullet-401 Member February 12, 2004 Well if you get the retail 2500+ barton it comes with a heatsink and paste. I use stock and it works well with mine.
flux February 12, 2004 Share flux Member February 12, 2004 (edited) I may sound like an idiot, but what is a heatsink? Is that a fan of some sort for the cpu or what? **EDITE** Another thing, can someone tell me where I can get a cheap fan that works great and is super quiet? I have a Pentium 4 so a Socket 478. Thanks! Edited February 12, 2004 by i <3 Angelina Jolie
All Kill3r February 12, 2004 Share All Kill3r Member February 12, 2004 (edited) Looks like a nice pc your building there lazarus. show some benches when your done ^^^heatsink. its the chunk of aluminum or copper that sits on top of your cpu to disperse the heat, without one your cpu is toast REAL quick. A fan is also screwed onto the top of the heatsink to blow air over it to add additional heat dispersion. As for your cpu, if you got retail then a heatsink and fan came with it and should do the job nicely and quitely unless your going to be overclocking. I would guess your not though if you asked what a heatsink is. I use this heatsink fan . can buy it here - http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc....y=BROWSE&depa=1 Edited February 12, 2004 by All Kill3r

All Kill3r February 12, 2004 Share All Kill3r Member February 12, 2004 some thermal paste to go between the cpu and heatsink. Can pick it up from newegg also. Thermal goo. This and a heatsink and fan and yes you may very well be chillin' like a villan
Playaa February 12, 2004 Share Playaa Member February 12, 2004 don't forget thermal paste...Artic Silver is the bestest. and if you want to get a better heatsink/fan than the stock one buy any ThermalTake Volcano series...above 9 is the best but even a 7 is a good one. Birdman February 12, 2004 Share Birdman Member February 12, 2004 Didnt you get a retail processor? if so it will come with everything you need, including directions for installation. "without one your cpu is toast REAL quick." Not with a newer p4 or amd. Some older amd processors will though.
