  1. Just got my shipping notification from Apple. My iMac is or is soon to be on a boat ride from Shanghai. I'm pretty geeked. Just need to lay hands on a copy of Win7. BTW, I'm surprised this didn't spark any Mac/PC commentary! I expected a few comments about what a mistake I'm making. Of the two ppl I've told IRL about this purchase, 50% have been critical. The negative commenter even said I'd be hindering my children in their future workplace by not having them use Windows. Heh. Oh, and the joke about mac being a cancer: I bought an iPhone last year. Now the iMac. And next year, I hope to replace my soon to be 4 year old laptop with a 17" macbook pro. I'm just waiting to see if Arrandale hits the MBP line in the spring. I've been waiting for the new iMac and it's soon to be had bootcamp with win7 to buy some new games (l4d2 and a couple of others). Should make Christmas break fun. Cheers, CEM/SS
  2. I just now ordered a new computer for the family. It will be, apart from a few stocking stuffers, the family Christmas gift this year. I chose the new iMac. 27", 2.8GHz i7, 1TB, 4GB, ATI 4850. I'm excited. Hopefully the kids will enjoy it. They will for sure get lots of use out of it. I'll likely Bootcamp it with Windows 7 for games and certain work related software, though I intend to run OS X as the primary OS. For the family computer, I've been considering an All-in-One from various makers for some time. Never found one that I liked. These new iMacs swayed me. Can update after it arrives, if anyone is interested. SS/CEM
  3. A lot of PS3 games are only 720p... so unless you have a game that claims 1080 output, you are getting what you should. Yeah, the screen is BEAUTIFUL. Not necessarily better than the 40XBR4 it replaced at my home in terms of PQ, but beautiful nonetheless. Look up "flashlighting" and "dark corners" and you can see you have any screen issues. Not something you see in every instance. Mostly in all black or all white scenes. SS
  4. Yeah. "Pants-free" viewing is the bestest. I was hoping you'd pop in to this thread Mo. You know much about these screens? I've been reading up and there are a few issues with this model. They seem to be addressable, however.
  5. Decided to upgrade my Living Room TV. Moved up to a 55" Samsung. It's one of the new LED side-light TV's. So far it is nice, but I'm still in evaluate mode. I went into BB to pick up the 52" Sony XBR9. It was ridiculous on sale. Like 1200 off the "regular" price. I'd been shopping this TV for the better part of a year, and felt it was time to buy, with the price and 3-years no interest. But then I saw this set and had to make a decision. The image is good, but I'm checking on some image issues some users have complained about. I'll wait until I've spent a few days with the set before I finalize my opinion. One cool thing is that I did hook up my laptop on the screen and play a little CS:S at 55". It was fun, but not really any better than playing on the monitor. It was the easiest time I've ever had hooking up to a compy to a TV. I had an DVI-HDMI cable in the basement, for some reason, and it all hooked up and synced nicely. This wasn't true with all panels 2 years ago or more.
  6. Hey, I LIKE caffeine free diet coke.
  7. You gonna get the mono versions when they come out? http://gizmodo.com/5216258/sorry-stereo-bu...ocks-a-lot-more Must admit, I'm curious.
  8. So I feel the forums have been a bit, well, slow lately. So, I wanted to start a music thread. This is pretty wide open to your own input... but to start it off: Here is an album I recently resurrected into my rotation: You can read about it here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Live_After_Death It's probably the single best snapshot of what Iron Maiden was in the first half of the '80s: One of the BEST rock bands of the decade. I've always felt it was a bit of a shame that they get tossed around as sort of a poster child for brainless heavy metal. Under all the slightly silly Dungeons & Dragons imagery you have VERY talented musicians playing some VERY well written material. Their first 5 albums (where the material on this album comes from) in particular shows how good heavier rock music can be. Notice I don't call this "heavy metal". I'm with Lemmy on this one: "It's all rock & roll." Also, as an example of a live recording, this is just masterful. Sound quality is amazing (recording and mix) and the musicians are at their peak. The only other live albums I personally own that come close are from the Allman Brothers (At Fillmore East and One Way Out). Discuss.
  9. http://gizmodo.com/5229386/worlds-first-po...affeine-addicts You can read the various blogs for comments about potential advantages/disadvantages. Bottom line for me... IF it works and IF consumables are not too expensive/hard to get... I got hooked on espresso last year. Plus, when I go camping, and everyone else is drinking their perc-ed campfire coffee, I could be throwing back double shots of liquid heaven...
  10. What are you going to do next, the "flapping dickie?"
  11. I was watching this video, then BAM! ITS A DUNK!
  12. I thought it was spelled cow-orker
  13. I haven't looked, but I'd say fake, and deliberately corn. "It's time for Watchmen" with a clock face ticking to midnight. pretty good stuff.
  14. lol feel free to flame... I'm in the minority that likes the 3rd movie. I prefer it to the 2nd, but the 1st is still the winner by an order of magnitude. The first one was a great sci-fi/adventure movie that actually kinda made you care about the characters, think maybe just a little, and managed to keep the plot coherent and paradox-free. Plus at the time the special effects were pretty outstanding (I don't know if they held up so great). Plus the idea that the future was controlled by sadistic, heartless killing machines, while not entirely original, played perfectly into my teenage sensibilities. For me, the second movie was always just special effects porn, with a loud obnoxious soundtrack, plot holes, and a truck load of horse hockey about teaching a terminator to luuuuuv. blech. Plus the kid who Played John Conners... oh my. I WANTED him to get killed. Prolly shouldn't make the audience hate your protagonist. The third had a reasonable plot, better fit the nihilistic tone of the original, made Ahnold the good guy in a reasonable way (relative to #2), and brought us up to the robot apocalypse pretty well.
  15. Bizkit to vet: "I don't get it doc, I sleep 18 hours a day, and I still don't feel rested..."
  16. I can't be bothered over the weekend. Plus your "you suck at math" taunt was off putting.
