Bought the Trade this weekend and read it through. Every bit as good as advertised (the comics, obviously haven't seen movie). Am looking forward to movie. I tend to view movies and their sources somewhat independently. Alan Moore has a legitimate criticism of the transference of written works to movies. It is difficult to capture the pacing and level of detail of the written in a movie. Which isn't to say that good source material can't produce both a good graphic novel AND a good movie. LotR is a good example. I'm a huge fan of the books, and have been since I was a kid. Initially I was skeptical of the movies. And as a literal translation of the books the movies would be viewed as somewhat disappointing. But taken as two depictions of some larger mythology, they both are the roXorz.

K. Not knowing what course this is for or the nature of the assignment, I'll just offer the following: Stutters link is on the right path. Your problem involves the arc length of a space curve. In this case, the best way to proceed is to express your (assumed) elliptical arc in parametric form: x(t) = 5*cos(t), y(t)=3*sin(t). Now, form the derivatives x'(t)=dx/dt=5*sin(t) and y'(t)=dy/dt=-3*cos(t). Now, compute the arclength by the definite integral of dt over the range [0,2*Pi]. The integrand for the integral is SQRT[x'^2+y'^2]. This will yield the full perimeter of the ellipse, now divide by 4. Alternately, limit your range to [0,Pi/2]. Problem is, you end up with an Elliptical Integral of the Second Kind. The evaluation of which is an infinite series. Well, drugs designed to manipulate brain activity tend to react differently with different people. It is not uncommon for some patients to try multiple sleep-aids/anti-depressants before finding one which maximizes desired effect over side-effect. I've not really experienced either, mind you. Nor am I a doctor. But in speaking to persons who have been prescribed both this has been mentioned. Also, yeah... filming your very young son tripping bllz may not be illegal, but it certainly is shaky ethical grounds, not that I want to get into that discussion. SS

Not only have I seen that pic before, I once saw that movie. I'm too lazy to look it up but it was her and Dan Ackroyd(?) as cops who go undercover in a sex resort of some sort. And no amount of alcohol or therapy has been able to "bleach" that from my memory.

Ok, I'm usually the first to take a thread into the gutter. Just see my posts in the coffee bean thread... oh wait, you can't since Grandma Stutters went all "the-town-from-Footloose" on my posts and deleted them. At any rate, lost in all this is that this crazy thing might actually work... that is, it might actually be a product of some merit... certainly not one befitting of this high-school-AV-club quality infomercial... just sayin'

My dad passed at 1:43 this morning. He was 67. Today was his birthday. He suffered for years with cryptogenic cirrhosis. New Year's day, experienced severe bleeding into his esophagus. The bleeding was an indirect consequence to his degraded liver function. They were able to stabilize him at that time, and transfer him with University Hospital at the University of Michigan. He remained in unconscious and in the Critical Care Unit there until his death. He was made comfortable at the end, and didn't suffer.

For a minute I thought I was at my AA meeting...

um... yeah... I don't think any of the acts actually sing at teh parade. And stutters... I thought twice about posting. Laugh if you want. But when your 5 year old daughter is dancing along to the (supposed) music acts, it's a pretty fun way to start thanksgiving. So now you may feel like an arse for sh*tting on my happy family moment.

While I was fully aware that Rick Rolling was Old Meme, I still enjoyed the sport of it. I even Rick Rolled my Physics students this year by "acciedentally" posting the "Solutions to Exam 2" the weekend before the exam on the course website. Of course the link was NOT to the exam solutions. But now... As the Cartoon Network float of somesort went across my TV, Rick Astley appeared and started lipsyncing. The announcer even referred to the "Rick Roll Phenomenon" or some nonsense. This is why we can't have nice things...

So my kids and I have been playing through GHIII since this summer. It has it's quirks but we've gotten a lot of fun out of it. I'm a couple of songs from the end of Hard. I seem to struggle with the metal riffs (raining blood, one). I've enjoyed the set list, but I grow weary of it. So I bought World Tour for the kids for Christmas so we'd have new songs to play. I'm kinda disappointed though. It seems WAY easier than GHIII. is this a known thing? Some of the minor interface differences I can live with, and I'll even forgive the Bon Jovi song. But so far after about 5 sets I haven't had to play one 3 note chord. And frankly, the number of notes in certain passages that get left out make the timing sort of hard. I kinda criticized GHIII at first for making the jumps in difficulty SO LARGE. But, once I got used to the next difficulty level, I actually preferred them. Going down in difficulty became tedious. I haven't tried expert on WT yet, but I hope it is more "Hard" than Hard is on WT.
