  1. my 2cents- abandon the warranty criteria. you're going to need to replace the battery and transformer on any laptop > 1yr old (i've seen em go within the first six months). but, if you buy an aftermarket battery and/or transformer (say from best buy), you still get the one year mfg warranty. lastly, more bang for the buck on desktops. i know it's not ideal if you're in the dorms...
  2. it's quiet, soft, and not what i expected. but it is good, and available online. in other music news, the new weezer album is a flaming disappointment.
  3. one of my good friends from back in michigan just celebrated the birth of his first daughter. he's the first in my group of friends, and the rest of us friends are staring at each other with stupid looks for gift ideas. so, elder gc council, any recommendations? what do you get someone who can't play cs yet?
  4. nice. we tried getting hitboxes to register/draw like you posted but i never had luck. this is good info.
  5. /me holds a moment of silence for strange. he's been lost to ROSE, and i fear we may not see him again soon. http://www.roseon.com/
  6. mr fat: you can add multiple aim screen names to one client using trillian. after you complete the installation, follow the wizard to configure your FIRST aim account (you may be able to add multiple during the install, but i verified the following method). allow the program finish the install, then when trillian is running: 1. right click the systray icon, choose "connections" -> "manage my connections" 2. click "add new connection" at the bottom of the window. choose aim. 3. enter screen name and password, then click the box below to "automatically connect to this account on startup." 4. click connect. i usually add my multiple personalities to my buddy list to confirm connection status. plus i always have at least one friend. this feature is included with the basic value meal, no need to super size for $20, unless your ethically inclined to support the man.
  7. http://www.trillian.cc let's you connect to aim, icq, msn, yahoo, and irc, with multiple screeen names, simultaneously. the free version is really free; no spy/adware or advertisements.
  8. i second strange's motion. but i think my vote would go into indie/underground -> including hip hop, rock, and alt. turn off your radio.
  9. ~$150 for processor, ~$50 for memory = ~$200. or you could donate your box to a hungry and poor college student, take the write-off, and go 64bit. if you're interested in this option, i'll give you my shipping info *edit* lunk's price was higher than my 333mhz fsb 3200 ($20bux).
  10. anyone that can sniff plaintext sure knows how to break wep on 802.11b. at that point, unpatched windows exploits and shared resources become a concern. however, even if someone does gain unauthorized access to the network, what then? MOST (read: not all) sensitive data transfers between your bank, a merchant, etc employ a secure communication method with an algorithm much stronger than basic wep. so even if an intruder is listening to the data conversation from inside, they won't be able to make much of it. however, unsecured logins (like here to the boards), plain email, and common day browsing can be observed by an intruder. but really, what threat does this put you at? your grocery club card identifies your shopping habits, so who really cares if your surfing habits may be paid attention to? bottom line: if you don't want a stranger to have the information your sending between point A and B, make sure you see the secure connection icon in your browser of choice. lastly, in terms of personal defense, i like the following buffet: ms antispyware beta 1 spybot search and destroy adaware personal 1.5se avg anti-virus free edition all the above are freeware, and do a superb job of detecting (and prohibiting) spyware, malware, and virii. if your processor clock speed is below 1.6ghz, or you have less than 512mb, you may consider using just antispyware and avg to reduce processor load.
  11. played a little bit on deltamill as a t. there is only one bombsite, right? i still haven't had a first person visual of the site due to the pure ct rompage that round, but... i had fun. i liked the map, i liked the vertical dimension of the house. has anyone noted pure ct awp/scope ownage from the upper levels of the bldg? i haven't had enough exposure to see how bad it gets, but that's my sole concern. other than that, rock on.
  12. uhm, it's happening again (since stats reset). guess strange is really really into that "other" game. lol, thx.
  13. i turned twenty-four last week. (thanks) is it time to start referring to the period prior as "my early twenties." lol. you old timer, hang. go play some shuffleboard.
  14. bane- i've been guilty of having a bad day at work, get yelled at by the girlfriend, the dog ate my yoda action figure, and then go play on gc only to get tk'ed. fact is, the game can be as frustrating at times as it is enjoyable. however, like you've mentioned, gc is a unique gaming community. it's fun, it's clean, and it's usually well admin'ed (and if it's not, the forums never sleep). on top of that, the people that populate the server almost always facilitate that positive experience. some days are bad days. most days aren't. look forward to seeing you around. s.j
  15. yeh, substituting linksys for dlink used to be my signature move. this new dlink has caught my attention, though... DLink wLan for Gaming
  16. if you're willing/planning to relocate, craigslist is a GREAT resource. the default area is san francisco bay area, but notice to the right the list of cities--there are tons of em. find one that you like, then click either Jobs or a particular section (admin/office, internet engineer'g, etc). i've found it better to scan the entire jobs section as most people don't categorize on any standard. http://www.craigslist.org good luck. ps - the gigs section of craigslist (lower right) is always a good resource, too. temporary, but i've had permanent work come out of it. they also have a specific gigs->computer section...
  17. coulda sworn the sony version of the ipod featured radio reception. there website doesn't really market that feature, though (link). i haven't been able to collect enough soda cans to buy an ipod, so i dunno about that either. but when that glorious day finally arrives, i'd like to know the answer to your question also.
  18. had a client with similair problems. resolved it easily by: 1. updating wNIC to latest drivers 2. disabling WEP. 3. disable SSID broadcast. 4. create unique SSID. the problem died after this. but, if it continues/resurfaces: --- 5. update router to latest firmware. might have been dumb luck, but worked for this scenario.
  19. you are the only one. big maps usually mean lots-o-players, which my video card told me he hates.
  20. looking forward to the awards ceremony with fatty @ the compound. should be red carpet and all.
  21. i'm no csi, but i think we have our first suspect. *cough* voodoo *cough*
