  1. May as well add maple syrup to that mix. Somewhere around $60/gallon I think.
  2. Put me down to represent #2. So if I understand this right, we get to take on the boys from #1, while denying them their AWPs? Wooo, those guys are toast!
  3. I echo the headmaster on this one, all you kids get naked! Best line of this entire thread. -lux <{POST_SNAPBACK}> So, we should all strip naked and curse?

    Games?

I don't know if you're into TBS or not, but you might give Alpha Centauri a try (similar to Civilization II/III). That machine should easily be able to run something like Starcraft though.
  5. Try VirtualDub, it should be able to do this. There are filters for brightness/contrast and for rotation. Only problem is that you'll probably need to recompress the video.
  6. You'll need a video capture card to do this, so you can get input from the VCR.
  7. Here's what you need to do: Get DVD Decrypter, or any other ripper you can find. Rip the DVD, preferrably only the scence you need. Get ffmpeg, which is free just like DVD Decrypter. ffmpeg is a command-line tool, so you'll need the documentation. Use ffmpeg to cut the file to the length you want, and compress it to a format playable on the target machine. Your simplest good bet is to format it for VCD, which will be MPEG-1 video and MPEG-1 layer 2 audio. This command should look something like this: ffmpeg -ss (starttime) -t (length) -i (infilename) -target vcd (outfilename) The format for times should be hh:mm:ss.xxx. EDIT: Don't be mad at Zero, I think he's assuming you mean you can't install any software on any machine to get this done. I'm assuming that you have some machine you can prepare the clip on, and it's the target machine that can't have installations done on it. EDIT: Make sure that when you set the start time and length, the start time is relative to the start of the VOB file, not the whole movie. You may need something like VLC to view the VOB if you don't have a DVD player installed on the system.
  8. Your HL2 CD key should still be on your Steam account. As long as you keep using the same account there should be no problem.
  9. C'mon ZeroDamage, XviD surpassed DivX a long time ago, and it's free 365 days a year.
  10. To rip a DVD, you can use DVD Decrypter, which is free. The maker took the site down, but you should be able to find it by Googling for it. This will let you rip DVDs onto your HDD, and let you select particular scenes to do it. The resulting files will be playable on any machine that can decode MPEG-2 files, so if you don't have an MPEG-2 (DVD) decoder you'll need something like VLC to play it. The file you get from DVD Decrypter is VOB (Video Object) which is the same as MPEG-2. If you want to cut the clip down any smaller, you'll need some more complicated tools to do it. You can use VirtualDubMod to get it done, but if you do you'll need to recompress it into an AVI, probably using XviD. Otherwise if you know much about video conversion tools you can do whatever you want with the VOB file.
  11. I think DirectX is in Windows Update.
  12. # 3532 "Elite|Meh." STEAM_0:0:5565779 01:13 59 0 active Need an admin in here. This guy is swearing on mic, dropping N-bombs and F-bombs like crazy. EDIT: Been handled.
  13. Restarting didn't help for me, but it miraculously started working a minute ago. Excuse me for a while...
  14. I just started getting the same message. My guess is that Valve is so overwhelmed with DoD players that people just can't log on to CS:S for a while.
  15. I've come to love VLC far more than any other player I've seen. It handles virtually all video files, including, corrupt and incoplete. For audio I just use Winamp 2, it's still good.
  16. Not everyone wants the TMP, in fact I think only Anonymo does. The AWP is the big bad sniper rifle.
  17. Maybe this has already been said, or maybe it's not a good idea, but it seems like getting a traceroute from people that are having this problem might help us figure out what's going on. Maybe this is regional. I'm in the northeast and I'm not seeing any problems with loss or choke.
  18. I've read that going down from 90 to 81 takes some stress off your graphics card. Presumably this would put more stress on your CPU as a trade-off, but I'm not sure. Anyway, I'd just stick with either 81 or 90. EDIT: From wherever I read to get this info, the versions listed were: 9.0: 90 8.1: 81 8.0: 80 7.0: 70 I have no idea if others work, I've only ever used 9.0 and 8.1 myself.
  19. Just put "-dxlevel ##" into the launch options, where ## is the version you want (e.g. 81 for DX 8.1).
  20. Playing on cs_italy yesterday (in #1 but #1 has no screenies thread going that I see), and saw probably the oddest thing I've ever seen in CS, so I had to take a few shots:
  21. If I've heard right, the stats are being moved to a new server, or are down for some other planned maintenance.
  22. Started playing the other night, and guess who's there... back to his old tricks too by the looks of it.
  23. http://www.gamrs.co/forums/in...showtopic=20581 EDIT: I don't know how you can set the brightness, it might revert to whatever your monitor is at when you start the game.
  24. If anyone's looking for a better way to rip CDs than Windows Media Player, try Exact Audio Copy with LAME. Just download LAME and unzip somewhere onto your HDD, then unzip EAC into a folder somewhere, and when you first run EAC it should find LAME automatically and setup should be pretty simple. From there all you have to do is select tracks and click "copy selected tracks compressed." I'm guessing this will take longer than WMP does, but the upside is it'll sometimes correct scratches on the CD, and for the technically inclined you can configure any encoder you want to be used with EAC, not just LAME or even MP3.
  25. If you've only been playing in #5 then that's certainly just a small slice of CS:S. I haven't played many other online shooters, but I definitely understand what you're saying. If I had to guess, it's a combination of two things: (1) players get more frustrated when they die in CS:S, because they're out for the rest of the round, and (2) players who are dead can't talk back to other players, making it impossible most of the time to compliment the guy that killed you. As a result, usually only the last player to die on a team hears much praise.
