  1. Argh. I never really noticed the bad language, yet I don't know how I missed reading it. Sorry! **Caution: Foul Language (and misleading information)**
  2. Most of the titles and pictures get jumbled up in my brain, but these kind of jumped out at me, for good or bad... Medieval Total War should be really nice. Guild 2: A Castle and a Cow. Huh? Wazz-an-economy-sim?!?!? Ghostwars looks like an interesting idea. I'd like to Rush For Berlin, myself! Hellgate:London is one I've been looking forward to. Vampyre Story! Cute cute cute! Ankh looks interesting too. Crysis looks to make my computer groan with strain... Project Offset looks interesting, if they can pull off the whole medieval FPS thing.
  3. There are all sorts of games I'd like to try, if I had the money and the HDD space: UT 2k4 (I really wanted this one! Rats) F.E.A.R. Sacred Oblivion/Morrowind/Baldur's Gate II... Dungeon Siege II/Diablo II Anyone have a reliable 80 Gig HDD lying about? For sale real cheap?
  4. Thoughts of Oblivion run through my head, but not until it's cheaper... Free Solitaire. DoD and DoD:S CoD Minesweeper Intermediate setting Doom Legacy Duke3D using Jonof's OpenGL port, and the High Definition Pack. I'm running out of room on my 40 Gig HDD, or else I'd also be playing Q3A and Unreal, UT, and UT2k3... Edit: Oh! Also, I occasionally play Final Fantasy VIII still, on my ancient Playstation. The scratched disks are a pain in the prosterior, as is the unreliable function of this ancient console.
  5. That man was truly a wise, wise, man. I hate the memory errors, the 'mysterious disappearing game' crashes, the 'your map differs from the servers" error (which I found was due to the soundcache file, of all things!), the random bugs every update seems to add, and the wildly variable performance hits of each update. Of course, most of this is Source rather than steam, but the whole package stinketh like a day-old dead skunk on a 90° day...
  6. My Yahoo e-mail has always been enough for me. The space was enough for me pre-Gmail, and is REALLY enough for me now that Yahoo has increased their limit in response to gmail. I never use my charter e-mail for any web forms or paper forms, yet the spam-meisters STILL find me somehow...
  7. A tribute to DNFs past Personally, I think the Quake 2 version was truer to the original Duke3D, though the Unreal version looked graphically better...
  8. I never heard of that particular problem, though I used to be plagued by WordPad constantly crashing. And back in Win98 days, Explorer would crash whenever I changed file association options. There are so many things which could cause this, reinstalling IE may or may not solve them all, but it's worth trying.
  9. Link is working now... I think it was just offline or something, a while ago.
  10. I think the Windows burner requires third-party burner drivers, such as supplied by Nero, in order to work. Kind of like their DVD through media player does...
  11. Deepburner has a free edition Command Burner if you're not afraid of that nasty ol' command line. Then there's the CD Burner alpha 2 mentioned above. If you don't mind helping them squash bugs, it's good.
  12. It requires a shockwave mouse addon, which I don't like, but it works. Buggy and with mouse lag, but it works. Das Linkenshtein!
  13. A third-party developer called "Human Head Studios" is working on Prey. The "Native American Mystic/Garage Mechanic" sounds interesting.
  14. ... and saying the same things too... At this point, I'll believe it when the retail box hits me on the head, and even then I won't buy it.
  15. No problem, you just tried to do that during one of Steam's mandatory updates. The servers were swamped.
  16. Well, I deleted the soundcache file and all the files in the "materials\temp\" folder, as well as all files in the "downloads" folder and the database file in the cache folder, and that seems to have done the trick. I was wondering if my intarweb connection was corrupting the download with "premature finishation" or having a conflict with cache/temp files...
  17. That's worked for me before, but this time deleting the bsp and nav files and redownloading resulted in the same error message, as if the fast-download server was offering a different version of the bsp from the one running on the server... I just deleted the cache file as well. We'll see if that did the trick... Otherwise, where can I go to download a guaranteed correct version for self-installation?
  18. On midwest, I'm having a problem with cpl_fire. It insists it's running a different version, despite my letting it download from the server! It downloads the bz2 file, then disconnects, saying that this version of the bsp is different from the server's. HELP!!!
  19. FF8 FTW! I sometimes pop the FF8 disk into my dinosaur Playstation, and just leave it idling after the "Quistis walking away" scene, just so I can have the soothing Balamb Garden themesong running while I do other stuff. I remember the first time I played it through, and got to the end FMVs, AND GOT CALLED AWAY TO DO OTHER THINGS SO I MISSED IT!!! Past the point where the Pause button actually paused things... That was annoying!
  20. Well! I can see who has viruses on their computer from this thread! All too often, folks have collected viruses and trojans that they know nothing about, till they notice a particular pattern of errors or slowdowns. The number of scripts that can run code on your system from IE, no matter how you deal with them, are rather frightening for me, so I use Firefox with the NoScript extension, so that scripts/plugins only work when I give permission for them. I mostly leave AVG running while I browse the web, to keep from picking up the malicious website or plugin blues. For downloads, I just run a scan on the downloaded files. I like AVG for it's e-mail scanning ability. I hear Avast is good too, but I don't have any experience or info on that one.
  21. I heard that this was an extremely early leak, and that the new CPUs won't be out until 2007. Basically, Intel leaked these to add some FUD factor to people thinking of buying AMD's current offerings. Personally, I'll keep buying AMD just to keep them solvent! We have to keep the competition going, to keep Intel humble, so they don't try to net-burst and RAMBUS-ize us again...
  22. How do they expect to keep the cops from following the money trail right to them?
  23. I played the UT2k3 mod version and liked it, even if it did have serious clipping problems that occasionally let me fall through the bottom of the map! This is going to be a bit different from that though, with the addition of vehicles and tanks.
