  1. good idea but we have to make the first post wiki style so we can all edit it ourselves.
  2. sell the 320mb and get the 4850. you'll come out on top for sure.
  3. makes sense. not being able to turn right on red would really hurt the efficiency of our road systems though (not that they're all that efficient in the first place).
  4. what does that change? people will still stop past the line. afaik, it's illegal to stop past the line if you can stop before it safely.
  5. it's one of my biggest pet peeves. NO ONE seems to stop before that line anymore. they just treat red light right turns as yields . i can't count the number of times on one hand where i have to slow down or change lanes in my daily 10 miles of driving due to some ahole who cuts me off. not to mention the several pedestrians i've seen nearly hit or the time i almost got clipped by a taxi on my bike.
  6. link works fine for me... preach, i don't recall the 3870 x2 ever being fast. right now i'm mainly interested to see the performance of a 1gb version of the 4870. i'll likely still go the x2 route as it will be more of an upgrade from my 8800gtx. that said, there really are no games i play which require more than an 8800gtx so it'll likely be a while before i upgrade to this card.
  7. lol, i'd recommend a new power supply as well. those mobo caps were definitely puffed and ready to go. it could be your power delivery system doing the damage.

  9. the 4850 and 8800gt are not really even. they are priced according to performance right now. i'd splurge for the 4850 as it is consistently faster than the 9800gtx and can be found for cheaper. oh and if it's not been made clear enough already, don't bother with sli on a 7600gt. honestly, in less you're playing games at 1920 or above resolution with aa/af on then there is no need for a dual card set up at this time. ya, you can go from 60fps avg to 90 fps avg but your bottom fps will still be the same as most games at this point are limited on the bottom end either by cpu or memory bandwidth/capacity of the vid card.
  10. i'm hijacking this to say i'm home safe and sound. i had a wicked time and can't wait til next year. thanks to everyone that helped put it together and take it apart. it was well worth it. hopefully next year we can get the attendance back up and have even more crazy good times.
  11. while i don't take the inquirer as fact i do take it somewhat seriously. yes, they are often wrong but they are also often right. at the very least it is entertaining reading. yes, charlie seems to have something against nvidia but this time he appears to be right. their stock price should be evidence enough of that. he also makes some very good points re: the voltage bumps on the new steppings and the fact he pointed this out last year gives him a heck of a lot more credibility in my book.
  12. waiting on a 1gb version. my high res gaming requires more than 512mb ram at times.
  13. http://www.theinquirer.net/gb/inquirer/new...dia-g84-g86-bad if any of you guys have laptops or desktops with these chips in them i'd dump them on someone unsuspecting otherwise you're in for a nightmare.
  14. oh my, maybe i should back out now...
  15. wow, another canadian who can't make it. do you and mo work in the same place? i'm sure gonna look stupid sitting by myself.
  16. as i said in my pm, i've got a friend that can probably use it. as long as it's possible to move it next to me. sucks that you can't go. i was lookin forward to the drive.
  17. 4850 is the way to go for sure. unless you can find an 8800gt 512mb for less than $130.
  18. just back up all the bigger gcf files. the rest can be re-downloaded in less than 5 minutes.
  19. have you done any overclocking of the video card?
  20. i've never lol'd at something i read online more than i did when i read this. my gf still doesn't get it but i man i nearly fell off the couch. (i'm at the cottage on the laptop). as far as the webcam broadcast, if there are people that want to watch we can definitely set it up at least while we're on the canadian side of the border. after that i think i might be charged roaming to use the wireless. any suggestions for free software?
  21. not 10x faster but it makes it faster. it's been a hack since at least ff2 if not ff1.
  22. my hl2 has crashed on quit ever since i went to vista. i was just making sure that's not the error he's talking about as it's not a driver that causes that.
