Hi, I have have a problem! lol

When i connect to any gc server i get a ping of 500. I have complained to my isp and get a person who is unable to speak english! All i could make out is trace route and sorry we do not give technical support in that area.

Now in the last few weeks my connection to other servers has become the same. When i click find servers in cs i usually have a list over 1000 with pings under 50. Now i get a list of 25 - 30....... I believe it is my ISP thats the problem but they say my ping is 83 when they checked.

Does anyone know anything about this? I really need help on this!

Sincerely Chamberlain NOOBIST MAXIMUS!

first of all, the trace route thing he was talking about is fairly easy, go to start/run, type cmd. At the dos prompt, type ipconfig, and at the next prompt, type tracert 66.150.107.96, that is for scopeless, or whatever you want , you can do an address like tracert www.google.com. It will show you how many hops you are taking to get to your destination.

The thing to look for is excessively high numbers or *, which are worse.

Umm, i did that and get an error........

I have a pic of what the command window tells me but i don't know how to load a pic :P

After i do the tracert command it tells me this

" 'TRACERT' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file."

you will have to load it on a free website. Try registering to freewebs

Its simple to use, and wont take you long to upload the picture to that site. Then all you do is link this page to your picture.

I had problems similar to yours, it turned out (after spending hours phoning tech support) that a dog had been chewing on a phone wire at the bottom of a telephone pole near my house :(

Alright. i think my nub brain figured it out. Regarding the tracert thing...... i was typing in 69.12.89.6:27015. The :27015 .... lol not supposed to be there..... before i connect to 69.12.89.6 (STOCK) i connect to ibx.ge-0-2-0.cr2.chi1.speakeasy.net [206.223.119.4]. Before this hop everything is under 25 ms....... then connecting to this place for reasons I do not know of, my ping jumps to 300 and then connection to stock it tells me the ping is 275.... umm what should i do now

I know this is my first post period on gamers coalition....so...HELLO ALL :D .

I also had some problems on my other computer with connection speed. Like Acid_Flux mentioned you can go to DSLREPORTS.com and try and test your system there. There is a link that you can type manual (or just click the link)at dslreports that is very handy. The link has a program called Doctor TCP where you can change the values to get a better connection. The link is dslreports.com testing

I also have a program called systems mechanic that with one click can change the values in your computer to allow more packets, making your connection alot faster. Windows default has a limited packet retrievel and release. Kindof like a speed limiter. And it is as simple as changing around 7 numbers.

Both of these worked Amazing on my other computer's connection. My downloads were going at about 100k to 130k. After Doctor TCP and the recommendations of dslreports. I jumped to over 200k for download speed....lovin it.

If your problem isn't internal but the ISP's problem and you have have tried this....sorry I couldn't help. But there has to be a solution.

I promise....it is really easy. Click on that link and download Doctor TCP. Find others on dslreports.com that use the same server you use and live in your area. You can ask them what to set those 7 little numbers to. Or you can take dslreports recommendations after you do a tweak test. You will see a link right next to Dr. TCP for a tweak test.

Trust me....it is VERY EASY! It is just changing all of 3 numbers out of (I believe) 7 numbers using Dr. TCP. As a matter of Fact. I just picked some numbers random and found a better connection. Anything better than Micro$oft is better.

It is easy...just browse that test page link I gave you and you will find tons of hints to a better connection.

The tweak test is at the bottom of the page under JAVE TOOLS. Use those Java Tools...they make things really easy.

I am not that advanced to know what values to tweek.... Could it be that the router don't like me! LoL... Man this sucks, can't play cs with anyone now... I lag way to much!

hi shazz.

Chamber...do you live in an apartment? When I did, there was some idiot running a server and abusing his bandwidth, they had to yank his acct a couple of times. Lagged me for days sometimes.

No I live at home. My computer is the only one using the cable net. We have satellite TV. So no one else is using cable line but me. I do not hide behind a router or firewall and for some reason the hop to 206.223.119.4 speayeasy.net gets lagged up! I have to complain to my isp again and most likely cancel with them.... I only use the cable to play games..... ifmy game lags on multiplayer then no point of cable...... i may switch to satelite internet..... depends on cost...... :P

Just beware that satelite internet is horrid for online gaming. Much worse than what you're experiencing now. Reason: the signal has to go from your house, to the sateliote, back to the groung, then through the 'net to get to the gaming server, then repeat the process in reverse for all incoming data.

Satelite *might* be better than dialup, but will most likely render online gaming unplayable.

Just something to consider...

I would check to see if DSL is available in your area before switching to satelite.

Not that I am aware of. I do not search for porn and do not visit websites often. My computer has no know spyware/viruses. I was just playing one night and my connection shot up to 100 then went back to my normal 43. A few days later it would shoot back up and go back to normal. Then it just shot up to about 500 and stayed there. Cogeco says there is nothing wrong on there end. Which is odd cause I lag over EVERY server I connect to that is not near my city. The only thing I can thing of is giving cogeco the boot!

Just to make sure i didn't changed something, I did a system restore to some day in the beging of March cause I didn't have the problem till around march break. Didn't help... Even to rule out my computer, i hooked my dads system to my cable connection and pinged the same gc server (Dad uses dial-up). It lagged at the same hop.

we had this problem here at our place as well, actually. pings started skyrocketing, seemingly nothing had changed. we were getting lost hops all over the place when checking out tracert, so that's why this may be a different problem than ours was. either way, it's worth a mention. our problem was shoddy cabling. the mediacom guy came and rewired our basement (nothing extraordinary; just new cable that wasn't hanging all over the place :P ) and our problem was solved. I say this is similar to your problem because we had been running fine on the old cable for a few months, and then it just started acting up. something got jostled or cut somewhere I guess. anyway, it's worth having a look at your cabling if you think that may at all be a problem. (also if you've got any cable splitters or anything, that can cause some loss too.)
